I found a cute bunny at GW for $1.99, however, it was all black and I sure didn't want black, but it was a great piece to try and recreate into something fun.
Next, out came my old standby of Min-Wax Walnut stain and I lighted coated then wiped off the entire piece.
In the places where I lightly sanded, I was able to rub the paint and stain off, leaving some of the black showing for a shabby look. I was able to wipe quite a bit off in various places all over the bunny.
I love some of the black showing through in various areas. Gives him more character.
I am so thrilled that his nose and whiskers show up black and the tips of his ears.
A fun project and I have a very unusual bunny.

Very cute, Marty! I don't think I've seen any bunnies yet in either of the thrift stores I go to. I would snap them right up if I did, I'm such a bunny nut!
ReplyDeleteI have a bunny just waiting for this specialness. I'm starting to love this spray paint stuff. Then you just add your magic so it looks like you paid a fortune for it. Awesome talent.

What you have is called TALENT. And it's very kind of you to share the "how to" with us. I would never have thought of sanding it after to let some of the black show through.

I love bunnies - aka rabbits! This one is definitely a keeper. I have a bunch of white ones I only put out in the spring - I love that this guy equally fits in during Fall. You have made me think about digging out the Easter box and digging them out. I would tie a little tartan ribbon around his neck for Christmas. He's Adorable!
