A Start to the Bathroom Redo

I am starting to accumulate all the things I will need for the Hall Bathroom redo.  A trip to Home Goods and I found a great rug.  For now it is in the hall bath, but it will also work in the laundry room.  I just need to figure out how I want the bathroom to look.  I have a little bit of tropical casual now, but maybe something more elegant would be lovely.

This really is your standard builder basic.  I have already replaced the light fixture and the shower curtain is one from our previous house.  I may keep it, I am not sure.  The slab mirror is definitely going to go and I need all new accessories.  The walls are painted a really soft camel color and if I keep the shower curtain I will use some black in the accessories.  I think black and camel is a fabulous color scheme and I love the camel color of the walls.  I also saw a fabulous camel colored toile that would be stunning for a shower curtain, and I already have a camel strip that would be fabulous also.

I really like this rug that I found at Ross.  It is a runner and just the perfect size for the room.

See how perfect the color is with the Travertine tile.  I like that it goes from the tub to the door so you have something soft and warm on your feet the entire length of the bathroom.  A great rug for $14.99. Looks good with the current decor.

I think I have definitely decided that a round mirror would look the best.

Ok, I need to find the mirror and then some fabulous accessories and then this project can get underway.  Oh I just saw a bathroom today that was so elegant and so frenchy, beautiful scroll mirror, gorgeous monogrammed towels, elegant gold and crystal accessories and the most beautiful silk needlepoint rug.  Ok, I need to figure out what I really want to do, this is getting hard.  I wonder if I can make this plain bathroom look elegant?

Thanks for stopping by, I always look forward to your visits.

There seems to be so much confusion and anxiety about what is going on with GFC.  So since I really don't want to lose any of you that follow me or that I follow, please pick one of the ways TO FOLLOW ME.  ON MY SIDEBAR and follow along.  Thanks.

  1. What a great runner dear Marty and it all looks so pretty! you've just inspired me to redo our visit bathroom this year, as it's very small too. I need to do something totally different, it's so plain and just outdated, with no creativity to it. Thanks for sharing. Happy weekend.

  5. I'm sure it will look great when it's done. I always start with a plan too when redoing a room. I like the changes you're planning on making. I think smaller rooms are easier to do than larger ones, so I'm sure your room will come together quickly. At least you didn't have to repaint it!

  9. I know the redo will be fantastic Marty especially when I heard the word "Toile" Love the stuff~ I started clearing out my huge craft closet to redo. I know it will take me ages with the little bits of time I have to work on it so am not going to post about it yet- maybe not till it's done then I won't feel the self pressure to get it finished quickly though that would be fantastic if I were able. Who knows maybe the Lord will provide me with a huge chunk of time!

Oh no,are we who are still with blogspot going to loose our follower list too?

  13. Marty....I think your bathroom is pretty now...but I am going out on a limb here...have you thought about painting the base cabinet black? Paint the walls camel. I think the oak cabinet is what you are really struggling with. A round mirror would be fabulous! Just a thought....

  14. Marty, can't wait to see what you do to your bathroom, love your ideas! Im especially interested in your round mirror idea, I have the same type of mirror as your current mirror and would love to replace ours also.

  17. I'm sure that you will make it look very elegant, Marty! I have a similar mirror in both the bathrooms here, but I think I'm going to get one of those mirror framing kits for the main bathroom {which is about the size of yours}. Love the shower curtain!

  18. Marty,

I love your bathroom as it is, but I agree with CeeKay. Black cabinet, and maybe a round or oval black framed mirror. You wouldn't need to do anything else!!! Your shower curtain is beautiful. Love the rug! Have fun, I'll be waiting to see what you do.

  19. I changed out my mirror to a long oval last year and cant believe the difference it made in the whole feel and look of the room.. I also think the cab would be great in black and give it the touch of drama you want.. Then a black round mirror and Viola- a whole new room for you.

  20. I think a round mirror would look so pretty in there Marty, whatever you do it will be great!

  21. I love the colors and how everything is working together. If you have Hobby Lobby in your area, you might want to see if you can find a round or oval mirror there. They are often on sale and there's usually a good selection.

    Have a great day.

  22. You've got a great plan for this room. Your new runner does coordinate perfectly with your tile. I think a round mirror over your sink will look fabulous!

I'm following you with the new Linky follower tool.

  23. Watching to see what you do - I think the route you are on now is pretty. I stared at my 1/2 bath today, trying to see what is needed.
The way I understand the GFC thing is, if you blog thru google blogger the GFC issue won't affect you - only the ones who use wordpress, typepad, etc .

  24. I love round mirrors. Hope you are able to find one you like! The room already looks pretty:-)

  25. The only thing I would change is the mirror! The bath looks pretty nice already! I'm going to follow you on the linky widget!

  30. Oh my goodness, Marty. You posted at 8-something this morning and you already have 29 comments! Nice!! I'm sure a few have given you some suggestions.
I had a slab mirror too. We we had a redo two years ago I had the mirror removed and I went to an antique store and bought a large oval mirror. Worked great! I'm so happy with it.
Can't wait to see your redo!!
Thank you for visiting me today.

  31. You always have such great taste so I know what ever you decide will look wonderful. I have a similar powder room downstairs. I have an oval mirror that I've had for 30+ years and I just love it in this room. Another thing you could do is get molding and install it around the mirror. My hubby did that in our bathroom and it looks great. You mentioned GFC...I think that's something to do with Google. I've been having such issues with either IE, yahoo, or my laptop and I can't figure out what's going on. Maybe it has something to do with google!!! If I use Google Chrome the blogs seem to load much faster than with IE. I hate having computer issues!

  38. The good thing is you already have such a beautiful color base to work with. And I LOVE that shower curtain, although I know the feeling when you start a redecorating/remodeling project you tend to want new. :) I think some wrought iron scrollwork, some antique bronze fixtures etc would be beautiful. But I know whatever you do, its going to be spectacular! Can't wait to see what you do. Hugs, Barb

  39. Your new rug looks great- It seems like it has the right texture to go with the tropical shower curtain.
Good luck on the mirror (I have a feeling yours is glued to the wall- which they do a lot these days and will open up another can of worms).
I like the idea of a framed mirror. I would like to do that but I put in one of those built ins with the doors that open. It does offer some needed storage but it would be a big job to remove and fix the wall.

  40. I can't wait to see what you come up with!!!

  41. Hi Marty, I saw the picture of your bathroom the other day and just fell in love with your shower curtain. I am curious to know if you made it and, if so, have you done a tutorial on how to make it. If not, would you please consider doing so. Even if you don't keep the shower curtain I am sure the finished bathroom will be just gorgeous, as always.

  42. Hi Marty,
I have the 8ft long mirrors in my baths and I'm framing them. It is a really inexpensive way to change the look. The color/finish on the wood molding can be customized to fit your decor. I won't give up the big mirrors, they make the rooms seem larger and brighter. The framing is very nice. Just another idea.
