Master Bathroom Vanity Makeover Inspiration

When the kitchen was being remodeled we had a few leftovers, so the master bathroom got a couple of updates, but then things stopped there.

After the granite was cut for the kitchen, we had a piece big enough from the slab we bought leftover to do the vanity.  That was a huge improvement.  Pfister Faucet also gave me a fabulous new faucet, so the vanity got an immediate update for free.

This shows our original cultured marble counter that was chipped in a couple of places.

There was also some leftover flooring from the kitchen and family room, so we got to replace the really worn linoleum (you can see that in the above picture) with some great wood look floors.  This is NuCore from Floor & Decor.  It is waterproof, so perfect for the bathroom.

As we were finishing up the backsplash in the kitchen, we had a few pieces of the marble tile leftover, and it turned out to be just enough to do a backsplash around the vanity counter.

At this point, everything has been pretty much leftovers.  The vanity still needs to be addressed - it is really bad and worn builder grade off the shelf oak.  Time to do something about that.  I have gone back and forth a million times about staining or painting it.  I don't want to go white, but I am not sure what color if I paint and staining it would make it look just like the floor.

Here is what it looks like as of now - - -

The next problem is that mirror.  We looked at trying to take it down, but it is glued to the wall, so I need to figure out a way to frame it.  Once I decide on the color of the vanity then I will decide on the frame.

It has been way too hot to paint outside.  Even the garage is an oven, so getting the vanity painted was definitely put on the back burner.  However, September starts to cool down a bit and I might be able to get some painting done, so I need to get a plan going.

I am thinking I want to go black, not sure, but that keeps coming to mind.  I did find a few beautiful painted vanities on pinterest that I really liked.  Not necessarily the color, but the finish and glaze that gave them some really fabulous character.

This one that is madeover by Thrifty Artsy Girl is amazing.  She has the same builder grade cabinets that I have and look how gorgeous hers are after she painted and then glazed them.  She has a great tutorial too.

Fresh Crush shared a really great tutorial on how she painted her builder grade vanity.  I love the black color.

Fawn Design did a great tutorial also on how she painted hers.  I like the gray, maybe just a little darker shade.

I do have to admit this white vanity makeover is gorgeous.  This is the info I found for it.
What a difference a day and paint makes. Finished this bathroom vanity makeover today. General Finishes Antique White Milk Paint with Van Dyke Brown Glaze. #paintedcabinets #Roanoke - http://ift.tt/1HQJd81

I do like the way this one is distressed.  It is from an advertisement by Lowes.

I love this look from Designing Vibes.  I used gel stain on the cabinets in my last home hall bathroom and it was gorgeous.  Not sure if that would be too much like the floors or not.

When I redid the hall vanity in my last house, I used Gel Stain, and it turned out fabulous.  I still think this would look too much like the floors.

Remember, these are the floors.  What do you think?

  1. I am sure however you decide to finish the vanity it will look fabulous. I ended up painting the vanity in my guest bath and I am so glad I did. Your bathroom looks so lovely.

  2. One vote for the same creamy off-white as your bathroom door. I like the dramatic difference from your pretty flooring. I have the same mirror issue, so will be interested in your solution!

  3. Oh I LOVE the cabinet by Thrifty Artsy Gal. My second would be the gray cabinet or creamy white. Just a nice contrast to the dark floors. I too have a mirrored glued to the wall and plan to somehow get it off and then cover the wall with shiplap.

  4. I would do a classic white for sure. Your floors are quite dark and although I love black, I wouldn't do black with floors that dark. Judy M.

  6. My favorites are the black. If my vanity weren't solid cherry, I would redo it. So far I haven't worked up the courage to do it.I would also like to know the brand of candle on your vanity.

    1. It is one I found at Home Goods it says - Pecksniff's England Limited Edition - Festive Spice. It is such a pretty container and it smells good too.

  7. Grey would be perfect, in my opinion. A dark grey.

  10. I think I would paint the wood, as it looks so much like the floor. Just wanted to say, my apartment bathroom mirror was glued to the wall. The maintenance guy I hired managed to break it off with just two big pieces though.

  11. I see so many beautiful colors in cabinetry today. The great thing about paint is that you can paint it again when you so desire. I do love the black, but lately I am really loving the softer colors too. Black would certainly gain you a very dramatic look.

  12. I loved the grey- maybe just a tad darker - to tie in without matching - the granite and marble tiles. Can't wait to see what you decide.

  13. I am a little bias because I like white cabinets. The dark floor is throwing the colors off. The color should be somewhere between the vanity top and flooring. Cream ? Your vanity seems really long. Jealous. LOL

  14. How about a beautiful cream chosen from the granite and then add black hardware to tie in that great rug and add a bit of visual weight to the vanity.

  15. HI Marty! Well, I'm a real big fan of white but after seeing your photos of the black... Anyway, Diane's suggestion sounds nice. I know what ever you decide it will look fabulous.

  16. Looking forward to seeing what you choose. I agree with comments about choosing black, distressed dark gray or possibly cream. My personal preference would not be white.

  17. I vote for paint! You're right to want to avoid having the vanity resemble the floors too much. I wonder about perhaps choosing a creamy or grey color from the granite. You can always use your black accessories for drama and flair. Whatever you decide, I know you'll make it beautiful!

  18. Love the black with your new countertop! Nice! Can't wait to see the finished product!

  19. You've already made it look so much better without spending any money. I know you'll pick the perfect color to paint the vanity. Can't wait to see it.

  20. Love the black, it would be dramatic but might make the room seem too dark. However the white would look great too. I'm sure it will look wonderful whatever decision you make. Oh, love the floors! Have a great week.
