A Trip to Ikea

From my house it is quite the drive to Ikea, according to their directions it is 39.2 miles from my house.  I live on the west side of town and Ikea is on the southeast side, so I have tons of town, freeways and traffic to battle to get there.  Needless to say, I don't go all that often, but they had some things I really wanted to check out, so off I went.

First thing I spotted when I got there was this throw that I had been coveting, they had it thrown over a sofa as you enter.  I saw it in the family room tour at City Farmhouse and fell in love.  She said it came from Ikea, so I looked for it while I was there. You really need to see her familyroom, it is stunning.

Love the colors, grey, brown and a tiny stripe with rust.  It will go with so much and I adore plaid.

I think the fringe is fabulous.  I love how they used all the different colors for it.

Love the grey and brown mixed together. Great combination

Of course you always find tons of treasure when you are there, so I had to have this little brown & cream orb.  It works perfectly with my spheres.

Finding the throw and orb was just the icing on the cake, however the main reason for the trip was these drapes.  I wanted to see the fabric first hand and make sure they were what I wanted.

I love them, they look like a nice linen when they are hung, such a pretty fabric and for $24.95 for the pair, wow, how can you go wrong.

Remember I showed you my idea board here, so this is just a little start.  These curtains are going to be fabulous in my living room.  I can't wait to start pulling that room together for a whole new look.

  6. I love those curtains and have them in our living room and master bedroom. The quality and texture is fantastic! Love the throw you picked up, too. And the orb,,,that place is so dangerous! The closest one to me is in Connecticut and if we don't hit traffic it is exactly one hour away, so our visits are pretty infrequent.

  9. Beautiful throw Marty! I've never been to Ikea as my closest one is about 1-1/2 hours away! I guess that's probably a good thing as I would probably get myself in trouble for buying too much! LOL!! Love the curtains too and the price is amazing!!

  10. Those are exactly the same drapes I used in the ManCave. Love your finds. Hope you also brought home some meatballs.

  12. Great purchases, Marty! I don't know if I'm lucky or not to live about thirty minutes from IKEA.....:)! The Man and I really like the store and have made many purchases there. With The Man being an engineer and a builder, he is very impressed with the quality of most of IKEA'S products. I think their draperies are fab, as well as the drapery hardware, and I've gradually replaced most of my decorator pillow forms with their feather forms (at $7 each, that is an incredible buy). The next time you go, we should meet for lunch (not necessarily at IKEA....lol)!

  13. Love Ikea ! I used to live real close to one and always enjoyed shopping for my son's college home. Also, had a plate of meatballs on my shopping trip. I think their drapes are wonderful. Great price and nice long length. IKEA is such a fun store if you have to shop with a baby. Now my Ikea is 2 1/2 hours away . I only go a few times a year now but always have the meatballs!

  14. I can see the direction you are going and I think it's going to look great! I've never been to an IKEA store. The closest one is about 300 miles from me in southern Michigan. I'm told it can be overwhelming. I have to travel 75 miles just to get to a Hobby Lobby! LOL.... I'm so deprived!

  15. I love IKEA too Marty! I have to drive to the TWin Cities about 2.5 hrs. to get to one but we still do a couple times a year.
Love your new drapes and throw, your room is going to be stunning of course!
    See ya soon dear friend.
Our high today with the windchill will be -11. We have had the winter from hell. I can't wait to feel warmth at least for a few days.

  18. I love Ikea, but it's 41 miles from my house (you and I are practically neighbors!) so I rarely go. I think I'll have to treat it like a day trip, complete with onsite picnic!

  19. Ikea is my Happy Place!! I try to go once a month or so and just like you I'm north of the city and it's south....so it's a ride but well worth it....I love that plaid throw...I also love their embroidered throw pillows....such a bargain at $19.99 including the inside...Pottery Barn did you hear that??.....I saw they are getting in a line this month of Asian inspired items so a trip next week is on my list.....I even have the husband appreciating the place....he loves their chairs on wheels!

  21. Good finds are one of the pluses of going to Ikea, but as I'm sure you know, you have to have time to roam because there's no way you get out in a hurry!

  30. Love that throw, Marty! I had a bit of a distance between my home in NY and Ikea, and now here in Ohio and the closest Ikea. When I go I wind up spending because I don't go often. Maybe once a year. It is good that most of the things I am interested in aren't expensive.

  36. I love your plans for the living room. I did not know their linen drapes were so reasonable! I would not break the bank to put them up over winter when my bright Suzani drapes look too bold (I turned them to have the lining face out and will turn around in Feb.). But what I like is that you redo but I check and you have the photo print of the man praying for his food. My family received that print when we left our farm for CA. It's always been the main feature of my folks'wall by the table.

  37. You change things but you keep special things. Secretly I hope you always keep that picture too. Of the man bowing over his food. I'd always thought it was a painting until I read the history. Thus that's why I follow. You do not stagnate in your style yet you also include items of the past.

  43. Marty, your curtains, throw and orb are lovely. We make it to Ikea maybe once a year it is almost two hours away. I do have a wonderful time discovering things there. I usually make a list before we arrive because it is so easy to get lost, giggle. I look forward to your big reveal, I already know I will love whatever you do. Thank you for sharing at the Thursday Favorite Things Blog Hop . Big Hugs
