I
I don't think we all realize just how much we do until we stop and look back over the last year. I think the biggest project was the Guest Bedroom. It had been a storage space for some of my son's stuff for the last few years, so when he found a house and took all of his things, it needed to be completely redone.
First up was to give the room a good cleaning, shampoo the carpet and then paint. I picked out a soft camel colored beige (Fioli Antique Lace from Lowes) The room already looked 100 % better.
I had some leftover fabric from making the familyroom drapes and it was just enough to do two simple lined panels for the window. This is a small room, so I loved that the panels were in the same color family as the paint and just blended into the wall.
The bed was put in place and some new linens were purchased.
I found this comforter at Goodwill and bought the plaid fabric and made the dust ruffle. I like the two patterns together.
Starting to shape up. Now I know that the hosier and kitchen work table aren't supposed to be in a bedroom, but I didn't have any place to use them, so I decided to make them work. I decorated the room with a hunt theme.
My antique toy horse and some riding accessories for the top of the hosier.
The kitchen worktable makes a great nightstand on the other side of the bed. More antiques were unpacked and used to decorate with.
I found some more bedding at Goodwill that will work for a great change, so of course it jumped in my basket. A beautiful toile comforter and toile dust ruffle. Love the black and red, plus I also found a new lamp for the hosier.
The toile comforter reverses to checks, this is fun too.
Great summer look to change the room up a bit.
At the foot of the bed I placed my antique butter churn in the corner. Next to it is the lawyers bookcase with a lot of my dad's antique woodworking tools. A chair and it's done.
When my son called to say that he would be coming down from Oregon to work for several months and could stay with us, I needed to make a more comfortable work area. The top on the hosier pulls out to make a spacious desk area and a trip to Goodwill again for a nice comfy office chair was just what I needed.
While I was at Goodwill, I saw that they had all of their TV"s on sale for $1. Now who in the world ever heard of a dollar TV. I wanted a flat screen to go on top of the bookcase, however for $1, this 20" one was practically new and just the right size to sit on the butter churn. Perfect for now so he will have his own TV.
It was wonderful to get all the antique pieces out of storage and into use and I think the room turned out great. Totally unexpected and so fun.
I think this is the last project for quite some time., now I am just going to enjoy everything for a while.
