Projects on the To-Do List for the New Year

Do you have a to-do list for the new year?  I have a couple of things that I really want to get done this year.  Some I may have to save up for, others just find the time to get it done.

#1 on my wish and project list is to replace the carpet in the living and familyrooms.  I am drooling over this.
Bellawood Maple Hardwood Floors.  Photo courtesy of Lumber Liquidators.com.  Now this is a save up for project, but definitely on the wish list for this year.

#2  Redo the Hall Bathroom.  I have a standard builder grade nothing special bland bathroom.  Vanity, cultured marble top and sink, plain faucet and the standard square slab mirror.  I am dreaming of new paint, fixtures, vanity mirror and I totally love this wall college.  This picture I borrowed from the header of The Shabby Chick.  If you aren't familiar with her blog, be sure to visit, you will love her style.

#3 is to redo the Guest Bedroom.  This has been on the to-do list for over a year, time to get it done.  I am going to do a Hunt Theme.  I already have the painting, riding hat and boots, and the paisley fabric bedspread.  I just need the houndstooth fabric for some accents and a drapery fabric.  Mainly I need to redo the floors, so that has been holding up the whole project.  Can't decide if I want to replace the carpet or put in hardwood floors.

#4.  I am going to finish making my new pillow covers for the livingroom using the lovely beige and cream fabrics that I have, then I am adding this fabulous Mink throw to the mix.

So what is on your to-do or wish list for this coming year.  Are there some big projects or just a few smaller ones.  I would love to know.

  5. Great list and all very doable. you know me, my mind is swirling with ideas. I have yet too go around the house and ear mark projects for this year, but I do have something up my sleeve for the laundry room. Right now I am working on my wardrobe as you can tell from my last couple of post. Totally having fun with that, next is clean, purge and organize the closet!! Happy New Year and I love the huntsman room, Kathysue

  14. I think I have to buy a new car this year. Dreading the process but I'm sure a new vehicle will be nice even though I love my 12 year old SUV. Oh...did you mean home projects? Hmm...

Your list looks fun. Can't wait to see your before and after posts!

  15. Do I have a "To Do List" ?!?! :-D
My lists are so long there are things on them carried over from year to year. Your list looks more interesting/fun than mine.

  16. We have just moved into the home we bought to retire in, after twenty years in the same house.

While i do LOVE the house we bought, there are a few things I would like to upgrade and personalize. The kitchen has a vinyl floor covering, and I would like to replace tht with stone tile.

The guest bathroom, which has nicely upgraded fixtures, still is a bit bland and I will enjoy perking it up a litte.

All in all I am looking forward to a peaceful year in our new home.

I'll look forward to reading about your projects.

  24. Marty it seems like several of us have bathroom remodels on our mind this year. I just want to get started on the kitchen remodel first, and get that behind me. It usually takes me a few months to recover both financially and mentally. LOL I am writing a new post right now about wall collages. I love the one you posted. What a great way to add some interest to an otherwise boring space above the toilet. And I can't tell you how much I love, love, love your plans for your guest room. I love paisley and houndstooth, such a classic. I can't wait to see all of your changes. Hope you had a great weekend.

  25. All of those "to do" projects sound good. I'm currently working on the planning stage of redoing my half bath right now. I have some more expensive plans later in the year (once we get a vehicle paid off). I want new carpet upstairs and the house exterior repainted. Hopefully, I'll be able to accomplish that this year!

  26. Sounds wonderful!!! I had a friend who decorated her guest room in the English Hunting theme. It looked wonderful!! With your taste, and the things you already have, it's gonna be a showstopper!! :) That bath collage is very pretty too!!!

    Have fun :)

  27. WOW.... you sure don't have much planned, do you? Sounds like lots and lots of work. But, the rewards will be fantastic. Love all your ideas. I'm (hopefully) ripping out all the carpet too, but mine is getting 16 inch tile. Can't wait...the tile is in the garage! Love the horse theme...one of my all time favorites! Great choices. Can't wait to see how it all turns out. Have a wonderful rest of the day...xoso Sandy

As for your new floor, I did just that this past year and pulled all the carpeting in the downstairs.. I love the wood flooring!

  36. Marty, looks like some great projects ahead!..I am working on my post for my "12 projects for 2012"..Trying to blog in-between the enormous task of taking down the Christmas decorations. I am holding to a promise of scaling down the decorations next year.

A few of my projects (stay tuned) will be a window seat in the dining room, wainscoting around my bar area and currently working on the powder room..but my list is long!

    Looking forward to your projects!

  38. It's always fun to dream up new ideas isn't it? Your guest room sounds like it will be especially pretty. It would be easier to ask what isn't on my list, as much of our house needs updating of some sort, but the biggest project I'd like to do is to finally get my bathroom redecorated. This involves painting everything, so that's been on hold for a long time.

    Have a great afternoon Marty!

  40. It sounds as if you will be busy! We will be replacing carpet in the future, but we are waiting until our older dog leaves us and the pup is trained. Our main wishes for this year are to redo our bedroom bath and put in a new patio door. We planned to have the door installed before winter, but we couldn't find anyone to do the work!

My husband got me a coat from Soft Surroundings for Christmas. Don't you just love everything in their catalog?
