Best Pecan Pie Ever

I know everyone always talks about Southern Pecan Pie, but if you havn't had a piece of  Texas Pecan Pie, then you have missed out.

This recipe is one my mom copied out of a newspaper in 1938.  The article was talking about all the fabulous pecan trees in Texas and how this was voted the Best Pecan Pie recipe ever.  This pie won Blue Ribbons at several County Fairs, and was later published in dozens of cookbooks.

I wish I had the article, however, all I have is this card where my mom copied off the recipe for me.  I love seeing her handwriting as I make some of her favorite things.

This was the dessert we had for Mother's Day.  I love the pie and I love the sweet memories of my mom.

I hope you will try this recipe, I am sure you will love it too.

I am linking to Rattlebridge Farms for Foodie Friday

This is "Mr. Ed's" favorite pie EVER!!!

  11. Marty,

It looks delicious (and I'm not just saying that because I'm so very hungry as I desperately try to lose some weight) ...

And I love that your mother's handwriting brings back such fond memories ...

  12. I can only think of three words...YUM, YUM, YUM!!!

  13. I'll have to try this. I'm always being told to make pecan pie more often!

  14. Oh I love having recipes in my Mom's handwriting --it makes them so special. And Pecan Pie is my very FAVORITE food in the entire universe; that's why I don't make it -- I'd EAT it!
I'm saving this recipe, though. I make walnut pie at Thanksgiving, and I'll try this recipe for that instead of the Fannie Farmer one I usually use. I'd love to incorporate another "heirloom" recipe in my menu!

    All the best ... Cass

  15. My husband would love this. Pecan pie is his weakness.

  16. My hubby's grandma made the best pecan pie ever. This looks very similar. Yum!!

  17. Looks delicious, Marty! Do you serve it with a topping -- cool whip, whipped cream? I usually do whipped cream, but will only make pecan pie at Thanksgiving.

  18. Looks great, I saved the recipe Marty! I also have the cream/meringue pie, planning to make that soon:@)

  19. I will put this into my recipe book. I have never made a pecan pie. Your mom and my mom had very similar hand-writing and I love to look at her hand-written recipes, too. I did up a book for each of my kids 3 Christmases ago of all my favorite recipes and hand wrote them. They really appreciated that. Nice post, Marty. Have a good weekend. Hugs, Deb

  20. Oh my girly that sounds yummy! :-) I can't wait to try it out...I LOVE pecan pie!
I really did find some great finds and I was thrilled with my little washtub caddy and pyrex bowls! I felt quite blessed that day. :)

  21. Marty - Your pie looks delicious. I know what you mean about handwritten recipes. I have some of my mom's. I plan to xerox them sometime and make recipe books for the grandkids. Pecan pie is a favorite of our family at every Thanksgiving dinner.

  22. Such beautiful handwriting on that old recipe, what a great memory! That pie looks delish!

  23. older reipes do seem to be best don't they? I have a few recipes my mother-n-law wrote out & they're precious to me

  25. Marty,

These are my favorite sorts of recipes to read on blogs, the ones with a history/

My favorite recipes are the ones that I have handwritten by my grandmother. Seeing her handwriting makes me smile.

  26. Hi Marty
Your pie is making me so hungry right now. It looks so delicious. I have never had luck making a pecan pie but I have to try this recipe.
Thanks for sharing it with us. I posted my Mama's Blackberry Cobbler recipe today. Something I rarely do is post recipes but aren't they fun to do.

  27. Marty, I've just copied this down. I Love your mother's handwriting. So reminiscent of the times.

  28. Hi Marty. I love finding things in my mother's handwriting too. I have old books of hers where she wrote in the margins. Anyway, I have never had pecan pie for one reason only. I know I would love it and then I wouldn't ever be able to pass it up. But, I'm going to make this pie. It sounds wonderful. I don't think I'll try it, but I'll have fun serving it.

  29. I think I have this recipe from Dear Abby, the actual newspaper article, very yummy!

  30. Good Morning Marty:

I have just written out the Pecan Pie recipe. It looks so easy and good. If it won a Blue Ribbon contest. . . . it must be special. I also love your tender thoughts about reading your moms recipe from her handwritten card. Nothing more special than that Marty!
    Have a great weekend.
