How To Make Faux's Look Real

I love my faux's, however I do want them to look real.  Since I use them all the time, I've come up with a couple of tips and tricks to make them look more like the real thing.

First of all, pick a flower that would be in season.

Buy enough to fill the container you plan on using so your arrangement doesn't look skimpy.

Examine the petals and leaves to make sure they are shaped just like nature shapes them.

Thick stems look more real than thin ones.  Be sure to cut each stem off of the bush so you can arrange them in a natural way.   Use a container that camouflages the bottom of the stems, but shows how they would naturally fall in an arrangement.

That's about it.  Place them in a beautiful vignette and enjoy.

This is two bush stems that I found at Michael's on sale.  Flowers - $7 and DIY container - free.

How do you make your faux's look real?

They really can be quite lovely and save you some money over the long run. I just recently heard something about using faux flowers...if it will be touched go real and if it isn't to be touched go faux!

  7. Such a pretty tulip arrangement you've created! I love faux florals too. I think the best tip you've given is to cut the "bunch" of stems apart and display as they would fall naturally. I used to try to use the whole bunch together and you just don't get the same look. Thanks for sharing!

  8. Great tips Marty! I also gently shape them so they have the most realistic look. A little help with bending and making sure the leaves are positioned right.

  11. There are so many pretty faux options out there these days. I have used a combo of real and faux and you would never be able to tell the difference when looking at them.
