Favorite Things Sat. - Antique China Cabinet

Today I am joining my wonderful friend Laurie @ Bargain Hunting and Chatting with Laurie for Favorite Things Saturday. Be sure to visit her and find a list of all the participants. Such wonderful eye candy to see.

When I showed my collection of antique clocks, some of you asked to see what the mantel clock was sitting on. It's an antique china cabinet, dated 1880 England. I've had this piece since I was a brand new bride and it is definitely one of my favorite things. Now I know it looks full, but since it has mirrors on the back it magnifies everything, so there is only half of what you see. lol

This is the mantel clock you saw. Love the clock and I love the pretty carving on the top of the cabinet.

The carved columns that run down the sides of the door and the curved glass on the sides.

I love the heavy curved details of this cabinet and the pretty knuckle claw feet.

Can you see the double curve of the door and the glass?

So much detail that's hardly ever duplicated today.

I've spent a fortune having this baby crated to follow me through several states and moving, but to me it is worth every penny. I still love it.

Thanks so much for stopping by. I always look forward to your visits and hope to see you for Table Top Tuesday.

  1. That's a beautiful curio and you have so many lovely things to fill it with. I wouldn't want to leave it behind if I were moving either!

  5. Marty-I can certainly understand why this cabinet is one of your favorite things! Isn't it odd that some of our first purchases when we were all young and poor remain our favorite things :)? Even with the mirrors, I still think it's full :)....of beautiful things! Have a happy weekend!

  6. Marty it is a treasure. I can see why you love it so much. It's so true, they just don't make them like that anymore. I think the problem today is that there is no pride in craftsmanship like there used to be. I'll have to go visit Laurie to see other treasures.

  7. Marty,

Your cabinet is so gorgeous..I recognize some of your pieces that you have displayed many beautiful items in your collections! Thanks for sharing!

What experience it probably had before coming to you. And now the cabinet is surely proud that you love it so. Was very nice to see it. Thank you for showing. Johanna

Hope you have a great weekend, Marty!

  12. Well, Marty, I believe I have a relative to your china cabinet. Mine is chocked full of pattern and cut glass mostly from my MIL's collection. It is one heavy sucker. The glass shelves are so thick.
Right now, I can't stand to part with anything inside, but it truly needs to be thinned out. It is part of my retirement fund!

  13. Wow, your china cabinet is truly beautiful and full of wonderful treasures! Marty, thank you sooo much for coming over to my blog, I always enjoy your wonderful comments! Debbie @ Cottage Hann~Me~Downs

  16. Hi Marty!

That is an absolutely lovely piece! I can understand why you have move it all over! And everything insdie is so prety. I love the details. And you are so right, they just don't bother with all the beautiful extras any more when they make furniture. It's such a shame!

  17. Marty, this is absolutely gorgeous, the detail on these styles are just exquisite. I just so wonderful how much time the woodsman took to make each piece ... timeless beauty created.

    Have a lovely weekend.
    TTFN ~ Hugs, Marydon

  18. Marty it is absolutely gorgeous! I love the intricate carving and its luscious curves.

  22. Hi Marty! What a beautiful curio cabinet! So elegant and I love your clocks and other pretties! I spend a day just prowling around in this gorgeous cabinet!
    Be a sweetie,
    Shelia ;)

  23. Marty, this has just become one of my favorite things too! It is gorgeous! All of those beautiful carvings and that rounded glass! Wow! it is in such beautiful condition. I'm so glad you linked this beauty with Favorite Things. Thanks so much for joining and for your kind words. laurie

  24. Marty, your cabinet filled with treasures is beautiful. I like the curved glass and the carvings on this piece. Oh to open the doors and study each of the jewels inside. Thanks for sharing!

  25. What a fabulous piece! I love the curvy design and that you really can see everything inside it. Beautiful!

  26. Marty, that is one of the prettiest curio cabinets I have ever seen. I have my mothers and it is just crammed full of things like yours is. Sometimes when I look in it I sometimes am surprised at what I see...and think "Oh my goodness, I was wondering what I did with that!" :)

I went to garage sales today and found some real pretties. I see you love silver too...and polish it! :) My daughter and I have an ongoing thing about whether to polish or not to polish...she doesn't and I do! Ah well...

    Love and hugs,

  27. Marty, that china cupboard is fantastic! What a gorgeous oak beauty -- and what a treasure trove inside it, too --- lots of collecting and love in there.

You were one smart bride to latch onto that piece, and even smarter to keep it with you. It has real stage presence!

  28. How wonderful to have a date for your beautiful oak antique china cabinet and that it was from England. It is a lovely heirloom for sure. I can see why it is one of your favorite things because of its history before and after it became yours. Makes me think of the show," If only walls could talk."

    I enjoy your blog.

  29. Hey Marty,
It is a beautiful china cabinet! When I was a young bride I splurged on a couple of antique pieces that I fell in love with. I still have those antiques.. and I still love them.

  30. That is a fabulous piece of furniture! Just beautiful!

  31. My husband agreed when I showed him the picture...this piece is magnificent....we love curved glass china cabinets...

  32. Marty, you know how much I love this china cabinet. It's just gorgeous, and I would never leave it behind either. Such a perfect showcase for all of your treasures. Hugs, Kat

  33. My husband's grandfather collected clocks and we were willed one of them. It is nearly identical to yours except that where yours appears green, ours is a burgundy shade. We cherish that clock.

  34. what a beautiful cabinet, Marty. You have your items so well displayed. I can see why its a favorite of yours.

  35. It is absolutely gorgeous, Marty! What an intricate piece of work. That was one talented carpenter. It amazes me now that often when I look at furniture, it says it's made partially of MDF, or some such crappy thing. They just don't make them like they use to!

  36. Beautiful! Thanks for sharing the close-up on the curved doors, such an awesome detail. This would definitely be a treasured piece in my home too. Unfortunately, I have nothing to compare.

  37. What a beauty Marty!
You just can't find those wonderful detailed pieces much anymore....
You have quite a collection inside!
    A treasured piece for sure...
