Welcome to the 81st Table Top Tuesday. I am loving all the wonderful ideas you are all coming up with for fall decorating. I can't wait to see more.
Also Debbie @ Debbiedoo's Blogging and Blabbing is having another fun Magazine copy cat party on Wednesday, so of course I wanted to play at her party too.
This is not a magazine, but it is one of my favorite design books and so I thought I would find something here to copy.
I have had several ask me for a tutorial on how to put a vignette together. Well, I am no expert at all, I just look at something like the lovely vignette in the above picture and then figure out what I have that is similar. Not exactly like the picture, but similar. They used a floral arrangement elevated on a stand, a lovely picture on an easel, a fabulous clock, a great book and some crystal. They placed it all on a dark table with a lovely white scarf.
My version is not at all a true copy, however I used similar elements to create a similar vignette.
First I used colors that went with my home, not the purple in the inspiration pic.
I used an ornate stand to elevate the floral arrangement like theirs.
I used an easel to display a cow picture instead of a floral.
A silver anniversary clock gives the same feeling as their more ornate one.
A leather bound book has the same feeling.
I used a small silver sword since I didn't have a crystal magnifying glass. The silver sword helps to tie in the silver clock.
I used a white silk scarf with fringe and placed it similar to the way they have theirs.
Then a couple of pieces of cut glass to similate the crystal they used.
Not a copy, but a similar look. So when you look at the magazines or something you see in someone's blog that you love. Think of ways that you can create a similar vignette that fits the style of your home. For even more tips on how to do different vignettes, follow me on FB.
I am joining Debbie's Magazine copy cat party. and
Kim's Wow Us Wednesday

ReplyDeleteI like your copy too! I do the same thing and try to find very similar pieces at our antique mall when I really like a picture from Houzz or a design site or magazine. It is fun!

Hello Marty,
ReplyDeleteYou do what I do, taking inspiration from a picture or an idea that comes into my head. Your vignette today is very attractive. I'm afraid most of my posts for your linky party are centered around tea but one of these days, I will share a real vignette. Thanks for hosting.
Blessings,
Sandi
I think you did an awesome job...so very pretty!
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Linda
Marty~ Love your vignette! All your accessories you chose evoke a similar feeling as your design book but you made it your own~
ReplyDeleteYAY! Funny too Marty because mine is NOT going to be exact, which is fine with me, I do want it to be your own special twist with the same elements! Yours is gorgeous! Thanks for hosting your party as always! See you Wednesday.
ReplyDeleteHi Marty...
ReplyDeleteWhat fun! I will have to join Debbie and her "Copy Cat" party sometime! Marty, your vignette is just gorgeous! It really does look very similar to the photo on the decorating book! Love how you put all of these beautiful elements together. You know, when I first seen your pretty vignette...my thought was...that your vignette would make a gorgeous still life oil painting! Wished I was artistic that way...I would paint your beautiful vignette, my friend!
I have "The Art of Accessorizing" as well...it's one of my favorite decorating books! Well dear friend, thank you so much for sharing your beautiful vignette...I sooo enjoyed it! And...thank you for hosting another week of TTT!

ReplyDeleteMarty, you "got" it as my kiddo would say smartly. I really think you need no inspiration and you could write a book especially about cloches. hugs♥olive

ReplyDeleteHi Marty! I have that book too and just love it! You did a wonderful job on your copy cat! The picture on the cover of that book is why I bought it! Thanks for hosting the fun party.
ReplyDeleteBe a sweetie,
Shelia ;)
That's amazing, Marty! Your vignette is both similar and entirely different from the model. But gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteHI Marty! How are you doing? Love what you did...I saw over at Shelia,s she had copied something you had done...but scrunching up a scarf or table runner...I thought to myself I sure like that! Have a lovely day!

Debbie
Yes, your copy is beautiful! What a fun idea! I will have to check out the party! Thank you for hosting! Christie
ReplyDeleteI actually think your version is prettier. Its less cluttered and more crisp in design. And best of all, its the perfect expression of Fall. Perfect! Hope you are well, my friend. Hugs, barb
ReplyDeleteHi Marty ~ I love the cover of your book and you do a very good job of accessorizing too. Thanks for hosting.

A
great post...and thx as always for hosting a fun link up..so many wonderful things offered by talented people.
ReplyDeleteI think that your version of the inspiration setting is just wonderful. Yes, I certainly do see things that try to emulate...as they say, "originality is nothing more than judicious immitation". Have a great day!
ReplyDeleteLove inspiration from wherever I can get it!! Like from you. Had trouble leaving a title on my link. anyone else?
ReplyDeleteyou got all the talent in this area....You astound me over and over....Have a good week
ReplyDeleteYou did a good job of taking something and translating it into yours! I, too, often do that when I look at a magazine or decorating book. The pictures and mirrors over our bed came from an issue of Victoria -- it's been that way for a long time and I still love it!
ReplyDeleteAlways inspirational to visit your blog! Love your ideas and creations! Have a great week :)
ReplyDeleteshawn
The book looks so interesting. Your take on the cover is perfect.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Kathy
Marty, I just linked up my sister's post to your party. I am still teaching her the ropes. No, how it is when this is all new. Thanks for hosting.
ReplyDeleteWell, the cover of the book just took my breath away. I really need that book! However, your's is just as gorgeous! What a fantastic job you did...so very talented!
ReplyDeleteYou did a fabulous job, Marty! And, clearly, you don't give yourself enough credit ... you have a gift for doing vignettes ... not everyone can imitate what they see in a magazine, book, etc. ... you're so talented! Thanks for hosting ... happy to be able to play this week!
ReplyDeleteLovely Marty! I had no table tops to link up this week but wanted to say hi.
ReplyDeleteI love your adaptation. Very pretty vignette and your instructions were great! Thank you.
ReplyDeleteBlessings, Audrey
Marty,

"The Art of Accessorizing" is a wonderful book. I found it on Amazon and have been glad that I bought it.
ReplyDeleteYour idea of recreating the "look" is great. I hope you'll do some of the other tabletops shown in the book. We love your wonderful advice.
Love how you were able to duplicate that look but using your own personal objects. So pretty!

ReplyDeleteCan I say that I like yours better than the one on the cover!
ReplyDeleteI do that all the time too, look at a picture and then try to immitate it. Always ends up looking very different, but the inspiration got me going.
