Super Bowl Party-Won Tons

Since all of my family is coming over for a Super Bowl Party, I thought I needed to beef up the snack menu.  One of the things they love and I only make about once a year is Won-Tons.

Brass and Bronze

It's funny how finishes go in and out of style.  Seems like we all had so much brass in the 80's and early 90's that we got really tired of it.  That always amazes me since we don't seem to have ever grown tired of Bronze or Gold.  I think as far as color goes, Bronze is just kind of tarnished Brass.

I like Brass and Bronze and always have, so I am thrilled that Brass is making a great comeback.  You see it everywhere.  Designers are pulling out all the stops with lamps, tables, chests, and even chandeliers again.  So if you still have some, now is the time to pull it out and use it, and by all means mix it with your Bronze.

I love swapping lamps around for a really subtle change in a room. While I was dusting this week, I had the urge to pull out the brass lamps and use them for a while.

I found both of the white lamps that I have been using for quite a while at Goodwill and I have totally enjoyed them.  Classic Ginger Jars, so they will always be in style and of course white is always wonderful, however a change is fabulous once in a while.

It's hard to tell in the photo, but the minute I added the brass lamps, the room immediately looked warmer.  I didn't change shades, just used the same ones that were here before.  I did do a long post showing all kinds of different lamps and shade combinations here.  It really is interesting how different a room can look with just a simple lamp change.

The white lamp

and then the brass one.  A little vignette change is always fun too.  Did you notice the bronze of the mirror frame, the brass lamp and the gold accents on the pictures.  I think they all look fabulous together.

I actually have a lot of brass in this room.  The swan is placed on a gold (brass) colored charger, tarnished brash candlesticks and of course my gorgeous  Fabrege eggs.  I just adore the warmth and sparkle they add to the room.

Super subtle change and I am probably the only one that would ever notice, however the feel of the room is definitely warmer.  So pull out your Brass and mix it with your Bronze and Gold and have some fun.

Tell me, are you going to enjoy Brass this time around or are you still not ready?

Let's Have A Cloche Party - Winter Cloches

We havn't had a cloche party in a while, so I think we need to have one to show off all our winter vignettes we are creating after the Christmas decor came down.  Here are a few that were shared last year, tons of fun inspiration.

Decorating with Bread/Cutting Boards

I love a challenge and Our Fifth House is challenging us to create something we saw  on Pinterest as our inspiration.  I thought this vignette of cutting boards would be fun to do, since I have some fun ones to play with.

This pretty image is from  Winding Vine that I found on Pinterest.

Both of these wonderful cutting boards or breadboards as some call them are antiques that were gifts from a dear friend.  These are so special to me and always bring back precious memories of antiquing trips together.

Dining Table - Let's Stretch It Out

If your family is like mine, with everyone's work schedule and then all of this flu and cold mess that has been going around, getting everyone together is a three ring circus.  We kept trying to get together Friday - Saturday and Sunday.  Didn't work.  Then all of a sudden Monday morning since it was a holiday, everyone could come over around three.  Ok, now I am on notice and I need to get something together for lunch/dinner in a hurry.

Most of the time, my breakfast table doesn't have any of the leaves in it and is just a wonderful big 54" round table.  But when I need it, it does have four 16" leaves that I can insert and it will seat 12.  I am thrilled that this area is big enough for me to expand the table when I need to. (obviously this is a picture from Christmas.)

Bookshelves & Books-Tips & Ideas

I love to see books used in all kinds of places.  Obviously we all love them on shelves and bookcases, but I love them too as great tools to elevate any kind of item to display it better, just laying around on tables ready to be read, or any number of places.

Antique leather books are the most prized treasures, but finding books with great colored covers is always fun too and can be a real decorating bargain.  You can find these at Goodwill or Thrift stores for pennies, and they can make a big impact in your decor.

I wanted some red on the shelves in this bookcase, so having a couple of red bound books and a few with some red in their bindingss, helps to incorporate the color.

Living Room- After Christmas

Do you feel like you need to do a ton of really deep cleaning when you take down all the Christmas.  I think that's because I have so much "stuff" out that I just clean through the middle.  So when it is all finally put away, it is nice to have something simple and easy and a really clean room.  Since my living room and dining area are all one room, I really need to try and get the whole area done at once.  Finally done, and it looks so much fresher.

Trying to decorate the living room after Christmas is sometimes a real challange, but not this year.  I didn't change out the color scheme, all I did was remove Christmas and call this Winter. (Kind of cheating I know, but then I didn't have red as my Christmas colors, so that was cheating in the first place.)

150th Table Top Tuesday

A milestone for sure.  Today is the 150th Table Top Tuesday.  I can't thank you all enough for all the fabulous links and inspiration you share each week.  Always tons of eye candy and beautiful displays.

We again had some unreal links last week and here are just a few for you to drool over.

Carol's Heirloom Collection created this really wonderful vignette in her hutch with all kinds of cookbooks and baking pans.  So fun and you will definitely want to go bake something.

A Cozy Place Called Home shared this gorgeous tablescape with such beautiful things and precious memories.

