I saw huge lines at the GW after Christmas, so I thought maybe they had a ton of good stuff. I found some great treasures, plus it was senior day so everything was 25% off.
I love books and this one is probably the nicest one I have ever found at GW. It is leather and in perfect brand new condition. Huckleberry Finn, how fabulous is that.
I think the front of the book is gorgeous with the beautiful gold picture and border.
And the back is just as beautiful. I love it. A STEAL for $7.99 less the 25% so only $5.99.
I like brass and this little planter with the cute little feet will be so fun to use anywhere, and for $1.49 it had to come home with me.
I love the colors of this shawl. It is huge and so soft. Paisley is one of my favorite patterns. It was $1.49.
I have tons of silver and I actually have 6 trays. Some that are mine from years ago, then my Mom's and my Mother-in-laws, but none as large as this one, it's Turkey size. So I had to have it for $7.49.
Have you been out thrifting yet? Thanks so much for stopping by, I always look forward to your visits.

Hi Marty, Huckleberry Finn is one of my son's favorite books---what a beautiful one you found! I love thrift store shopping. It feels go good to get something that you really love and need at a fraction of the cost.

ReplyDeleteI just went thrifting yesterday. But my Picasa is not working so I can't post photos until I find another way to add photos to my blog. But I love your tray and that shawl is wonderful find.
ReplyDeleteIf I thought my GW would have silver...I'd be there! Love that platter Marty!
ReplyDeleteBe glad you bought the Chuck Finn book....where I live they are all up in arms because all Tom Sawyer and huck Finn books from now on will be sensored and language changed to be politically correct!
The Mark Twain museum in Hannibal MO is not happy...fyi
I love that book Marty!
ReplyDeleteAnd that silver tray too!
Great finds and I am waiting until i get there next week!
Hugs,
Cindy
Love the books, Marty! I was just going to say what Anna, above, said. I just read today about them changing words out in the Huck Finn book; so be glad you have an untouched story.
ReplyDeleteGreat thrifting day for you!! My favorite is the silver Horse Show platter... the engraving makes it special! Why would somebody give that away??
ReplyDeleteI am so impressed with your shopping spree. I have not had any luck at our GW so far. That silver tray is awesome and I love the books. Enjoy.

You sure hit the Jackpot or I should say SilverMine with that amazing silver tray. I remember when items like that use to be such treasured pieces to win at horse shows and rodeos. Great to see you prospering in the GoodWill New Year!
ReplyDeleteAll treasures! My fave is the silver platter! Does it say 1962? It is even older than I am!!!
ReplyDeleteMarty,
ReplyDeleteWhat amazing bargains you found! Oh how you taunt me with your book finds. . .did I tell you how I love old books. . .especially those with numbered series! Lucky you!
I'll be watching for you to show how you'll use that silver tray. Although, I have an idea it might become part of a tablescape with that paisley brown shawl. Only time will tell!
thanks for sharing all your bargain finds with us!
Fondly,
Pat
P.s. Today, I took 6 boxes to our local Thrift Shop! The ladies were already ohing and ahing before I finished unpacking my car!
Wow, Marty, you had some serious fun. Love that tray!
ReplyDeleteCAS
You really got some great finds. I have to find a way to get out without the hubs so I can really look. The thrift shop in our area is so crowded and small but I have found some neat stuff.
ReplyDeleteHi Marty! I love all your thrifting finds, especially the scarves, they are beautiful! And the book...wow!
ReplyDeleteI went thrifting with my mom on New Years Eve only to learn that Goodwill has a big 50% off sale on the 28th, 29th and 30th...so by the time I went there was nothing :-(
But there's a whole new year of thrifting to look forward to isn't there?
Nice finds, really like the silver tray. What is GW?
ReplyDeleteThose books look fantastic. I love a good thrift excursion.

