Friends For Dessert

It's always such a rush to get everything ready for Christmas, plus finding time to spend with family, so getting together with friends usually comes after all the hub-bub.  I made a few pies so we could have pie and coffee and just sit and visit and catch up.

                                                   Pecan is always a favorite.

I've shared this recipe before, but in case you missed it.  It really is wonderful.

Seems like everyone loves Pumpkin too.  Now honestly, I just use the recipe on the can, but it really is a great recipe, so why reinvent the wheel.

Then of course I had to make my very favorite - - -Chocolate Meringue, for recipe and a step by step to this really easy and versatile pie, click here.

Fresh out of the oven, oh and it smells so good in the kitchen right now.

So how are you winding down the Holidays?

  5. Looks so delicious! Love homemade pies. Did you make your own crust! For me the pie is all about the crust. It is a lot of work.

    1. Yes, I make the crust, but I do think that some of the refrigerator ones from the grocery aren't too bad if you're in a hurry.

  10. I love having dessert teas - coffee and pie is same thing, really - they're fun, inexpensive, easy and doable and almost always at a time of the time or evening when friends are free to come by.................love your post. It's a good reminder that it doesn't ahve to be the pull-out-all-the-stops five course meals that takes a week to prepare. Just make a cake, pie, whatever and invite a friend or friends over to REALLY VISIT - with no other agenda but to be friends and be together. Love it. Perfect winter plan.

I have never had chocolate meringue pie, sounds heavenly, yum.

    PS
I add to that pumpkin pie recipe some nutmeg. They should have included it, it tastes really good with it. : - )

  13. Yummo! I've made your recipe for pecan pie & it was delish. Your friends are very lucky to have been invited over for such luscious treats.
I've never tried making Chocolate Meringue. I'm guessing it is very similar to the French Chocolate Silk pie that we get from Perkins. Another delish treat...my grands LOVE that one!!
Thanks for sharing the recipes, Marty.

  17. A slice of each please. I would like to know how one keeps from burning the pie crust, especially on the pumpkin. I can't seem to not burn the crust or at least it is really brown. I also use a glass pie plate. Any help would be appreciated.

    1. My recipe calls for a reduce in temp after the first 15 minutes, I think that helps, and if you have a thicker crust it also helps. Otherwise you can add some foil around the edge of the pie crust.

    2. thanks Marty. I do that as well but I still come up with browner crust. I've also tried the foil around the edges but that doesn't seem to work either. Maybe I'll start out at a lower temp to begin with and reduce from there and see if that works. Thanks for the help.

  18. Yum! They all look delicious and the chocolate meringue is one I have not tried. What a great idea to get together with friends after the holidays. A few work friends were planning on gathering but ran out of time and now I'm inspired to host an after holiday get together too. A dessert party sounds like a great idea. Thanks for the inspiration!