Don't you just love this dish garden that Home is Where The Boat Is created in her potting shed.  Cute or what?

Now isn't this just the cutest copy-cat idea you have seen in a long time.  Remodelando la Casa gives us complete instructions.  Love it.

Two of my favorite things, cloches and silver, so how could you not love this wonderful tray vignette that Chateau Chic shared.  She decided to keep the silver out and use in some of her vignettes, they are all gorgeous.

This is such a beautiful tablescape designed by Cozy Canadian Cottage.  I love the centerpiece with the vine wreaths and the rustic star.  You need to see her hutch too.  Beautiful.

Don't you just love this fun and rustic "Moose Lodge" tablescape that Olla-Podrida designed.  Love the stick deer and moose too.

Such a pretty Valentine's tablescape that At the Farmhouse shared.  Don't you love the candy canes arranged as heart.  How clever is that.

Sharing Shadymont has designed some of the prettiest Valentines vignettes.  You definitely have to go see everything.  Tons of eye candy and inspiration.

This tablescape by Crystal Grandeur is so filled with memories and sunshine.  Doesn't it just make you happy to look at it?

Namely Original is a brand new blogger and shares this wonderful vignette and a tutorial on how to age books.  Be sure to go by and welcome her to blogland.

So much to see and so much inspiration.  I love all of your links and your ideas and displays constantly amaze me.  So, let's see what you have for this week.  Remember any table top display qualifies.  Any surface you can creat a display becomes a table top, so show us everything.

After Christmas Thrifty Buys-Christmas Decor Ideas

I didn't do a lot of after Christmas shopping, but I did make a trip to Tuesday Morning and found a couple of things that I love.  I really wanted one of the feather trees that I kept seeing everywhere, but they were so expensive that I just passed.  The cheapest one I saw was around $30 and that was not in my budget.

I was so thrilled when I found these three treasures.

Blog Tip - Adding Networked Blogs

I originally ran this post in August, but I had a couple of people contact me and ask for the instructions again to add the Networked Blogs App to their blog sidebar.  Such an easy way for anyone to follow you.  So here it is again for those that missed it.

Networked Blogs- - - - - There are a lot of new blogs out there that don't have any way for us to follow except through a RSS feed or email.  I really love to follow a blog and get all their updates right on my blog dashboard.  It seems that a lot of people aren't aware of the Networked Blogs app, so I found a super website that explains how to add this feature in such easy terms that anyone can do it.  It is connected to your facebook page, so it works for any blog.  Kind of a really blurry pic, but that's the best I could do, it is not easy to copy.  You can see mine on the sidebar.

This is a youtube video that shows exactly how to add this feature to your blog.  Great tutorial and he shows every step.

Here are more sites that give complete instructions.

Since Google Friends Connect doesn't support the new .com or .net blogs, this is a great one for newcomers to add.  It is also a super one for those on Wordpress to add.  Just makes it so easy to click a button and follow right on the dashboard and that way you see a new post every time it comes up without having to weed through a long list of emails.  At least it is easier for me anyway.

Guest Bedroom-Making Room for One More

When you have a small house you know all about space challenges, so you have to be creative sometimes in order to have one more as an overnight guest.  So coming up with Guest Room Ideas, or a make shift Guest Room can be a challenge.  Some times you have to think outside the box.

My son is here from Oregon for a few months working, so he is using our guest bedroom.  Jordy his son (my grandson) is living in Idaho for college, but has a break and is going to come down for 10 days, so where do I put him that isn't the couch and something that has to be redone every single day?

This is what you are use to seeing as my dining area.

Well, thank the Lord for versatile furniture, it is going to become his bedroom while he is here.

My table top folds in half and becomes a really narrow library table.  See, it is barely wider than the runner.

Slide all the chairs over, get out the air mattress and all of a sudden he has a bedroom.  Not very big and not the most private, but at least he's not in the middle of the floor or walkway and he does have his own space, plus the air mattress is more comfortable than the sofa.

We will all be spending most of our time in the familyroom, kitchen/breakfast area, so he can have the living room as his.

This will do in a pinch.

This is Jordy, remember you all prayed for him when he broke both legs in a race for the U.S. Ski Team two years ago.  When you crash going approx. 70 mph and your skies don't release, you really do major damage.  We are so blessed that he didn't hurt his spine or break his neck, but he did a real number on both legs.   They had to put two rods in each leg from the knees down to the ankles, and several pins to put him back together.  More surgery and lots of therapy and hard work and all our prayers were heard and answered, he is perfect.  Not able to ski on the U.S. Ski Team and he didn't make it to the Olympics, but he is not paralized, or crippled, so he is perfect and such a miracle and Blessing from the Lord.

This medical team is unreal, you can't even imagine what all they can do.

This became a second home for a while, but so worth it in the long run.

Here he is last summer at my daughter's house.  They had just gotten out of the pool.  Love that gorgeous smile.  No limp, no nothing.  When the Lord answers a prayer, he goes way beyond anything you can even hope for.

I am such a blessed grandma that I get to spend time with him.  He is so special.  So, I am going to be cooking tons of his favorites and enjoying every minute.
