Adding More White & Purging

Do you ever look around and discover that even though you love all of your accessories, everything looks soooooooooooooooo busy and you just have to thin things out and have a calmer look and feel.  That's exactly how I felt about the living room this week.

I think mainly what I wanted was less contrast with colors and more of a monotone look.

I replaced the two brass lamps with my white ones.  They tend to blend in better with the rest of the white decor and white furniture.

This one is a simple ginger jar that I found at GW for about $5 I think.  It's nice and tall and I love it's graceful lines.  Some ginger jars are squatty, but this one is very slender and has an hourglass look.  Really pretty shape.

This is another one from GW and I think it was around $5 too.  I've had them both for a couple of years, so I don't remember the exact price.  I love them both, a great size and wonderful floral reliefs on this one.

I replaced the floral arrangement on the coffee table with a few things I originally had on the dining table.

Now when I walk in it just seems so much more relaxing and calm.  So what do you think, are you also feeling that less is more?  I've been adding more white to the house, I'll show you more later.

  6. I love your changes, Marty!

I have always been a less-is-more monochromatic designer, so I always lean that way.

You are right - it is more serene and calming, your eye has a chance to rest.

It's also very nice for warmer temperature season.

    Hugs.

P.S. I don't post with my iPad and rarely comment with it. I mostly use it for reading and browsing. So you are doing better than me! :)

  11. I totally get what you mean Marty. Sometimes I find myself feeling jolted by certain colors and white is a nice reprieve. I love those white lamps what a good find.

  23. I always feel like less is more (so I put all the more in my very crowded dish room in the basement). I just trade things around every few months as the weather or my mood changes. I love the white lamps with your other whites.

  24. I got rid of a lot of the extra pillows on the beds....it just made me hot! I think the older I get the less foofoo I want, especially, when I want to go to bed!
