More About The Check Drapes

I had quite a few email me asking questions about the check drapes I showed you for my family/breakfast rooms.  I thought the easiest was to answer them here in a post.

Here is a picture of the room with the drapes.  You can see the entire post here

First as I said they are made from tablecloths that I ordered from a company called Boscov's.  I had a ton of questions about the quality since they are only $12.99 for each tablecloth.  They come in different sizes, the ones I used were 60 x 104 inches.  I needed 100 inch long for my drapes, so all I did was a 4 inch hem at the top to add extra weight to the header.

Here is a close up picture of the drapes.

This shows a close up of the weave of the fabric.  It is a really nice medium to heavy weight linen type fabric. It looks really rich in person.  As you can see in the above picture of the room, very little light shows through the weave, so they are fine not being lined.

Here is a picture of all the other colors they have.  I have the black check that I am going to use in the guest room for a makeover I am planning and it is gorgeous.  I also bought one of the green to use to make some pillows out of and it is a true apple green just like the picture.

Again, I have not been compensated in any way from Boscov's, just passing along a bargain.  If you order some, let me know what you think.

Hope that answers all of your questions.

Be sure to link up tomorrow afternoon for Inspire Me Tuesday.  Party will be live aroound 3:30 Central Time.  I can't wait to see what all you have been up to.

  2. Hi Marty,
I love that you made these beautiful drapes out of table cloths. This is genius especially since check drapes are hard to find.

  3. Very pretty. I think it gives the room a fresh, young look, and just the right amount of formal for Arizona.

  4. I did check out Boscov's after your previous post on the curtains because I had never heard of them. After this ringing endorsement, I think I am going to order a red one to make an alternative skirt for my sink. Sometime this week I hope to get my project of the curtains for the den posted because those are also fro tablecloths. I think it is the best kept secret out there for getting enough fabric at a great price.

  5. I really do like these drapes Marti. They were the perfect choice and add so much to the room. Wish I had a room that I could use them in because checks always make me smile and happy. Thanks for sharing your source.

  6. Table cloths and even sometimes shower curtains make a great drape. There are just so many patterns. I love Boscov's, they have some great bargains. I wish we had the actual store here. You reminded me that I need to make curtains for a guest room, and I need to go explore.
I love your home and you have given me so many options for my own, Thank you.

  7. I bought the round checked cloths in 3 colors to use as table cloths :-) Not quite large enough for my kitchen table but I will layer them over larger, solid color cloths. Really like your new drapes in the family/breakfast areas, less formal and seems perfect to me. Thanks for the heads up on this site.

    1. Yes, I just hemmed them and hung them with rings and clips on my rods. That's the same way my other ones were and they do look fabulous. I really like the checks. It is such pretty fabric. Hugs, Marty

  14. Hi Sweet Marty! I love those drapes. They probably will sell out now that you have done a post about them...
I have been wanting black check curtains in my dining room...that seems to look more and more French Country all the time!
Your home looks great. Love the comfortable and elegant feel it has. Great post.

  18. Marty, your drapes are gorgeous! Wish I'd seen this post before I paid to have some made for our guest room! Thanks for including the link because I have been wanting to recover the seats of my dining room chairs and this may work perfectly!

  19. Marty, your drapes are beautiful! They are similar to some I made for my daughter's dining and living area, but she spent more per yard than you did on each tablecloth and I furnished the lining, as I already had fabric on hand for that. You did shop smart on those drapes!

  20. Marty, I LOVE, LOVE these checked drapes!! They're beautiful! I especially love the color for your room, and I agree that it adds a French country touch to your decor. I chose a smaller check curtain in black for our "new" kitchen; I love it and I'm sure yours will be so pretty for your guest room makeover. I did get my black and white checked curtains from Country Curtains (they were a gift from my mom). We have shopped at Country Curtains for years, but they are very expensive. I don't change curtains very often at all, so I feel like I can justify paying a little more. I can tell you like to change yours more often, and it's wonderful that you can sew and make them yourself -- such a money-saver. :)

You have such good taste in decorating, Marty, and I love your new look! Thanks for sharing your inspiration with us -- hope you have a great day.

    Hugs to you,

    Denise at Forest Manor

  21. Thanks for sharing your "drapery" source, Marty. I'm always on the lookout for classic, inexpensive (but quality!) fabric sources, and you've obviously found one in Boscov's! Your draperies (and "new" room) look great!

  22. I really love your checked curtains! They look beautiful in your room and add just the right amount of pattern. You're so smart to use a tablecloth to make them. I'm sure that saved your a ton of money and now you have one of a kind draperies. They don't look cheap at all!

  23. Just to let you know; I did order 4 of these tablecloths. I have always used check tablecloths for my curtains at times when I wanted checks. The ones I already had on hand were not even in length so when I saw this buy I ordered them immediately. I am looking forward to using them. Thanks again.

  24. Marty, they looks fabulous...been searching the stores for some tablecloths for drapes in one area and so happy that you have steered us in the right direction!!!...

  25. Marty, I LOVE Boscovs! I ordered some flannel sheets from there several Christmases ago and still love them. They have great sales and promotional items.

  26. I love the drapes! How ingenious and economical way to dress up the windows!

  27. They look so pretty, Marty. You know, I have tablecloths from Tues Morning on the windows in my bedroom. I used curtain clips to hang them, and every-other clip holds the curtains that previously hung in the windows. they hang behind the tablecloths. It gives them more body, and it keeps the tablecloth pattern for showing from outside. It was supposed to be a temporary solution, but that's been 10 yrs ago, so it may have become permanent by now! laurie

  28. Soooo clever. I love it!!! Of course now there will be a run on check tablecloths and we won't all be able to get them. Shhhhh

  29. You are so creative! I love the idea of using the tablecloths for draperies. I have a question; I noticed you have about 5 pillows on your sofa and I have bought 2 pillows and recovered 2 more, but I'm not sure if that is quite enough pillows for my sofa. I have a 6 ft. long sofa and I noticed yours is shorter than mine and you have 5! What do you think? Should I go with 7 or is less better? Maybe I should say "What would you do?" Thanks for any help. :)
