I Am Finally Well & The Pool Is A Go

I finally feel like a real human being again.  In January I came down with a cold and it was rough.  Three weeks of sneezing, coughing and trying to breath that was so severe.  Hubby and I both down for the count.  Then the cough lingered for two more weeks.  Then I got the flu.  Cold chills, fever and more trouble breathing with tons of aches and pains.  I was in bed for two straight days without ever getting up to eat anything.  Just so weak and so sick.  Then little by little things started to get a little better.  This stuff is really not for the faint of heart, it is so rough.  Finally 3 months into all of this, I can breath, I don't cough all that much and I don't ache all over.   I hope you all missed out on this stuff, it really is tough.  So hopefully that will explain why I havn't been around to visit like I normally would.  I just haven't been up to it.  Now I am better and so onward and upward for sure.  Can't wait to catch up and see what everyone has been up to.  Now up to date on the homefront - - -

All the plans are finally drawn and the pool is going in.  We should be swimming in about 60 to 75 days.  I can hardly wait.

We had a lot of different styles to choose from, but we chose this one.   I love the big Bahama step as you enter.  Perfect for a couple of chairs or for the grands to play in a really shallow area.  We don't swim laps, but we love to have a good game of ball, so the size and shape of this pool allows for plenty of room for a net and a good game to take place.

I also like how it ties into the patio and we have plenty of room for a table and chairs or a couple of chaise lounges.

It will be so fun to see our yard go from this - - - -

I can hardly wait.  The temps have already been in the 90's so this is going to be such a great place to cool off when the really hot temps get here.

Now I need to go shopping for a swimming suit.  They will start the dig in about 2 weeks and then onward and upward from there.  I can't wait.

  1. Enjoy! I don't know what the temp in our pool is, but while it's warm enough to open the windows, I am not yet ready to swim.

  4. So sorry you were sick. I had the bug that hit my sinuses and ears. It lasted 5 weeks! No flu but it was miserable. I'm excited for you about the pool! That was my favorite design for your back yard!

  7. So sorry to hear you had that crud that is going around. It is miserable and hard to shake it entirely.

I am so happy for you that you are getting your pool. When I was in my early 30's and lived in California, we installed a pool and the girls and I practically lived in it. I sure had a nice tan those days LOL!

  9. Marty you sound like you had what I had, and you are so right it was the bad gift that kept on giving. I am just now not coughing like I was, but now it is allergy season here, go figure, still better than that awful bug. Glad you are out of the woods. Your pool area is fabulous and I know you will really enjoy using it most of the year where you live with your high heat. Love the layout and that big step is so nice, our son had that in his pool and it was perfect for sitting and staying cool while watching the kiddos. I had to go bathing suit shopping last year, Oh my. I shopped online and found some really cute one piece suits. Can't wait to follow along with the journey of the pool adventure!

  12. Beyond exciting, Marty!

I am so happy for you - definately need a pool living in the hot desert!

I am a swimmer (growing up on an island, it's natural, and I was a synchronized swimmer in high school) and would love to have a pool - but it makes no sense when it is only warm a few months here.

I am very happy to learn you're feeling better, too.

    Have a wonderful weekend.

    Still haven't found my pillows. I am soooooooooooooooo disappointed. : - (

  20. Glad you are feeling better. I have been sick since the middle of February because of allergies and high pollen count. We haven't had much rain in FL.
We are all excited to hear you are getting a pool. I am curious- do you tint the windows with darkening film to cut down on the heat?

    1. We have double paned windows and yes they do have a slight tint to them, then we also have shade cloth screens that help. This really does help keep the heat down in the summer inside.

  22. So glad that you are better!!!! How exciting about your pool.. Here in Memphis the summers are so humid! I would love a pool. Our neighbors behind us have one and I am telling you the splash of the water is so enticing! Enjoy!

  23. It's going to be so pretty, Marty....this is the setup I voted for, so YAY! I'm so glad you are feeling better. I'm sure that all the chaos and busy-ness you've had going on since you moved into your new home, contributed to how sick you got...we get tired and tend to ignore the early signs until we get kicked in the butt. Sounds like the voice of personal experience, doesn't it?

Well I hope you aren't affected by allergies, because all of the rain we've had has certainly made all of the pollen-producers extra exuberant... beautiful though!

Sounds like your pool will get finished in just the nick-of-time!
    Hugs, Carol

  24. Marty, you've been through a lot, but no one would have known, you carried off the Home Tour without a hitch and I know how much work that must have been. Glad you're coming out of the sickies and will be ready to have fun putting the pool together. It's going to be gorgeous!

  25. I hope you get lots of enjoyment from your pool. I noticed that swimming suits are out in full force right now in GA. Don't know if you have a Belk Store, but they had some gorgeous ones. Have a good day!

  26. Yay! I know you are going to enjoy it. I love the shape too! Cannot wait to see it finished and as it's coming along. Please share the process too. So fun!
