Ok, Tell Me What You Think - Which Fabric?

My $9.99 Louis Chairs saga continues.  I am down to the last decision on these chairs that I am redoing and having a hard time deciding what to do about fabric. In my previous post I showed you a couple of options.  Then I ordered this fun cowhide fabric and have narrowed down my choices to these two.  I cut a piece of each and taped them to the chairs to see which one. (They are just taped in so I know they have wrinkles, but you get the idea.)   Now I need some help.  What would you use?

I love this scroll fabric, but I think it makes the chairs look a little formal.  Not sure that is what I want.

This is a really fun faux cowhide fabric that has short hair like a real cowhide.  This is really funky and fun and not at all formal.

So what do you think?

Once I make this decision, then I am going to try my hand at making double welting to finish things off.  We'll see how that goes.

If you missed it, you can see how I stripped and stained these chairs and where we started here. They've already come a really long way from what they were.

  1. I vote for cowhide print. It's that unexpected but up-to-date look. Love your style. Teri

  2. Gees this is tough! I like them both. Somehow though the one on the left seems like a more enduring look but then animal prints are enduring too!

  3. Love the whimsy of the cow print!

The other pattern is chic. So that's the question, do you want whimsy or chic?

    Love them both! :)

  4. I just scrolled back and forth about 10 times. I don't think you could go wrong with either but I think I lean towards the one on the left. It just feels more timeless...I think...

  8. First of all, wow what a deal. And since you have a cowhide rug I am going with the cowhide fabric. I do love the scroll fabric too. I am no help whatsoever. ha Sheila

  15. Love the scroll fabric on the left. Timeless and you can do so much with it to dress it up or down.

  16. Reading your description of the two fabrics, it sounds like you really want the cowhide.

  17. Both look great but I like the scroll more! but with the cow, it looks perfect with your horses in the living room, kinda like a modern-praire feel!

  18. For ME and my tastes I love the left, but I like traditional best....not an animal print kinda gal..... but I know you are with your cow hide rug and all your touches of farmhouse - so that may be your best bet for you. But I adore the left one.

  20. It would be worth the air fare just to go to your GW store. You find such great pieces there. I can't believe the bargain on these chairs. They already look so pretty with the stain on them. Great job! This surprises me, but I love the hide on them. It's so contemporary. Both fabrics are beautiful, and whatever you decide will be great. Can't wait to see!

  21. You should pick the cowhide print. It is classy looking yet unexpectedly sassy at the very same time. Not to many things in life can be both classy and sassy at the same time. Cowhide fabric hands down.

  22. The cowhide ties in with your horse picture and your cowhide rug. Just the right amount of whimsy and whimsy is always necessary!

  23. The one on the left for sure! Just wonder if you would get tired of the cowhide although very cute.

  24. I love the 2 fabrics together! In the photo it looks like you might have the scroll fabric on other chairs so I'd go with the cowhide.

  25. I would totally go with the cow hide. The fun fabric juxtaposes the formal style of the chair. The chair is still somewhat formal but not as fussy.

  26. They are both classic and versatile. The scroll print is a bit more formal to my mind and an animal print is always a nod to a fun wild side. :D I don't think you could go wrong with either one. It is just what look to you want to introduce into your room? Good luck. I have faith you will make the right decision.
