I Found A New Chair

If you have been following along, I have been looking for a new recliner for me in the familyroom.  I love the one I've had for years and have had it recovered, but it is time for something smaller and a different style.  Well, today I not only found one, I found two, twins and they were an unreal price, so I bought them both.  One will go to my son for his new house.

Here it is, isn't the style perfect and the smaller scale looks perfect too.

Now before you say anything about the color, there was a reason for these two chairs.

When I found them, they seemed really well made and the legs were exactly like the leather recliner I have, so I started trying to find out who the Mfg. was.  This was stapled to the bottom.  I didn't mean to pull it off, but it was just hanging there with one staple.  They are La-Z-Boy.   The ones we have now are La-Z-Boy and I totally love them.

Next reason is this.  Can you believe the price!!!!!!   $19.99 for each chair.  I bought a few other things, but $40.00 for 2 La-Z-Boy recliners is unreal.

This is a close up of the fabric.  Not what I want, however it looks fabulous in my son's house with my old beige sofa.  I have looked and looked and couldn't find what I wanted in the fabric I wanted, now I can have mine reupholstered in exactly what I want and it will still be cheaper than buying new.

Now, don't you like it better.  I took the one with the most wear since I am going to have mine reupholstered, but the one I gave to my son looks fabulous.  I think I struck gold.

Remember, this is what the old recliner looked like.  My son wants it for his familyroom.  It will work great for his man cave.

I think this style and size is much better for this room.  I am finally getting the furniture in proportion to the size of this house. - - - - small.

The other treasures that I found were some napkins.  8 of the black/white plaid, 4 of the brown/white check and 4 of the beige.  These will work perfectly with my dishes and tablescapes.

They are only 49c each too, so great buy.

$47.82 for 2 La-Z-Boy recliners and 16 napkins and it wasn't even 1/2 price of Senior Day.  Yip-Skip

As I have told you all before, I live on the far outskirts of town and GW is the only thing close to me.  No  thrift store or major shopping, however, I do live next to some really luxurious homes and there is plenty of money around, so donations to the GW are always fabulous.  If you can find a GW in a really affluent area, you may be surprised what all you can pick up.

  3. Great job Marty! I am so happy for you. I love the price and love that you can recover it in anything you want. I sure wish we had GW here. It's all the church owned thrift stores here and not the quality that GW can get...

    Have a great weekend.

  4. Amazing, and I don't even mind the fabric so much. LOL I really wish our GW was half as good as yors. Ours has stuff that should be hauled to the dump and/or they want almost retail price for it. No lie - they recently had two glass canisters I could buy at Walmart for about the same price. Unreal! You definitely had a great day! I know you will pick out some awesome fabric b/c you have such a good eye for it. Hope you're having a great weekend.

You have such a gift of choosing great fabrics...so I know this is going to look fabulous when reupholstered!!! The napkins are a great buy, also! I recently made a purchase of new napkins @ $4.95 each!!! Not only did you find a great bargain for yourself...but your son, as well! What a great shopper!

  26. Marty, those chairs are definitely a FIND. Good for you! I stopped by GW today when I went to the grocery store because it is next door. Nada! I don't think Saturday's are a good day to shop GW. It's their day for the auction, so that probably brings in a crowd. ;-)

  30. Marty, Sorry about the deleted comment above...I was having problems leaving a comment! The chairs were great finds and I can't believe the price. Unfortunately our local Goodwills are not in the best of areas and the pickings are slim. You always seem to find the best things at yours.

  47. Looks as though we both bought recliners the same day. However, mine weren't quite the bargain you got! We went looking for something cheap because I'm pregnant and can't breathe sometimes laying down, so we thought a recliner (even though I'm not really a recliner person) might help me. However, cheap was not what we got. Goodness! I love the ones we got though, and hubby is happy to have a recliner (or two) now. Anyway, all that said, I saw your exact chairs at a furniture store for almost $600! I'd say you got a great bargain!!

  48. Talk about a nose for bargained...I think you've got it.

  49. The first thing to do when you find a recliner you like is to make sure it is of quality construction. Check to see that the fabric and cushioning is free of lumps. Lumps are a sign of inferior padding. Also, nonmoving parts break first so inspect the underside and frame. Look for sturdy construction and heavy screws. Walk away from recliners with plastic pieces or sloppy looking fasteners.
