Ideas for Changing the Family Room

This is what our family room has looked like for quite a while. The table top accessories have changed a dozen times, but the plaid sofa was always what I hated. Well that's going to be solved. This sofa is going to my son as soon as his new home is ready and I'm moving one in from the living room. So it's time to play.

Changes I want to make.
1. Bring in beige sofa from the living room.
2. Change existing drapes to hang straight on rings. (not tied back)
3. New color scheme. I'm thinking orange, blue and lime green.
4. Wicker chair is being swapped out for another leather one. (also from the living room)

Some of my ideas

I am crazy about orange all of a sudden and when I saw this fabric on someone's site recently it reminded me that I had some that I bought about a year ago. Sure enough I dug through my fabric stash and there it was. Lime green, and navy blue with this fabric looks so bright and cheery.

This is the drapery fabric and it's the same color as the sofa. The walls are a cream color.

Since I am using orange, yellow and lime in the living room and the kitchen/breakfast area, this helps everything to flow.

I really want to use some of my blue and white pieces in here. The picture above the sofa has blue in her dress and I have a rug with blue in it in the breakfast area.

So, what do you think? Any suggestions, critiques or comments?

Thanks so much for stopping by, I always appreciate your visits.

  9. ooooh where shall I start? There are so many possibilities, aren't there! I think you could go a lot more bold with the colours in there and orange, lime green and gold are wonderful choices. I am biases because my bedroom is orange and lime green. I love those colours, for some reason!! You need some BOLD accents. I love to go mad with curtains because they can always be changed, unlike carpets and sofas. Be brave, be bold and go for it. Think of all the fun you're going to have hunting down lamps and books and ornaments, dishes of sweeties, lighting and don't forget the Picasso!

  12. Well, how long are we going to have to wait for the changes?? I forget when your couch is going to your son. Can't you start switching things now? I wannnnnaaaa seeeeeeee!

  13. This is "fabulous"... I feel like we are sitting there on your sofa discussing it over coffee(I have my cup right here)...Isn't it you? that has those wonderful ceramic garden seats/stools that you spray painted? They would look fantastic with a plant on top or whatever, you decorate beautifully... Oh by the way, I LOVE your plaid sofa and hate to see it go! Hmmm I guess being Irish makes us WEAK for plaid(I wonder why, hehe)

  14. The first thought I had was "more color." That is exactly what you are doing and those colors are just swell. I adore lime green. Great fun ahead. Yes? hugs♥olive

  17. Hi Marty!
You have such a great sense of style that I don't think you'll need any help.

Can't wait to see the finished room. I love your choice of colors.

  18. Hi Marty, love the colors your are going to add in there. That orange fabric is yummy. Have you thought of maybe adding some color to the drapery panels. The wall color and drapes seem to be the same. The fabric you have is great either way. Just a thought. Can't wait to see it all done.

  19. Can't wait to see the after pics!! Your stuff always looks so fabulous~

  20. Marty, that sounds like a great color combo. You are going to feel like you got a completely new room! Can't wait to see the results. Linda

  21. Really love the orange fabric mixed with the green! What a fun room to transform, can't wait!

  22. so many people hate orange but I am one who loves it! That pillow is gorgeous and I can't wait to see what comes next. How fun!

  23. I'm crazy about orange. It's actually my "theme" color for this year. I love the bold colors of that fabric and think it will look wonderful.

I wish that I had a nice, simple, beige sofa in either our living roomm or den. It opens things up to so many possiblities.

  24. Hi Marty, I thought I was following you, but I wasn't!! Now I am. At any rate you asked for opinions. I think you should stick with one citrus color, orange, and leave the lime green as a tiny accent color. I wouldmt put it as a pillow next to the orange one. I would use it in an accessory like a green glass vase. I think the pop should belong to one bright color. Otherwise I think you have thought it out correctly! Just my opinion in trying to visualize your new scheme!

  25. It will be such fun watching the transformation. I've never done much with orange, so I'll love seeing the different ways you use it!

  26. I love the oriental fabric. I think the lime green looks spectacular with schema, whether as an accent pillow or punch of color in another manner. Looking forward to see what you do.
