I will have to say that I am just as pleased with my bathroom makeover done on the cheap, as I would have been with my inspiration bathroom. The inspiration room was quite elegant, and way more froo-froo than I am. Then when we ran into all the unexpected dental bills, I got a little nervous about spending any money, and tried to redo the room with what I could find around the house. I love it, which proves that sometimes you just have to back up, start again and use your imagination. To see my original post go
here. (Sorry for the shadows in the pictures, since there is no window, I had to bring in a spotlight to illuminate the room.)

In a previous post I also showed you how I antiqued the mirror with a little 24K gold paint and spatters of Minwax walnut stain. You can see that tutorial here.
The shower curtain is made from leftover fabric I already had that was used as the topper for the familyroom drapes. There is a second rod layered behind with a regular shower curtain. Both go to the ceiling which creates the illusion of more space and adds a little drama too.
Transferware dishes and a painting I already had add.
A favorite painting in an onate frame adds some unexpected glam. (It is actually a print and has non-glare glass over it which gives it the look of an oil. The glass will protect it from any moisture.)
I always look at Ross and TJMaxx for affordable towels and I found some really pretty ones to layer together. I kept the color scheme just gold and cream.
This pretty little art work I found at Goodwill some time back and it works perfectly in the bathroom.
Remember the builder grade medecine cabinet, I gave you a tutorial on how to remove it and patch the wall
here. I had already replaced the slab mirror with this one a couple of years ago, but it did need a facelift, the gold antique finish dressed it up for now.
The medecine cabinet gone and a towel bar and picture in it's place. So much better, don't you think? I also hung some of the new towels on the guest rod behind the door. (This is perfect when space is limited to hold extra towels when a guest needs them.)
So much better with the medecine cabinet gone.
The accessories that I had already ordered from Restoration Hardware arrived. They give the room an additional touch of class. (My new faucet is on backorder, it should be here in 3 to 6 week.)
I love the frenchy design in silver and gold
Isn't the apothecary jar stunning.
I think this looks pretty good for shopping the house and being totally cheap thrify. I made a tank topper tray that I will show you later, complete with a tutorial.

Glamour shot with the overhead light turned off. I love the shimmer of the gold.

From a jungle theme to - - -
this. So, what do you think, how did I do?
The finishing touch when the new faucet arrived.
Here's the breakdown of the costs -
Fabric I already had leftover from the topper to the familyroom drapes=0
Artwork that I found at Goodwill several months earlier=0
Paint for the mirror I already had=0
Touchup paint for the bathroom I already had.=0
Restoration Hardware accessories I had already ordered - $63.93
Things I bought and money spent -
Repair of the sheetrock where I took the medecine cabinet out=$21.04
New towels.=$24.63
Artwork from Goodwill above towel bar =$3.99
So all in all just over $100. I can live with that.

