Sunday Favorites - $28 Bathroom Redo

Thanks to Chari @ Happy To Design for hosting this fun event. It gives us all a chance to see some of the posts we may have missed. Some of you have been blogging for a while and have wonderful posts to share again. Please go by Chari's blog to see a list of all the participants. There are some great "re-runs" that you just don't want to miss. I havn't been posting too long, but this is one I thought I would share again. This was a Met. Monday post I did in February.

Today I would like to show you my bathroom transformation and I would like to offer two apologies. First many of you have already seen this picture, and second I do not have a before picture. However since I think someone somewhere made a mold of this bathroom and gave it to every builder in the country and they just stamped them out by the hundreds or thousands, a picture probably really isn't needed. It's the standard big mirror, cultured marble counter, sink and tub surround with basic cabinetry and the cheapest faucet they could find. I have had my decorating skills challenged with having this bathroom in my last two homes.

With a new home and many projects that need to be done and the fact that my money tree is suffering from extreme drought and frost bite, I really needed to be creative. I started digging for accessories and decided a tropical theme would be in order. So armed with a plan I mixed 3 colors of leftover paint together for the walls, $18 for 3yds. of fabric for the drape, $5 for the bamboo rod, $3 for the tissue box I painted with a bamboo design, and $1 each for the soap box and mirror from the Dollar store. The clock and vase I had and the floral arrangement was made from remnants of several older ones. It may not be a remodel, but for now it will do and I really like the color and tropical feel that it has. Just another example of what we can do using what we have and using our imagination.

Thanks for stopping by, I always enjoy your visits. Hugs, Marty

  2. Hello Girlfriend...

Ohhh...I'm just so thrilled that you joined in with "Sunday Favorites" once again...you're gettin' to be an old timer, Sweetie!!! Hehe!!! You know, I sure do appreciate all of your support that you're giving this new Sunday meme!!! Thank you, my friend!!!

Okay...now on to your fabulous bath redo! I only have one word to say...FABULOUS!!! Girl, you took this "basic builders" bath into the world of unique, interesting, and simply stunning!!! Hehe...I loved that you just mixed a bunch of the paint that you had on hand to come up with the wall color...it's really beautiful! One of my favorite things about your bath is that beautiful black fabric shower curtain...it just makes a beautiful bold design statement...I love it!!! Secondly, I just love the large tropical floral arrangement...it's so pretty! It's the first thing that caught my eye...besides that beautiful curtain! So I read that you used remnants from other arrangements...does this mean that you made the arrangement yourself? What a talented lady you are!!! You just did a fabulous job on this bath redo...it's no longer just a "basic builders" bath...that's for sure!!! This was a great post to share once again...I loved it!!!

Just want to thank you for all of your sweet compliments on my master bedroom and bath...you're always so sweet and an encouragement!!!

You have a wonderful Mother's Day, Sweetie!!!
    love ya,

  22. Marty, your bathroom looks wonderful. I love that custom curtain that is such a wonderful idea. Especially since shower curtains are so expensive these days!! That flower arrangement is beautiful, and I love the vase. The paint color is so nice; it is so awesome that you recycled other paints to get that color. You designed such a lovely bathroom.

    Happy Mother’s Day, Nicole

  38. Your bathroom looks wonderful, Marty. Actually, better than wonderful. And...you did it on a small budget which really is the best part for me. Isn't it great when you can use many things you already have and make them work in a whole new way? The towels looked really interesting but the photo would not enlarge enough for me to get a closer look.
    Lovely..the whole thing!

  43. Hi Marty,
Glad I could make you laugh today! But really, it IS that easy to paint a simple mural....you just have to give yourself a license to fail at first....I'm not that great of a painter! I was really awful when I started several years ago.....just failed a lot getting LOTS of practice! I love your bathroom....sorry I missed this post. Really liked it the first time around and just as much now again ...the best thing is that you didn't have to spend much at all! My favorite is the shower curtain, floral arrangement and the way you have the towels worked into the design on the opposite wall....well, pretty much how you have all of it decorated! LOL! Luanne

  59. Marty,
Count me in, I have this same builder bathroom they must have cloned a bunch of them. I am currently working a bit of magic on mine within my budget so appreciate this post. I love the bamboo rod and the drape hanging from it. Did you make it? It is really sharp. The way you arranged the towels reflected in the mirror looks super and the floral on the counter breaks up the space nicely. ~Cathy~
