Cleaning up and Organizing

I wonder why it is you can look at something and it doesn't bother you and then all of a sudden one day you just have to do something about the big mess you have going on. I keep most of my crafting paints, glues and that sort of stuff in the laundry room, and I also have a cabinet that holds my sewing machine and accessories in there. It seems that as I collect more and more stuff, there is no place to put it. I finally decided it was time to organize this "stuff".

I have two double door cabinets above the washing machine and as I looked at one of those cabinets, I thought I could better use this space and also clean it up at the same time. Do any of your cabinets look like this? lol Kind of open the door and throw it in.

Then the cabinet that sits across from it looked like this. Yikesssss! What a mess. It has the two doors and then below two drawers. I think this needs cleaning up too. I know there is room to put more "stuff" in here. So I got myself really busy, emptied both of them out and cleaned the shelves really good and started to organize a little bit.

Now, this is 100% better. I put all the light bulbs on the top shelf. (I don't know why we have so many.) Then I took the left side of the cabinet and organized all the vac bags, belts & sponges on one shelf, then below it all the cleaning rags. Yippee, I had the right side free. Empty and clean as a whistel. So I decided that the spray paint, stain, tape, brushes and all that sort of stuff could go there very nicely. Much better. Now onto the cupboard across on the other wall.

Wow, I gained so much room I can even store some of my knick knacks and seasonal things. Plus I can put a lot of the candles and other things I use for my tablescapes in here and have them all in one place.

Plenty of room for some seasonal items, candlesticks and candles. These things take up so much room and I previously had them stuck in a cupboard with some of my dishes, now I have room for more dishes. Hurrah!!!!!

On these two shelves I was able to put all the staple guns and staples plus the hot glue gun and glue sticks behind the iron, and then I still had plenty of room for the basket that holds all the small glues, exacto knife and all the little stuff you just have to have. Plus I can find the tape now too.
Below that I still had plenty of space to put my sewing machine and my sewing caddy with room left over for a couple other accessory items I'm not using at the moment. I can really see and find things now and it won't all fall out and hit my toes every time I want something. lol

The two bottom drawers were a mess mixed up with gift bags, ribbons, tissue, wrapping paper, cards and tags. I took it all out and organized all the bags on the bottom of the bottom drawer, the wrapping paper next and then the tissue. Can you believe it all fit so nicely and nothing is crushed. Now I had an empty drawer. What a great place to keep all the ribbon, candle holders, rocks, sea shells and all kinds of little things you need for crafting projects and tablescapes. Yip-skip!!! I love it. Now I can see and find all my "stuff"

Thanks for stopping by and excusing my mess. It does make me feel so good to have something a little more organized. Now on to the kitchen cabinets. Now that will be a much bigger job!!! lol

  2. Great Job Marty! Looks very neat and organized.. course it looked way better than mine to start with lol. We have grown from one junk drawer to two now in my kitchen.. no matter how many times I clean it out .. it always manages to get back in a mess. I don't think we have a day that goes by that the words "Check in the junk drawer" isn't muttered around here.
Good luck with the kitchen cabinets.. Have a great weekend!
    Hugs,
    Debbie

  6. Hi Marty! Good job organizing! My laundry room cabinets look like yours before you organized them. My problem is I cannot reach them so when I have to put something in, I actually have to throw it in and it does not always land where I intend it to. Wanna come and help me organize here too? LOL!....Christine

  10. Marty, I just loved this post! I'm glad to know I'm not the only one - you asked if any of us have cabinets that look like this? Darlin, I've got an entire HOUSE that looks like this (well at least the closets and Cait's old room) I spend an entire day last weekend cleaning out her closet - and I do mean an ENTIRE day. I think DH was ready to send in the marines. Anytime you want to take a little jaunt to Texas and do some organizing, you are welcome (just give me some advance warning so I can clean off the guest bed haha). Hugs, Kat

  13. Great job, Marty! Nothing makes me as happy as a nice, organized cupboard! I have been procrastinating on the old spring cleaning.......(I think I'd better rename it summer cleaning now).......anyway, I have a cupboard I use for over-flow knick knacks....Oh dear, does it need a good straightening up. I'm afraid to open the door for fear china plates or teacups will escape!

    Hugs!

  23. Hey Girlfriend...

Well...look at you!!! Girl, I am so impressed with all of your cleaning and organizing...your shelves look great! You've just been a busy little bee! Okay...my friend, I seen those pretty little shell candle holders in your drawer...I've been working on my shell dishware tablescape and boy, oh boy, I could have used those pretty candle holders! Hehe!!! I had fun looking at all of your goodies...wink!

My friend, if that isn't the most awesome thing...your first china was the pink Norway Rose! I hadn't seen that pattern until that day on ebay. As soon as I seen it, I thought that it would coordinate perfectly with my other china for a different look! You said that your Sis has the green and that you have given your pink china to her...I bet the green and pink look really pretty together!

Thanks so much for stopping by and for leaving me such a sweet note...I just love it when you come for a visit!!!

Have a wonderful weekend, my friend!

  31. Oh yes, some of my cabinets are in complete disarray. I will tidy them up, and over time they will begin to look messy. I will tell myself I'm going to be extra careful to keep them in good shape. But... When I had my kitchen remodeled last year, I had them put big drawers on either side of my stove instead of the doors that were there. I find that drawers are easier for me to keep up with stuff in. I keep my light bulbs and batteries in one. Only way I'll find one when a light goes out!

  33. Yes Marty, I said in my new house there would be no more junky drawers and disorganized cupboards. Well guess what six months later, stuff is falling out of a couple of the office cupboards. You have to kind of hold it in and slam the door really quickly. I need to get it organized before it goes any further! Thanks for the inspiration..
