I Went Shopping - Closet Organizing

I love to do a little retail therapy shopping now and again.  (Hubby probably thinks I do way too much of that.)  Not true, I am still on track with my new years savings goals, so this stays within budget.

My house has nice size closets in the bedrooms, however any other storage is practically nill.  I have the world's smallest linen closet, so I need all the help I can get.  I have one of these wire shelving units on my kitchen pantry door and it is a total lifesaver.  It practically doubles my pantry space. (Well almost)  So I thought I would look for one for the linen closet door.  Now my problem is size. That whole door is only 171/2" wide.  I know, I said it was the smallest linen closet in the world.

There are all kinds of these shelving systems in wider widths, but I only found one that was small.  One that is 12" wide will fit that tiny door just right and hold all kinds of things like toiletpaper, paper towels, light bulbs, bar soaps, shampoo, first aid supplies and so much more.

                                     Adjustable 12"wide 8 shelf unit

See that tiny door, that is our linen closet.  I told you it was small.

Ok, don't judge,  it is really, really small and it is really, really full too.  So first thing is to purge some of those linens.  Then to get organized.

The shelves are all adjustable, so I can't wait to set it up for my personal needs.  It should be here next week, so on to all the purging and cleaning.  Time to take everything out throw away what is worn or donate what I don't need anymore.

How about you, are you still in a cleaning & organizing mood?  Tell me your secrets for your linen closet storage, I need all the help I can get.

Be sure to get all of your projects lined up for Inspire Me Tuesday.  Party goes live Monday afternoon at 3 PM CMT.  Can't wait to see you there.

  1. I can't tell from the picture, but here is my tip if this applies. I added another shelf above my top shelf in almost all of my closets. It's up high, but perfect for infrequently used items. Opens up a lot of storage too! Have a great day!

  2. Hi Marty! I've been apartment living for the past 10 years and having to deal with very small linen closets (if I'm lucky enough to have one at all!). I totally can't wait to hear what the other readers come up with either ;-)

  3. Hi...I did the very same thing that Mrs B, above, did, and added a shelf on top and i place extra linen that i rarely use up there....I also did the same in another closet and i was surprised what i could store there. I bought your "hello" pillow and I love it...I mentioned you in my post : http://ppandorasbox.blogspot.com/2016/02/pillows-inspiration-from-marty.html

  5. I have been in the mood to minimize myself. It's such a nice feeling to be rid of the unnecessary and feel a bit lighter. Looking forward to seeing the "after".

  6. I am pretty sure our linen closets are related. Uh...seriously, if not for the different colors... also, I have four sleeping bags rolled up and crunched into the bottom. Words of wisdom for space, hmm...fewer towels is all I can think of. I have a few too many, I think.

  8. I can beat that, Marty! I don't have a pantry OR a linen closet!

  9. I read years ago to keep spare room bedding (sheets etc.) in a dresser drawer in the spare room, that frees up a bit of linen closet space. The drawers in a spare room are usually empty. Works for me!

  11. I have 4 sets of sheets, 2 for each bed. That means there are always only sets in the linen closet. I also have only 8 towels. DH and I use a towel twice and I wash towels once a week. That helps me keep our closet neat.

  13. Are you sure that is not my linen closet? I have one just like it and this year I told David I am going to paint the inside and make it look nice.

  14. Marty, good luck with your linen closet. I don't have any secrets to share about keeping linen closets organized, other than to periodically purge and get rid of old towels and linens that aren't used any more, store like things together (e.g. colors, bottom sheets all together, etc.), and be rigorous about putting stuff away in its proper place. That last one is the hardest one for everyone,I think... I know that it is for me.

  15. Hi Marty I wish you good luck with your new linen closet too! It is such a pleasure to finish this kind of reorganizing! You'll be pleased every time you'll open that door again! Can't wait to see the result!
