Wow, I Needed To Edit.

Do you ever take a picture and then see how bad something looks and you didn't even notice.  Thaat's how I felt after I looked at this picture of the kitchen I showed you yesterday.  I love my two new cows and I was so focused on them, I didn't see the whole kitchen.  I had so much stuff piled all over the counters, you couldn't really see anything.  Time to edit big time.

This is so much better don't you think.

Left side of the range.  Nice and simple

The right side of the range and the corner.

My butter platter holding my salt-pepper grinders, oil and parsley/garlic mix.

I tried to really simplify this corner.  Just a few fun things.

The far corner is really simplified also.  I brought in a couple of snips of flowers off an Ixora bush.  That's about all that's blooming in this heat, but I love the color.   I think the entire kitchen looks so much better, don't you.

A couple of things made their way to the breakfast table and all the rest was put away for a while.

Thank you to everyone for all the gracious Birthday wishes.  I had a fabulous one.

  1. Happy belated birthday, Marty. May the coming year be a wonderful one for you. Hey, are those donuts real?

  2. Looks great Marty and I love your cows!

I sometimes take quick pics when I am putting together a post, just to see how things look. I feel I can see things better and get a better perspective by doing this. If it needs editing I do that before finishing my post.

  3. You are my vignette inspiration Marty, that's how I came up with my kitchen cloche vignette, almost copying you! I love this, again. Have a nice weekend. Love, FABBY

  4. I do the same thing, Marty. It looks great. I love the way you decorate. Kathi

  5. It really looks great Marty, I'm having the same situation, only in reverse. :0
My house is small so I normally don't have a lot of things on display. I notice when I take photos that there is a lot of bare space and then I have to add more things to make the photo better. Maybe I need to learn to crop the photos more. LOL
I guess it all boils down to how much 'stuff' you're comfortable with on counter tops, tables, etc.
Your home always looks great however you do it, but I DO like how you edited.
Sorry, I'm rambling, have a great weekend.

    Hugs,
    Babs

  7. Marty, Happy Birthday. You look fabulous darling in your picture. Hope you had a great day. I'm facing the big 60 in December can you hear me crying? Thank you for checking out my blog site and commenting on my new/old metal urn. Can you believe I only paid 2dollars for it. You said that you liked my frenchy looking clock, I'm thinking of painting it off white and distressing it a bit what do you think? I would love any suggestions on it. Decor. Lady

  8. That's the greatest thing about blogging -- we take a picture to post, look at it and think "OMG" -- and so we can change it -- edit or add more stuff -- and sometimes I change things, then look at an old picture and think -- "why did I do that?" That looked pretty good before!!! LOL!!!

I do like what you did -- I do like your simplier countertops.

And the upside -- there is less stuff to dust!!!!

I'm editing as well -- and I'm trying to take ONE thing (read furniture) out of each room. I have way too much stuff!

  11. I soooo know what you mean! But I'm a "stuff" girl... I love my "stuff"! :) AND your "stuff" LOL and her "stuff" LOL!
I do like the edit though. I can see more of your pretties. Love all the flowers! Especially that sweet sunflower! I have NOTHING in my garden right now either. The roses are blooming but they are tiny and faded. yuck! I'm so glad that you joined in!! :) Hope you have wonderful weekend!

  12. It is so easy to over load when we all love and adore so many pretty and wonderful things. That's why I would love to have several homes. but not love to take care of them. Have a great day. Richard at My Old Historic House.

  13. Marty, I thought it looked great before the edit! Though I can see, after the edit, the pic was easier on the eyes!

  14. You know me Marty, I am the editing queen. When I take photos I always think it looks too empty, but I can not live with a lot of stuff around me. My mantra is Big is better less is more. I know that is not for everyone, but I like decor to have a purpose and for my own personal taste I get nervous if my counters have too much stuff on them. I know it is a quirk of mine. I think those that have the more is more philosophy seem to always have a warm and inviting home. I feel it is very important to decorate your own home in the manner that you love. I have a question on my post today asking what is timeless and classic. Would love to read your opinion. Love you,Kathysue

  15. Great editing Marty. And yes, I do that all the time after taking pics, it is a good time to do an overview of the room. I keep very few items on my top cabinets. I used to have them packed with tea pots, til I saw all the dust collecting.

  17. Hi Marty,
Great editing job. However, I am a wee bit biased because it did not look bad in the first place, but I love everything that you do.

  21. It all looks great! I find editing so hard because I love so many things. It's hard to choose what to feature. And it changes fast!

