80th Table Top Tuesday

Wow, we're at #80.  That is amazing.  Thank you guys so much for all the wonderful links each week.  You always inspire me.

Since I have been reading tons of decorating books looking for inspiration to change things up a bit, I have seen so many vignettes that create a really cute reading corner.  So I thought I would add to the one I started in the livingroom.

While I love seeing all the painted furniture in everyone's homes, I have to admit that my true love is my dark wood furniture.  This is one of my favorite pieces.  I bought this little chest in 1970 at the Design Mart in LA.  It is an import from England and I instantly fell in love with all the fabulous detail.

Even the sides and back of this piece have gorgeous detail.

Even with the love of dark wood, sometimes you want something to lighten a piece up a bit.

I used a cream silk scarf with fringe to give this vignette a little brightness.

Then I just pulled together some things from around the house that had an old world feel to me and made me think "library".

When I think "library", I also think about travel and books that show us far away places.  This elephant box makes me think of far off adventures.

My leather Huckleberry Finn reminds me of adventure too, and the horn magnifying glass adds to the adventure.

A small bust in case I read about a little history.

Of course some Classics are always great to read.

All in all just a really fun vignette.

Remember when I stacked a bunch of Design books on the end table and on the floor.

Now I think the chest continues the reading nook theme.

Is there a spot in your home where you can create a special place to sit and read.  Maybe just a small quiet little corner like mine.

Be sure to link up below, I can't wait to see all of your vignettes.

Also, if you want to see more of what I am up to, just like me on FB.  You'll find some different posts there.

  4. Your cabinet is gorgeous, Marty. Such lovely detail in your reading nook.

Hoping I meet the criteria as I concentrated more on the orchid than I did on the table.

  41. Wow Marty...I LOVE that reading nook. I know I say it every time, but your home is sooo gorgeous! I had to laugh though, when you mentioned about not painting furniture...I just spent all day today painting my dining room table and a mantle that my hubby and his friends made today!! {lol} Actually to tell you the truth I think I like a little of both, and if I could find a beautiful piece in the varnished wood, I wouldn't paint it either! Hope you had a wonderful holiday weekend,
    Jessica

  42. When something is quality like your wooden chest, I believe it transcends current decorating trends like painted furniture fad. Don't you think all this light/white decor stuff we're seeing everywhere needs a little darkness to ground the vignette? Your reading nook is pretty and practicl.

  43. What a warm, cosy nook. I could just curl up there and lose myself for hours in a good book. But back to reality... I am a new blogger and I really appreciate the chance to join your linky party. Thank you:)

  45. Marty, my ♥ stopped when I read you wanted to "lighten up" that gorgeous piece of furniture!! I thought you were going to paint it white like so many do. THANK GOODNESS, you only added the pretty scarf!!! Whew!

It makes for a beautiful little reading nook with all your wonderful accessories. I wish I changed my tabletops more often, like you do, so I could join in. I'm kinda boring & stuck in my ways, I guess. You inspire me with every post & I LOVE looking at everyone's linked posts.
Sorry that I have nothing to join in with today, although I could put my peach pie in, 'cus its ON a TABLE top! LOL

  52. Well, Marty. Somehow it slipped past me the YOU are Table Top Tuesday. I've not linked up to your party because in my mind...I haven't done any table tops worth sharing. But I'm your newest follower (finally) and will certainly visit here often for inspiration. What a beautiful blog! You are wonderful! And your reading nook looks beautiful. I think you are the go-to person for vignettes.

  53. Hi, Marty. I love vignettes too--they're so fun to create. And I love the way you created a theme with it--what a good idea! Rather than just pretty things grouped by color, or other common threads, yours was based on the idea of adventure--very clever! Your corner looks lovely. Cup of tea while you're enjoying it? Oh, and I forgot to mention--your cabinet is beautiful too.
