Is Your Kitchen Sink A Workhorse

In this house we don't have a utility sink in the laundry room, so the kitchen sink is always the place where all the dirty work takes place.  Everytime my DH wants to wash up from the garage or the yard, he uses the kitchen sink.  He hates to use paper towels to dry his hands, so he kept asking for a towel or else I caught him using my tea towel.  Not good.

We do have a soap dispenser that is always filled with moisturizingt antibacterial soap that made clean up easy.  But the towel issue was a problem.

This was my solution.  When we installed the door hardware, instead of placing it on the sides of the cabinets doors, I placed it across the top of the doors.  Now I can hang two hand towels on them and they are super handy for all those messy cleanups.

My tea towel is hanging on the inside of the door, so now he can't grab that for his dirty hands.  Problem solved.

If you have the same problem, this is a great solution and it keeps everyone happy.

Thanks so much for stopping by, I always look forward to your visits.

  1. That is a great solution Marty! I have a laundry room sink but my hubby STILL picks the kitchen sink! But first things first I'm still working on that little toilet seat up issue *sighs* Rome was not built in a day lol! Vanna

  6. Great solution Marty. My hubby has his own sink - my problem is he doesn't rinse off his hands properly before grabbing the towel, so after one use it's too grubby to leave out! You'd think I'd be used to it after 33 years....

  8. Well that's just pure genius to hang the cabinet hardware horizontally instead of the way intended.
I think I need to do that. It works both ways. Perfect!
    Thanks!

  11. Hanging the handles horizontally is indeed an fabulous idea! Now if I could get my hubby to wash his hands BEFORE using the towels! I use more stain removers on kitchen towels than on clothing. Yep, 31+ years ago I started saying "Didn't your mother teach you to wash your hands first?" Obviously, since we're still happy together it's not a deal breaker and I am a reeaalllly good stain remover. :-)

  12. Oh Marty, that's a great idea! We have the same problem here at my house. I keep finding stains on all my cute little dish towels (hubby). I really like the hardware you chose for the sink. They look elegant.

  13. Great idea! We installed a pull out towel rack under the sink. We do have to open the cabinet to get it, but it keeps hidden that way.

  18. Marty, that is a great idea. And yes I have problems with my husband using my good towels for his greasy hands. I even bought him a pump dispenser for the heavy duty soap that mechanics use, but then he gets the towels all gritty with that stuff instead of all greasy. I will have to try this.

  19. MEN what are we going to do with them Marty. We have a large slop sink in our laundry room and I keep a soap dispenser on it and paper towels hang right above it, but my dear hubby still walks thru the house and uses the kitchen sink!! I don't get it! Love your idea of using the cabinet hardware to hang your kitchen towels, problem solved! Martina

  20. I would love to do that but I have a lab that loves a tea towel, yep she takes them off of the counter and chews them up! And you think you got troubles with the hubby!

  21. That's a really good idea Marty. I think most men are the same. They just grab whatever comes to hand and won't walk one minute to get to the right towel. Bless them!