    ReplyDelete
  22. The editing is fresher, but all your stuff is so PRETTY anyway! You could have just left it. . . my own counters have so much STUFF on them I have to move things to work, but it's actually not even decorative stuff. STORAGE issues galore here!
Belated happy birthday. Hope it's a fun weekend!

  23. Everything looks great Marty. I don't know what it is, but I also find that the camera's "eye" sees things that my own eyes don't. Weird.

  24. It all looks great. I like stuff... but I am sure it is easeir to clean around with less.

I always like to visit your house, especially the kitchen. What time is lunch?

  25. I do the same thing Marty. I see my home through a different eye when I view my photographs. I thought it looked lovely before, and I know how fun it is to have things we love around us, but it look's lovely afterwards too! Maybe you can rotate those items. Either way your kitchen is lovely!

  26. Bonjour Marty,
Your house is beautiful. I like all your "mises-en-scène".
Bravo pour toutes ces jolies choses !

  27. LOL! I've done that too! Looked good to me before and looks good after. Now in all of your decluttering, I hope you didn't get rid of any Roos or Chicks that want to come to my party.

  29. Hi Marty, First-Happy Birthday, may your year be filled with all that brings you joy.
Now, if you think your counters are too full before then I think you need new glasses-just kidding but truly your kitchen is so beautiful I don't think anyone would notice. Love the new cows but I'll swap kitchens any day.
    Hugs, Noreen

  30. I know what you mean! Sometimes, I just have to breathe (find room on the counter to cook). Everything looks great. You know what they say LESS is better! Let's the eye rest some. HA! Have a great weekend & hate I missed the birthday. Happy late Birthday.

  34. Isn't is funny how things can accumulate on the kitchen counter. It always makes me feel better to edit and give everything a thorough cleaning.

    Have a great weekend Marty!

  35. Marty,
I've been trying to do the same thing here On Crooked Creek. After nine years, I'm finally changing things on the kitchen counters. I do take pictures...this gives me a real good visual from the camera lens that I don't always see with my naked eye. Your counters look lovely!!! Although, if you're still in the mood for editing...I'll help get rid of those donuts! HA!
    Fondly,
    Pat

  36. Marty, I always see your comments on Kathysue's blog & have been meaning to check your blog out for awhile & today I finally did! I've been browsing around your home tour. Your style is a lot different from mine, but I really like the way you have grouped decorative items together. This is something I struggle with so it is helpful to see how others have done it successfully. That is so true about taking a picture of something & then realizing it doesn't look right! I think we just get used to things in our house and forget to edit down. Have a great weekend!

  41. Happy belated birthday.

Photograpy is really a help in interior and exterior design, somehow it allows you to see things in a different way. But you have so many adorable things that is must be so hard to choose! I think that your kitchen looks lovely.(-:

  42. Looks great Marty! It does look better. Having a few less things on the counter makes each vignette seem more special!

  43. To me, this is one of the most amazing things about blogging! I take a picture and I swear I NEVER saw what I see in the picture and I think "what the heck?????" So, I edit!!! I also get in CLEANING and THROWING out moods. I think it is because my Mom never threw out a thing:) Your kitchen does look so nice now!!!! Thanks for your honesty. XO, Pinky

  45. Ha ha! This is a very timely post. I am a night owl. The other night (morning) I decided to do a vignette on my kitchen counter. I really liked it. The next morning it SCARED my daughter as the rooster looked a bit too real. My husband's comment was "I thought we were striving for more counter space." Oh, well. I do so enjoy all your things. I guess mine cannot be on the kitchen counter.

  46. I think you have a beautiful kitchen in both photos. Mine does not look 1/2 as good as either photo. I think I have only visited your Blog once or twice and will have to come back more often and get some great decorating ideas. My kitchen is very boring. Thanks for sharing.

  47. I love the way it looks, Marty, no matter what you do! I have a problem with too much "stuff" myself. You did a great job of editing! Photos do help me see my own home through different eyes, too. Happy weekend!...hugs...Debbie

  48. Hi Marty! I am a little late in sending birthday wishes. Love the cow painting! I am guilty of too much. It happens gradually and then - you notice. You did a great job of simplifying and yet still having warmth and character. I love the tray with the French writing on it. It seems to me that you might have done a post on that - LOVE it!!! Linda

  52. Hi Marty,
Happy belated birthday to you. You counters look beautiful as always. My counters tend to get a bit cluttered at times. It's always nice to edit for a fresh new look! Pictures really help you to see what's going on.
