Giving Readymade Drapes A Custom Look

I bought a pair of Lenda drapes from Ikea, they are simple white linen look drapes.  I've seen these used in so many pictures just as they are and also customized.  There are so many creative people out there and they have taken these plain simple drapes and turned them into all kinds of masterpieces.  I think I want to do some kind of trim or something on mine, so I looked on Pinterest for some inspiration.  I couldn't believe how much there was to see.

I love the idea of adding a fabric band at the bottom or at the top.

Here's another idea using fabric, in fact I saw quite a few.

A band of fabric going down the side of the panels looks amazing too.

I think this was done to coordinate with this toile fabric used elsewhere in the room.

Even simple ribbon stripes look amazing.

Again wide strips of fabric.  This can be really dramatic.

Stenciling a pattern is also really popular.  This is so pretty.

This stencil looks so elegant.

Then I also remembered these dot painted drapes that I saw on Hunted Interior

I could definitely do that, it would tie in with the dot and dash walls that I painted for our Master Bedroom Closet Makeover.

See what I mean, there are a ton of fabulous ideas.  I think I want to do something, just not sure what yet.

How about you, do you like to customize your drapes?

  1. I put a band of trim that featured a Greek Key design on my Lenda drapes. Then of course I recently did an applique treatment on a second pair. I can't wait to see what you do.

  9. Wow, I really like that one with the toile just going down the inside edge, Marty. I'm pinning that as a possible idea for our master bedroom. Those drapes even look a little like drop cloth in that picture which is what I was thinking of using as a seasonal set of drapes for our bedroom. I love the touch of toile though and that would tie together some of the other toile I have going on in the room. Thanks so much for sharing this inspiration!

  13. Hi Marty,
Wow there are some really great ideas here...............love them all, but the ones with the fabric running downward in black were
stellar, they wouldn't go in my house but they really are so sophisticated looking, and the ones with the stencils on the burlap
were amazing too. Thanks for hosting your fun party every Tuesday, always enjoy being a part of it.
and hope this finds you doing well hon,
    Blessings, Nellie

  14. I'd have to say that I am a big fan of the drapes that have a different design at the base of the curtain, rather than all over. It can be super easy for fabric to be crowded by design work. Having a classy looking border design is really elegant and nice looking.
