Antique Cutting Boards as Decor

I love and use cutting boards every meal and most of the time I have two or three going in different areas of the kitchen.  I like to be able to grab one easily, so I usually have a few on display.

I found a new one the other day that replaces one I broke years ago.  Marble is fabulous for so many different things.  This one I have right by the stove, easy to grab and chop as I'm cooking or a place to set something hot out of the oven.  This one isn't nearly as large as my last one, but it will do.

Standing up in the back is my pig chopping board, I use this little guy all the time.  Definitely one of my favorites.

The smaller heart handled one was a gift from a precious friend when I visited her in Fredericksburg, Tx. years ago.

I adore this one and yes, I have cut on it too.  This came from an antique shop in Fredericksburg.

I love having things handy, but it's also nice to decorate with them.  Sometimes our everyday items really are pretty.

I have a few others that I showed in this post.  Be sure to check it out.

So, do you keep all your everyday things out and handy so you can just grab them when you need them, or do you have them neatly tucked away in the cabinets?

  2. Mine are out as well and well used. For some really strange reason, when we were moving 8 years ago, I got rid of quite a few. What was I thinking?? I am in the process of rebuilding my collection. I got rid of my piggy one... :-(

  5. I think I would like a marble cutting board. Easy to clean. I dont really trust wood boards. I have a wood one and two ugly plastic ones... lol.. most of the time I use paper plates to cut on!
    happy day!

  8. Marty, we keep cutting boards out ready to use. Your cute pig board reminds me of one I had many years ago. Not sure where it is anymore. Your vignettes in the kitchen are both useful and decorative.

  9. Marty,
I keep my cutting boards in an open narrow vertical space in my stovetop island. Easy in and out...no opening doors, but keeps the countertop free. I do keep one on top on display on top of the Jenn Air grill. It is a strictly for display only; no cutting on it! One of my oldest and dearest friends gave it to me for Christmas years ago.

Your boards are wonderful, and I love how you have displayed them.

  10. Marty, I love your marble cutting board. I have always wondered if this type of board dulled your knives? What do you find when you use yours? My cutting boards are not out. I lack the space big time but then again mine are not much to look at. ;-). Have a wonderful day!

    1. Oh I don't think they dull the knives at all. I had a much larger one that I dropped and broke and I also used it as a pastry board. They are wonderful for rolling out dough. I couldn't find a big one this time, but I am still looking.

  13. I keep most stuff tucked away in cabinets or drawers, Marty. Love your various cutting boards. I have a marble cheese round that I don't use too often. I may have to think about taking that out and having my oils sit on it.

  14. I have a huge marble cutting board that I use mainly for photo props for my cooking blog, From Harvest To Table. I also have a pig one that I use for display in the kitchen. My working ones are tucked in the cabinet until needed, because they are the thin, eco friendly, not necessarily pretty ones. Yours look great in your kitchen, adding warmth.

  15. Great collection! I have everything tucked away, not enough counter space to display things!

  16. That is an adorable and handy vignette, the cutting boards look great but so easy to grab and use! I love the butter tray as well, I have seen similar pieces in other kitchens and love the big black lettering. Your Mr. Pig waiter wants to come to my house, well, I wish he would anyway, he is too much fun!!

  18. I tuck everything away and then it takes forever for me to find what I need!! haha I always like looking at the vignettes on your counters - you do a great job putting things together!

  19. Love your vignette's ,I also love cutting boards I have never seen one like the heart one, I love it! Everyone has their favorite and it's usually the smallest one you can pick up making it easy to slide meat and vegetable into the pan. You can never have to many that's my theory! With the wooden ones just a polish of some evoo and they look wonderful again.

  20. Love the corner vignette--rooster, scales, lemons, etc., so much that I pinned it to "My Soon-to-be French Country Kitchen" Pinterest board. Thanks so much for posting and for always providing beautiful inspiration!

  21. Marty,
Love the new marble cutting board, dear friend!!!
"Mr. Ed" and I are definitely a "two cutting board" family, at least!
We keep the boards in the cupboard,
as there is NO ROOM for them in our dainty galley style kitchen!!!
Function and design don't always go hand~in~hand here on the Prairie!!!
    Fondly,
    Pat

  24. I'm with you -- keep it out so you can enjoy it and use it, too. I LOVE that you've got artificial baked goods under a dome -- at least I'm assuming they are artificial. I do the same thing and get teased about it constantly. Just discovered your blog and love it!

  25. That board with a heart is adorable! I don't have any cabinets in my kitchen (yet!) so everything is outside and I think half in cabinets half outside should be better!

  27. If my kitchen work stuff looked as good as yours, I'd display it too. You always make such wonderful vignettes in your kitchen. My kitchen vignettes usually consist of dirty pots and dishes! Every time I see your scale, I fall in love with it all over again. laurie

  29. I love how you display your cutting boards. What a great idea. I love the idea that they are decorations until you need them.

  30. Like that darling little scale you have too Marty! Your counters always look so wonderful! Haven't even had time to change out to summer decor here and it will be Fall before we know it!!

I have been on bear watch for the past few weeks. We had a fire a few weeks ago which has caused bears to come into town and they are trying to get to my honey. Am hoping to harvest the large hive which has about 60 lbs. this weekend. I hope he doesn't get in to the hive before I have time to harvest!

  32. I have a pig cutting board too - well I should say my husband does, as it was a Christmas gift a few years ago. He was also given a bunch of bacon - I kid you not. This family knows what he loves, haha.

I don't keep much out at all. I am a minimalist by nature - in fact my home has more out than it EVER has, and that's the truth. But I know where it all is and can find it easily.

Unless it is in the basement - the Black Hole....then it may take awhile to find...BUT I am cleaning it and boy is it lots better! YAY!

Love your boards, Marty- and your attitude about life and making things easier on oneself.

    Hugs.

  33. Hi Marty! Oh, I love your cutting boards. I don't have any wooden ones except a huge one! I can see you can decorate with them. I always love seeing your vignettes. Hope you're having a good week.

  36. I love the marble and heart boards especially Marty. I have a board I picked up at a thrift store awaiting a special treatment. My others are plastic, and not so pretty. I plan to replace them gradually with wood as I find well loved vintage ones. Thanks for sharing this at What We Accomplished Wednesdays! Have a super week!

    Hugs,
    Deborah
