I Did It

It's not pretty, but I finished going through all the boxes in the garage and found a home for everything.  We took 2 loads to Goodwill and I threw away 4 huge trash bags of stuff.  I found a home for everything that I wanted to keep and now I can at least see it.  There's an inset area in the garage just before you go in the door to the house, so I put a metal shelf unit and a door cupboard that we had there and it holds all of my extra decor stuff that I didn't have a place for.  Not the prettiest storage units, but since we already had them,  it was free and it works.

Behind the doors are cloches and more fragile things, plus some of the larger kitchen appliances like the bread machine and roaster oven on the bottom.

The two blue bins hold florals and pillow covers that I love to change up all the time.

The top holds some of my really tall accessories.

Lots of figurines

Miscellaneous

 Different containers and corbels.

 Trays, basket and larger containers.

The white box is bubble wrap and the other three are family keepsakes that I will pass down to the kids.

Like I said, not pretty, but it is all put in one place.  I think I will put a cloth across the front of the metal shelving, that will keep some of the dust away.

I put my extra lamps and shades on the shelf in the guest bdrm, plus I was able to hang all the extra bedding on this side of the closet.  A plastic drawer unit holds a ton of candles, tea light holders and craft paints.  The other half of the closet is open for guests to use.

I need to find one of those flat storage containers for wrapping paper and ribbons.  I want one that I can slide under the bed and then I think I am done for now.  Nice to have things sorted out and a place to call home.

  2. You did what I started and never finished. I really need to get the job finished as I am tired of the clutter.

  3. Great Job!! My husband built wood shelves in our garage that holds similar items for me. I used
the drying cleaning plastic bags to cover the flower arrangements that I like to switch to keep
from getting dusty. They are great! Clear, light weight and free!

  4. Oh that must feel so good. Our garage gets so dirty so I don't store much out there unless it is bins. Nice that you have those shelves and can see what you have.

  7. I'll bet you're glad you got that done, Marty! I love how you've got everything set up on those shelves in the garage. You can see what you've got and it's all in one place. I have stuff all over ~ a drawer here, a cabinet there. It's fun when I'm looking for something I "know I have somewhere"!

  12. So green with envy (or should I say coral since that's the color of the year?)! What a satisfying accomplishment - lots of hard work, but so worth it in the end. Great job! Jane

  14. Marty,

You have been so busy! Doesn't it feel good though, to have it all done? I kinda did the same thing recently. I got rid of a lot of stuff. Hope you relax some now, and enjoy your organized pretties!

  16. Hi Marty,
Good for you, you go girl! My garage needs work in a big way, and that is a great idea to get all your stuff together in one area. I have stuff in those tubs like your blue ones and they are together but then I have other things stuck all over the house in closets or cabinets. At least they are put away and I know where they are but I would prefer to have a place to store it all together. I did make a place for all my candle cups awhile back and that has
definitely been better. One of these days, think maybe when it gets cooler
I gotta start tackling that garage.............lol

Glad you did..........and you will be reeping and enjoying the benefits long before I get started. lol

    Enjoy!!
    Blessings, Nellie

  18. I so wish I was this far along with organizing all my extra junk! I is so nice to know right where to find everything. You have really inspired me to get going on my own garage!

  19. We think alike Marty. A few weeks ago I did the same thing to a closet of ours. I used to put things in boxes and forgot what I had in them. So I decided that all my holiday decor would stay in boxes, but my other things that I change around every so often would be put in the closet so I could see them and not forgot.

  26. Good for you. I think the hardest part of sorting and decluttering is the last few boxes. I never know where to put things and end up with a pile of odds and sods. Congrats on getting all the boxes done.

  32. Good for you Marty....it feels so good to be organized and free of clutter!!! I am doing the same thing, took me about 2 months to clean out the garage, tons of stuff in the trash, tons of stuff donated and finally....this weekend is the BIG garage sale to get rid of the rest, and I feel pounds lighter already, and I love walking into that clean garage, even scrubbed the cement floor.....next winter, the basement, as we call it..."the abyss".....hugs...cleo
