Adding Beadboard - Love The Change

I love the look of the beautiful beadboard I see everyone using all over Blogland, so I just had to get in on the act.

This is how our Entertainment center looks. The backs of the bookcases are just a dark wood and not very exciting. I really wanted them to have a little more class.

I see everyone using beadboard wallpaper, however DH wasn't convinced it looked real, so I bought a sheet of thin backed beadboard from Lowe's and got busy making all the necessary cuts.

Good grief, I had no idea I had that much stuffed into those bookcases. Time to edit.

I had to use two pieces in the backs because of the light that is behind the top shelf. Electrical cords and all that stuff that can't be moved. First piece fitted.

Both pieces in and held in place with dots of 5 minute epoxy in each corner.

I cut 1/2 inch off the back of the middle shelf so it would allow a little light to shine down to the bottom. Previously it was fitted close to the back panel. A little touch up with stain and it will be perfect and I love that the light does shine down to the bottom now.

All done and painted the same cream as the walls. I really love how it makes the bookcases look so much brighter.

Now the fun part to fill them back up again. Stop back by for Table Top Tuesday and I'll show you how they look.

  43. Oh Marty! I was so into looking at your makeover..and wondering how you took on such a project..how good you always do things...and then I saw it!!!!
I saw the title of the show you were watching on television...and smiled all over myself. It was on and your probably were not even watching it... :):)
The show that happened to be on when you took the pictures "Pitchmen" on the Discovery channel...we were watching it also! My grandson was in the credits! He was one of the ones that edited the film, Brock Carter. He is in the film industry and does editing. This was his first TV project...
He does documentaries...and now is into film editing.
Anyway...our entire family was watching..we are so proud of his progress...just to see his name in the credits.

Now I am headed back to take another look at your project! :)
Love and hugs to you, Marty.

Sorry I haven't participated in your Tues. Vignettes too much this summer but I've been cooking & sewing instead. For sure, I'll be doing some Fall decorating. :-) I can't wait for it to arrive this year. What an awful hot summer!!!

  46. Marty, this project turned out beautifully!

In the event you have other beadboard projects you'd like to do in the future, not all beadboard wallpaper is created equal and your hubby is right to be skeptical. My hubby bought (and I quickly returned) some from Lowe's that was AWFUL. However, the Graham & Brown Super Fresco beadboard wallpaper from the Home Depot website REALLY DOES look like beadboard. I've used it on several projects and cannot tell you how many people have been completely fooled by it. They just couldn't believe it wasn't the real thing. One person who was fooled was a very experienced handyman!

Whenever I empty my 3 piece wall unit to move it to the new "house in Hooterville," I'm going to apply the beadboard wallpaper to the backs before I put everything back together. I'm probably going to also use it on the backsplash area in the kitchen. It's really FABULOUS stuff. Easy and fun to work with too.

  48. Love this look but I think I will have to stick with the wallpaper as my top is a "S" shaped curve. Argh to cut that would be a nightmare. :)
