Met. Monday - Redoing Thrifty Treasures - Crafting

Thanks so much to Susan @ Between Naps On The Porch for hosting another fun meme. Be sure to visit and see what wonderful things everyone has been up to.

This is a real potpourri of redo's and crafts. Just a fun few days. lol Last week I showed you a couple of treasures that I found at a garage sale. This is an old lamp that I got for 50c.

This shelf was also 50c.

Out came the Antique White Spray Paint and both got a make over. This corbel shelf also got a new paint job.

Much better.

Just a little distressing.

The corbel also got a little distressing.

Then I got really busy redoing a wall in the breakfast room. This is just a little sneak peak. You will have to come back on Tuesday for Table Top Tuesday to see the whole wall.

Even the corbel became part of the action on the wall.

The lamp I am going to use in the Living Room on the round table, the white paint gave it a whole new life. Now just to figure out what kind of shade. I'm not crazy about this one.

This style doesn't seem right either.

This is another shade I am trying for style, not the fabric, but I just don't think this is quite right either.

What do you think about this style? I guess I need to go shopping. Give me your opinion.

While all the paint was drying, I decided to try another craft that I saw here.
She showed how to make a fabulous topiary out of a paper ball and a stick from the yard. So easy. Basically just a ball made out of used printer paper and then taped together. Hot glue some moss all over it. Filled the pot with a piece of oasis, stuck the stick in, poked a hole in the moss ball, stuck it on the stick and added the ribbon. Free and fun.

This is my finished topiary. You just really do have to check out her tutorial, this was so much fun and didn't cost me a thing. Now you just know that a whole new vignette is about to happen. lol

If you are looking for some charming prints, there is a company called Art Prints For Kidz, they can be found I received these two prints that I am going to frame and give as part of my gift to a friend's baby shower. Check them out. Some really cute things.

Thanks so much for stopping by and please come back to see the new wall arrangement in the breakfast room. I really like it.

  1. I'm already thinking I'm going to love it! Great job. I really love those prints. I'm going to be doing a vintage-y nursery for a client next month- I'm going to check them out. Thanks, Marty!
    xoxo Pattie

  2. All of your projects are looking wonderful Marty.

    I love the prints.:-)

  3. I'm excited about all the projects you have going on.. Looks like you're off to a great start..

  5. Marty, you have been busy. Amazing what white paint does for things. Great finds! I think finding the right lamp shade is a difficult task. Good luck! It's out there.
The little topiary is great. I'm going to remember this. It looks to be easy.
    Thanks for sharing.

  6. Such great projects Marty...I love the shelf and corbel with white paint and distressing...the lamp looks wonderful ...I think the last shade you are thinking about looks great! I thought the first one was good too! Hope your Easter was great! Can't wait to see the "whole wall" on Tuesday!

    Miss Bloomers

  7. What a great corbel shelf, Marty! It looks great in white, too! For your lamp, I actually like that second shade on it. Maybe live with one for a couple of days and then change it out.

Your paper ball topiary came out much better than mine. I think I'm going to try changing the stick out for something a bit straighter. I think because my stick is bent it makes it look depressed.

  8. Hi Marty,
Great re-do's friend! You are always so creative and come up with so many interesting ideas. Josh, my son, just called me and said they felt the earthquake there in Phoenix. Did you feel anything? Pretty freaky!
Hope your Easter was a good one too.

  9. You are so crafty! The white paint made everything look bright and new. I like the 2nd shade...maybe dress it up some or cover it? Just a thought ~

The topiary is darling! That's something I think I need to try.

  10. Great redos! I really need to get busy on my list.

  11. Hi Marty! You're good! Love your refurbished things. Love how your lamp turned out. I'm not good at picking lampshards but I know you'll find the right one!
Love your topiary! You did great.
Hope you had a wonderful Easter Sunday.
    Be a sweetie,
    Shelia ;)

  12. What cute nursery prints! Your painted pieces look great. Be sure to stop by AtticMag this week for a Giveaway!

  13. Marty, love your projects! Can't wait to see that shelf reveal, too. I wonder if a burlap style shade would be good with that lamp?? I know you'll figure it out. Great buys! Linda

  14. Great transformations - I like the lampshade in the third photo. Happy Easter!

  15. Marty 50cents for a lamp!! That is amazing. Oh my what you gal's can do with a can of spray paint. I can not paint without drips and it always looks as if I spray painted it. Your projects look like they came that way and look great!! Great job my dear friend, Kathysue

  16. I really like all your transformations! I think I would go with the second lamp shade, the barrel shade. I like it. :) But, I
know how difficult it is to pick out a shade...I wish you luck! Also, the topiary is so nice and looks easy to make, thanks for sharing.

  17. I love all your re-dos/thrifty items spiffied up, but I especially love the prints--I used some very similar Beatrix Potter ones for my nursery and now daughter's room! I LOVE THEM@
    Hugs & HAPPY EASTER, Lana

  18. Oh I just have to laugh. I had that lamp in the 1980s when I was in college. It started out off white. Then I painted it a jadeite green. That freshened it up for awhile. Then I painted it bright red. It finally went to a yard sale a few years ago. It was a great lamp! If the cord has any green or red overspray on it then you bought my old lamp! LOL

  19. You've been busy, Marty! Fabulous job you have done on everything. Your talents amaze me!...Christine

  20. Hi Marty, what a wonderful job you did on all your fantastic finds...Kathy

  21. Marty, you got some great buys and did really good painting and distressing the shelf and brackett. I actually like the drum shade with that base. Can't wait to see your finished wall.

  22. You re-do's are just great Marty....wish I could go shopping with you!!!
    Have a great Monday....

  23. Great crafts! You've got to love spray paint - great distressing you've done too!

  24. What a busy little bee you have been! All the projects are cute and imaginative. The only way to know about a lamp shade is to take the lamp to the store and try it -- or bring home a bunch of lamp shades and return the ones you don't want.

Looking forward to your wall reveal tomorrow!

  25. Well, you know me and lampshades. I've got to add something to them. I saw one the other day that was decoupaged. It was gorgeous. I like the middle shade you showed for some reason. The one that is the same size all around. The other two seemed to echo the shape of the base too much. The one I mean broke up that shape some. Love the topiary!

  26. Marty,
I just love this post!!!!!! You bought some great little finds! I need to start hitting the garage sales....we are having one on the 17th here where I live, and it is also our craft show! Hope to see you there! :)

  27. Up to fun things Marty! Love all the re-do's! Busy bee!

  28. Marty you have been very busy creating some gorgeous accessories for your home. Way to go!

  29. I'm back for a second look at how you did your plates...I would love to do something like that in my bedroom...
Then the prints caught my eye..HOW cute those are! What a nice gift!