Your bathroom looks fabulous Marty! So much brighter with all the gold. LOVE the painting in the ornate frame!
ReplyDeleteI think it is a great improvement, quite elegant!
ReplyDeleteMarty, Your guest bath looks fabulous. I love the mirror revamp. The picture and towel bar look great in place of the medicine cabinet. Your shower curtain adds glamor too! You did great with your makeover!!
ReplyDeleteWell, it looks like you spent a million bucks, Marty ... love it!! The gold accents are beautiful ... love your RH accessories, too!
ReplyDeleteNice job, everything came together beautifully and it has a nice rich look to it!
ReplyDeleteI like the idea of using drapes for the bath area...from the floor to ceiling...I have a spate shower and tub in our main bathroom. I put a decorative rod across the length of the tub and draped a scarf curtain across to give warmth to an open above space, and a tad of privacy. As well as a little elegant feel. Yours looks great, and I want to try the drapes like yours! !
ReplyDeleteThat isn't a spate shower but separate shower (above) LOL..Gotta love it! lol
ReplyDeletelove all the gorgeous details Marty dear!!! That shower curtain too is just divine! Your mirror is amazing as well. :-)
ReplyDeleteI think I am in LOVE!!! I am going to bookmark this post so that I can refer to it when I get ready to do my master bath. I LOVE IT!!
ReplyDeleteKristie
Absolutely gorgeous!!!!! Love the shower curtain and the framed print....beautiful :o)
ReplyDelete~Des
applause.. you made beauty on a budget..
ReplyDeleteenjoy every moment in your lovely new bath.
Great makeover, Marty. The medicine cabinet gone makes the biggest change. I love the towel rack on the door. I need a couple of those.
ReplyDeleteHow elegant, Marty! I love all the new changes...especially the painting and transferware. The most dramatic change though, is the new picture and towel bar that replaced the medicine cabinet. I think TJ Maxx is my favorite place for new towel also...great value! Hugs, Penny
ReplyDeleteMarty it still looks elegant even though you had to go about it differently, great job!!
ReplyDeletexo Kathysue
Love the gold curtain and layered towels. Very well put together. I guess I didn't notice the tray on the back of the toilet before. I love that too.
ReplyDeleteBravo! Bravo! it looks super. I can't wait to see the new faucet too...
ReplyDeleteChristine
Marty, you are speaking my language now, or closer to my budget at least, lol. Oh my, I love what you did. It just looks fabulous, warm and wonderful. Love the curtain you made and all the accessories are just perfect!!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful, love the new dressed up style! Just bought pretty towels from TJ, too! :)
ReplyDeleteI just love your make-over! And how smart are you to remove the builder's medicine cabinet!?! Now all I have to do it talk Hubby into letting me try that at our home;)
ReplyDeleteThis is stunning! I love the transformation! Your vignettes are so pretty and the pictures are perfect for this space! I also love the drape you made!
ReplyDeleteMarty,
ReplyDeleteYou did a terrific job transforming your bathroom. It looks beautiful with all your unique touches.
Mary Alice
The most elegant bathroom I've ever seen!!! What else is there to do, it's perfect with such gorgeous artwork and beautiful accessories. Your bathroom it's so inspiring for when I start redoing mine, which I keep on procrastinating, lol! Stunning transformation dear Marty!
ReplyDeleteFABBY
Love the new look, Marty! Always nice when you can freshen up a room without spending a fortune.
ReplyDeleteNice job! My favorite part, perhaps because I have to do the same, is getting rid of the medicine cabinet, what a difference it makes! Love the gold accents and the accesories.
ReplyDeleteYou did a beautiful job with the room! It looks entirely different and so elegant. I love the towels and the vanity set. I went back and read the other post...so sorry for your husband about the dental work. Ouch. We usually have one of the "have to" things hit when we have just spent the money on a "want". For example on vacation in Michigan a couple weeks ago, we had to buy new brakes for the car for over $700! Again, ouch!
ReplyDeleteYour bathroom is just lovely Marty! I can't wait to see how you made the tank tray....I was wondering where you got it when I spotted it earlier in the post. Everything looks beautiful! Awesome job...:)
ReplyDeleteBlessings, Vicky
Life On Willie Mae Lane
Two thumbs up. I think I see the removal of a medicine cabinet in my future.
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Dawna
Wow, Marty, this looks great--very glam but very "real." I like it! ~Zuni
ReplyDeleteI love it, Marty!!
ReplyDeleteIt looks stunning!!
So elegant, warm and inviting!!
Great job!!
Jenn
Gorgeous! I love everything! The colors are so soft and warm...what a great space!
ReplyDeleteMiss Bloomers
Marty, it looks so elegant! Your new accessories are perfect, and I love the tray on top of the toilet tank. You are so smart. I may have to make one of those trays. Great idea. laurie
ReplyDeleteIt came out very pretty.
ReplyDeleteVery pretty and elegant! Thrifty too! Love it!!
ReplyDeleteVery nicely done Marty! I love that tray(?) on top of the toilet tank--it is so unusual. Wherever did you find that? Your bathroom looks very elegant.
ReplyDeleteI absolutely love it!
ReplyDeleteLooks fabulous. I especially love the frame and painting.
ReplyDeleteXOXO,
Meredith
Marty,
ReplyDeleteIt looks gorgeous. I love the mirror treatment and the angel painting from Goodwill oh my love that. Great job.
Kris
Love what you have accomplished in your bathroom. Your towels are fabulous. TJMax and Ross just got added to my bathroom list. It's amazing what we can find shopping our own treasures. Gives me inspiration to get my bathroom put together. It is the one room waiting for me since moving this winter.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful bathroom makeover... even more amazing for $100. Well done!
ReplyDeleteI loved the decor! and this is perfectly perfect golden hue of a glamorous air and all that saving, thanks for sharing and teaching us their tips through these articles
ReplyDeleteThe best recipe ever
Great job, Marty! I love that you were able to do it in such a budget-conscious manner, too. The mirror turned out fantastic! Love the sink accessories.
ReplyDeleteHow did you do?? You did GREAT!! Marty, you did an absolutely wonderful job with your bathroom. And you set a great example of being budget-conscious but still beautiful! Good for you!
ReplyDeleteIt is super classy! SO pretty I would be afraid to use it. I think bathrooms are the hardest rooms to make-over. Ours has no vent, so it's always humid. We keep a window cracked, so we freeze in the winter, and cook in the summer!
ReplyDeleteLooks beautiful! Like the elegant look. Bet you are enjoying the change. It is like a new bathroom. Change is always good.
ReplyDeleteI absolutely love this!! It's so rich-looking! Fabulous job! :)
ReplyDeleteYou did great Marty! Looks so much brighter! ;)
ReplyDeleteI think you bathroom looks great. There is a golden glow to it that makes it so lovely, and I love all the items you have displayed. There isn't anything more unbecoming than a medicine cabinet stuck on the side of the wall - your wall is much improved by having removed it.
ReplyDeleteLovely room.
Patty
What a beautiful job of shopping the home, Marty. I love your bathroom; very elegant! Thanks so much for sharing and joining me at my HOME.
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Sandi
It turned out wonderful! I love the elegant look of it. I am just getting ready to start a major remodel of our master bath and you have inspired me.
ReplyDeleteExcellent job! Your accessories from RH look perfect and so does the shower curtain! I've had o step back many times and reconfigure what I want to do many times because of budgetary reasons. Sometimes it works about better and you have that satisfaction of knowing the effort that was made. I need to add a 2nd towel bar to my door like you did for guests. I like the arrangement above the commode- great job!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous! You have the most beautiful style. Elegant with a touch of surprise
ReplyDeleteYou did brilliantly. The "new" bathroom is very chic and elegant.
ReplyDeleteHi Marty, your bathroom looks so sophisticated, everything marries so well together the look of the pretty dishes hung on wall add such a powerful punch to the décor. Great Job!
ReplyDeleteYou did a fantastic job, Marty! It all came together so well! I can't wait to see your tutorial on your tank topper tray!! I love it!!~~Angela

