Mantels and Shelves

I don't have a fireplace, so this is kind of like my mantel that I change around a lot.  I thought it needed a few changes for the summer months,

This is a huge shelf, it is 18" tall, so it is definitely a focal point.  The only problem is the shelf part is only 4" deep, so I am really limited as to what I can put up there, plus there's the ceiling, so it can't be too tall.

This has been the look for quite a while, so time to switch out a couple of things.

Some things stayed, but I did add a little more color.

The orange rooster cache pot added a little cheerfulness to this end.  The duck tureen stayed.  It is small enough to fit on the shelf and I love it.

A couple of green birds replaced a couple of items that were previously there.  Just looks more summer to me.  The fruit, pedestal roo and artichoke stayed.  I love the character they add.

Now everyone needs an orange rooster and I think mine is just way too cute.

That's it, just a few different items and it does change the  look.

I love the addition of the orange, it ties in with the dried hydrangeas in the basket and the center of the sunflowers on the table.  Bright and cheery for summer.

So, are you still making a few changes for the summer months?

  1. Your shelf and goodies look wonderful. Love the rooster....

  2. Marty,
Subtle, yet definite change on your "make shift mantle" are stunning! Yes, dear friend, change is constant here on the Prairie! But for the next few weeks, I'll be working on the lower level to complete a few projects! Stay cool!!!

  3. looks good, I have a new problem, I am actually really liking what I have now and don't want to change it....but fall and Christmas is coming so I am going to have to put some new treasures away for a few months when that gets here!

  4. Wow! Love the mantle! You have decorated it so lovely and fun. Great job.

  5. It is always good to change up..and dust...I have been fiddling with cloches...I wonder why?

  6. Marty,
What a beautiful shelf.Love how you changed it.Although it looked fab before too!Yep I love changing things around.Winter, summer, spring does not matter.I need to change my mantle too!

  7. This is so pretty, Marty! I'm making some changes too. I have had patriotic mantels that I have to change to summer. Thanks for the inspiration!

  8. Love those plates! What is the pattern and hope you can post a closeup of it some time.

  9. Love how you decorate your shelf. Even though we have a mantle, ours is very narrow, so it is sometimes difficult to display very many things.

  10. Pretty changes Marty! I love those sweet little white pitchers you have hanging!

  11. Your shelf looks just beautiful. I love all the changes for the summer.

  12. What a pretty shelf Marty- I am surprised it is only 4 inches deep it looks much deeper with the items you have displayed- which are arranged wonderfully of course! Love the cup hooks- great way to have more space to hang things! I put a ton in my china cabinet when we temporarily moved to a small 1100 sq foot home while getting ready to go into full time ministry. It is amazing how much stuff I could get in that cabinet! Looked so cute too!

Hope all is well with you friend! Looks like you were a big help to Laura at her cleaning party. That was a great idea and bet it was fun even though you were working hard.

  13. Looks lovely, I love the milk jugs hanging down.

Speaking of it being close to the ceiling, I remember trying to be romantic one night, setting up candles on top of speakers that were a little too close to the roof, lovely dark patches all over the ceiling!! OOOOPS

  14. That's such a pretty shelf! I was doing swimmingly fixing and changing until I broke my darned ankle!

  15. Pretty changes, Marty! I love your duck tureen and I think I'd keep it there all the time, too. It seems happy and works, so why mess with that! : )

  16. I love shelves, and certainly understand how hard it can be when they're only 4" deep. Your shelf looks great, you handled that 4" very well!!

  17. The shelf looks wonderful! You did a great job on those 4-inches! Thank you for sharing your creativity at Potpourri Friday!

  18. I love the changes Marty, they are really beautiful. Love the pitchers.