Oh Marty what wonderful treasures you found! I went thrifting at Goodwill(GW)a few days ago myself and found some great things for next Christmas!!
ReplyDeleteI'm already getting the itch to go again, even though I really need to retire a lot of stuff I already have first. I've already donated about two trunk loads but still have more that either needs to be donated and sold!
I found a few items and will show them for my JFF party. Thanks for joining in! I love the shawl and the Mark Twain book is awesome.
ReplyDeleteWhat neat finds! I love thrifting and used to feature my finds on the blog, but haven't been since mid-December (and my blog format has changed).
ReplyDeleteThose things aside, a quick story regarding the set of books you bought: I once stayed at a small inn in northern Illinois where Somerset Maugham had stayed for a summer some years ago, finishing a book he was working on at the time. I have no idea what book it was, but wouldn't it be neat if it was one of these?
Wishing you happy continued adventures (thrifting & otherwise) in 2011!
Great finds...
ReplyDeleteHope you're enjoying welcoming the new decade.
Best wishes...

G'day Marty ~ What lovely finds. So love that scarf & tray! Catching up on the past days with you ... mercy! I love that cabinet full of silver ... I see lots of beautiful vignettes creating ... just sayin'!
ReplyDeleteYou have the magic touch for beauty in your home, Marty ... next time ...
TTFN ~
Hugs, Marydon
I have been thrifting and came home empty handed. :(
ReplyDeleteI have to say I am absolutely thrilled that you will be joining me on the carriage ride destined for Royal Wedding Wednesdays. When I hit the "publish" button I had a momentary feeling of panic that my post would be met with only the sound crickets chirping. It has been quite the opposite, so much so that I feel we have a kindred spirit/sisterhood sorority.
Here's to fairytales!
Good evening, Marty...
ReplyDeleteI must tell you how much I enjoy your blog. We have many things in common. I am your newest follower and hope you will consider following me.
Blessings,
bcp
The shopping fairies were smiling on you, Marty. I never think to look at the books.
ReplyDeleteGreat finds. You must have lots of wealthy people nearby who favor goodwill. Our goodwill is awful it is mostly junk that smells.
ReplyDeleteHugs, Ginger
Marty, great finds! It's funny that you bought Huckleberry Finn, because I just wrote about that book (and Tom Sawyer) on my blog today....about at least one publisher "editing" some of the words in it...Please stop by, but only if you want to!! :)
ReplyDeleteLove your finds! No, I haven't been thrifting. I have a bag to bring though.
ReplyDeleteI think books will become like typewriters. People use kindle etc, so soon will kids know what a book is? Nothing replaces holding it in your hand, I think! And I never have to worry about my battery going dead. Well...I do, but then I won't have to worry about reading! :)
oh wow, what a gorgeous copy of Huck Finn!
ReplyDeleteI just got a gorgeous hard back copy of Gone with the Wind today for $2. I have to get pictures of my newest goodwill purchases and get a new post, i have a TON of new stuff from Goodwill I am dying to post about!
Fabulous deals Marty-The shawl is a beautiful pattern and the silver tray is a great size-There's nothing more satisfying than a good day at GW!!-Claire
ReplyDeleteGorgeous shawl!
ReplyDeleteGREAT finds!
ReplyDeleteThat Huck Finn book is so cool!
Have a pretty day!
Kristin
We share a passion for beautiful, leather-bound books. That was one is a beauty! So I have decided that this year, we will all gather at Marty's house and go to her junking sources. Cause yours are the best around. (well, maybe Debbie's is a tie) but today your scored!!! :) Hugs, Barb
ReplyDeleteMarty,

Thanks for stopping by Stuff and Nonsense!
Hi Marty!
ReplyDeleteThe only thrifting I've done lately is for back to school clothes for my daughters. They love, love, love GW since they can get many name brands and like, way cool stuff, for like, way cheap.
I woulda fought you for that silver tray, if you were rolling down the aisle at the same time as
me ;)
HUGS!
