Playing with Fabric

With my newly acquired new to me white sofa, the wheels have been turning thinking about different color schemes that I could use that didn't work before with the tan sofa. This is the current look with the blue and gold.

I have a lot of fabrics left from projects in previous houses that didn't work and so I pulled a few pieces out and started playing. This is one idea that might work.

This one could be fun.

This is another possibility. Maybe add some more lime green to the room.

See this pillow that I am currently using, well a designer friend of mine taught me a trick - - - - -

Do the back of the pillow differently. Then you can just turn it around for a totally different look. Here is the blue check with the toile. This could be fun too.

Changing color schemes always takes me a while to warm up to, so playing with fabrics just seems like a good way to get a feel for something new. So what do you think? Which one do you think would be the most fun, or should I look for different fabrics altogether?

  1. I like the brown scheme (but I'm kind of a blah kinds gal) but I think the colorful pillows and accents are perfect for a spring/summer look. I wish I could say I do that in my neutral scheme, but I don't! Those people are really great.

  2. That is what is nice about a big piece being neutral, you can put anything with it. Love the textured fabric on your sofa. I think I like the brown tones with it the best, but all look good.

  9. Fun, fun, fun! I think the first choice (the golds and browns) will be wonderful for fall and winter. For summer, I'd probably go with the blue and white. I know you have lots of fun blue and white china pieces, too. But the great thing about a white sofa is that you can't go wrong! These all look good!

  11. Wow I agree they each give such a different look. I would change them with the seasons. I liked the brown because it does give a warm feeling. But the blue is so Summer and a french feel. Enjoy they all :-)

  12. I have a "thing" about throw pillows so I vote for ALL of them, lol. They are all wonderful and you can just switch them frequently to suit your mood.

  13. Love those first brown/tan fabrics you pulled out {with that tassel trim}, Marty! I'm with your friend, when I make my own pillows, or even buy them, I do the two different sides, too. You definitely get more bang for your buck that way and you can turn them around with the seasons.

  15. Hi Marty, I love the blue and gold look you already have, but I like the first picture you showed with the browns, too! The nice thing is you can do whatever look you want and change if from season to season or as your mood changes. I have pillows in my family room that have two different materials as well. It's great to be able to use the same pillow for two looks. Have a wonderful day, can't wait to see what you decide, I know it will be beautiful!

  17. You do have so much fun with your decorating Marty...and having fun is what it's all about. They are all pretty fabrics and will all work well with your sofa. However, you are the one that has to live with it day in and day out, so I will leave the choice up to you.
Just keep on playing till your heart says "right this is the one"!

  18. How fun Marty. I love the first look, it's a classic. But I'm going out on a limb here and say that I love the addition of the blue check and striped pillow. I love lime green, it's so fresh and fun for summer. But I really like the final shot too. You have so many great accessories that you should be able to use all of these for different seasons. Have fun playing! Hugs, Kat

  31. I love all the pillows so much it's hard to choose, but that being said, I'm a sucker for blue and yellow and toile, so that would be my first pick! Although, I love all the other colors too. I like the suggestion made to use the blue and yellow and white for summer and the browns and golds for fall and winter!