ReplyDeleteWow! Your bathroom looks absolutely stunning, Marty! I loved the final reveal! And the pictures are soooo inspiring and gorgeous! Those Frenchy bath accessories is my absolute favorite and so is the ornate picture frame. Everything is so beautiful, so traditional and so Marty :) Loved it!~Poppy
ReplyDeleteYour bathroom redo turned out so nicely! I especially like your favorite painting. Looking forward to the tank topper tutorial--that is such a great idea!
ReplyDeleteMarty,
ReplyDeleteMagnificient make~over, dear friend!!!
I love the art work combined with the transfereware!!!
New towels always give a bathroom a facelift. . .these are regal!!!
Major update with the medicine cabinet switched out for a towel bar!!!

Pat
It's just so lovely and elegant Marty! Must be bathroom makeover reveal week huh? ;-)
ReplyDeleteVanessa
Love your bathroom reveal, especially the shower curtain fabric. Your pictures are good choices to use with the new look. Best thing is you didn't have to spend money.
ReplyDeleteIt is absolutely gorgeous Marty! I love ornate frames too and yours is amazing. Thanks so much for sharing and blessings to you, Patti
ReplyDeleteIt's really beautiful! I love how elegant it is. Your choice of fabric for the shower curtain is so pretty and sets the tone for the rest of the room. I like your new accessories and towels too. I've never seen a toilet tray (like the one you made), but love it! Such a neat idea.
ReplyDeleteHi Marty! You get an A+ in my book! I really do love what you've done. So elegant. The shower curtain is lovely and so are the pieces of art you've used. The new bath pieces are gorgeous too. Now the only thing missing is YOU snapping in your mirror for me! :)
ReplyDeleteBe a sweetie,
Shelia ;)
Your bathroom as so elegant! I am obsessed with antique mirrors. What you did with your mirror is lovely!

It looks fabulous! I clicked over to the first post and saw the mirror you were considering....I think you were so smart to just upgrade the one you had! Great, great job!
ReplyDeleteYour new bath is beautiful! Taking out the medicine cabinet made a world of difference, and the towel rack on the door are so nice to have for extra towels. Great makeover!

ReplyDeleteMarty, your bathroom is very very pretty.

ReplyDeleteI love the whole bathroom! The shower curtain is of course amazing. I really like the towels and the counter accessories. The apothecary is great! The bathroom mirror looks so beautiful and I love the art and the hand towels on the wall instead of the medicine cabinet. Such a beautiful room!! ~ Jamie
ReplyDeleteHello Marty, love the bathroom transformation! Everything you did made it quite a lovely, elegant room - I will be featuring your post in this week's Home and Garden Thursday,
