Tablescape Thurs. - Polishing Up The Silver

Hurray, it's time for one of my favorite meme's, and thanks again to Susan @ Between Naps On The Porch for hosting Tablescape Thursdays. Be sure to visit her and see her lovely tablescape and all the other participants.

I've set the table for a very small dinner party. I thought I would use some of my silver for this table.

I've used all white with the only color being the silver and the dark navy napkins.

I found the candlesticks at GW and they are perfect with the silver pieces that I'm using.

I've used my silver water pitcher to hold the flowers and the candle light just makes them sparkle.

A look at the entire table.

The little mirrored tealight holders came from the Dollar Tree and create some extra sparkle on the table. Love the way the cut and etched crystal picks up all the light.

A view from above.

We'll be serving Sparkling Cider, compliments of Laura from the Az. Blogger lunch. I placed it in a crystal wine saucer and placed a silver stopper to use after it is opened.

Love this silver butter buttler and the salt and peppers. They are a couple of my very first pieces.

My silver coffee service. I've set the table with cups and saucer so we can have coffee with dinner since the weather has cooled down.

Silver gravy boat. This will hold the Aujus to go with the Prime Rib.

Two different crystal patterns, both are very old, however I don't know the pattern of either one.

Navy blue napkin with the white Gibson dishes from Big Lots and silver chargers that I found at the GW. The lace tablecloth is one that I've had forever.

Just a little candle light.

This just shows that you can set a pretty table without a lot of expense. I know a lot of people are getting rid of their silver and I see it all the time at GW. I have had all of mine for many, many years and I still love it, however there are some fabulous buys out there if you are in the market. If you like silver, just pick up a few pieces and add them to a simple table and watch how it changes everything.
Thanks so much for stopping by, I always look forward to your visits.

  6. The lace and the silver complement eachother so well, Marty. Your table looks so pretty. I bet you spent more than a few hours polishing all those pieces! I have never seen a butter butler before- it's lovely. I do not own a set of silverware, I keep looking at estate sales for something I'd like, but haven't found anything yet. When we got married, I never even gave it a thought. But then, I was a child bride still in college. Who thought about frou frou stuff back then? Not me!
    hugs, Sue

  9. Beautiful! I love silver. I just hate to polish it. I need to polish my coffee/tea set before Thanksgiving. It was OK to leave it tarnished & out on my china hutch for Halloween, but it deserves a good polish for Thanksgiving & Christmas. Maybe I can get my hubby to do it. All of my silver items came from various thrift stores. I love getting them for a steal.

  13. You know, when I moved out west from Chicago, I got criticized a lot for using my china and silver. It's so laid back in the west, my friends would say! But I never listened and never minded the extra time to polish my silver. So you can imagine how much I appreciate your blog (and your friendship!) I am so at home here at your lovely place! I love your style, girl.

This is one of the prettiest tables I have seen since starting to follow Tablescapes. The silver and white look spectacular together!! What a wonderful collection you have! I like how you added the blue napkin for contrast. You really have an eye for color! All of the details are just perfect. The candlelight really does look magical reflecting off your pieces.

Thanks for the tips on collecting silver. I have a few things, in fact, I have been doing a lot of polishing silverware this week, just a little at a time. ;-)

Have a wonderful evening, my friend.

  22. Beautiful! You did a great job as usual - thanks for sharing your talents. What time is dinner? :) I have only one thing against silver - it has to be polished. I have seen where many are using the beautiful cut glass ashtrays (that are no longer used for their original purpose) as wine bottle coasters.

  24. I think this is one of my favorite tables. That's because it looks like a table my mother would always set. However, we never had a centerpiece, because we served family style and all the food took up all the space on the table. lol

I like how you used the navy napkins as the accent color. Very pretty.

  39. I got several silver pieces for wedding gifts and I never used them. I gave them to my mom and she has them in Florida with all of her silver. Some of it got so tarnished I doubt I could save it. I've never liked it...until tablescaping. Now, I wish I still had it here. I think your table looks beautiful.

I always love all your beautiful tables and charming vignettes. However, I have to say this is my very favorite to date! Silver by candlelight creates a richness and romance that nothing else can equal. The little mirrored tea light holders add even more sparkle. I can't believe you found them at Dollar Tree.

Achieving a high end look at thrift store prices is truly great fun, isn't it? I'll venture to say you've inspired a lot of readers to polish their silver ... or go shopping for some!
