An Early Birthday Present & A Present for YOU

I love it when I get an early Birthday present.  I was trying to sew the other day and my poor 40+ yr. old machine just wouldn't cooperate.  I was struggling with the tension and it was driving me crazy.  So DH said "Would you like a new Sewing Machine for your Birthday?"  Well how long do you suppose it took me to say "YES!!!!!".

So off to look up all the reveiws on line and pick out the one I wanted.  Now I've had a really simple Kenmore that just did straight and zig-zag stitches.  Nothing fancy, everything manual and I have sewn literally millions of miles with that machine.  I have loved it and really didn't see a need for anything more.

Now here is my new one.  Brothers and it's electronic, so I am sure there is a huge learning curve ahead.

Isn't it pretty.  There are so many things it will do and the manual is like a book.  It even threads the needle for you.  That's a super feature to me.  It does 80 different stitches.  I saw some that did even more, but I can't imagine I will ever use all 80 of these.  This is also the one that was designed for Project Runway.

These are the different kinds of stitches it will do.  Can you imagine, you just punch in the number for the stitch and it automatically does it.  Now am I part of the 21st century or what!!!!  Brothers has not paid me in any way for my review, this is strictly my opinion.  There are a lot of absolutely fabulous sewing machines to choose from, I picked this one because of it's multiple functions and price.  I am sure I will love this one for years too.

I did figure out how to thread it and get it ready for just some simple basic sewing, so out came some of my fabrics that I have been hoarding.  Don't you love these two,

and how about these two also.  I have one more I am throwing into the mix too.  You'll have to wait and see what I'm making.

Now for YOUR PRESENT.  I have a super present for you guys and you will have to come back and see my 176th Inspire Me Tuesday post to find out all about it.   It is for a chance to win a super prize valued at up to $300.   No it is not a sewing machine, but it is something for your home and I know we all love that.   I am so excited, I know you are going to love it.  So be sure to come back Monday evening when Inspire Me Tuesday goes live and enter.

  5. I do excited for you! I had a Kenmore from the 70's too. It has always done me a great job. No fancier than yours. Same story, it was having tension problems again. So I got a new Brother machine too! It was so different fo. I had to have my son figure out how to thread it for me, he was 9 and helped me so much because it was so different for me , lol!! It didn't take me long to figure it all out and I love it!
Your fabrics are pretty, I can't wait to see what you make. You give away sounds fun.
    Your hubby is a sweety.

  6. Oh I'm so excited for you...can't wait to see what you'll make with the beautiful fabrics!

  7. How exciting to get a new machine. My simple feather weight Singer is no longer working, so I've considered buying a new machine. I just want a simple straight line, nothing fancy. Thanks for sharing the info on this one. Happy Early Birthday! ~ Sarah

  8. Happy Birthday Marty - you must be a Leo. Your sewing machine is great. I bet you will be sewing up a storm now making all sorts of lovely items. Can hardly wait to see what you make with your lovely fabrics.

  9. Does it monogram? I need that! Happy early birthday present!

  10. Oh Marty! What a great gift! You will have so much fun learning all the 'new-fangled' stuff! I am not a good seamstress, so the simpler, the better for me. I do like the sound of it threading itself, though! Have fun!

  11. What a great machine! You are going to have so much fun with that!

  12. How fun to have a new toy Marty! She looks great, best of luck with it:@)

  13. Congrats Marty and happy early birthday!! :)

  14. Congrats, Marty, and Happy Birthday early! I had a Kenmore from early on in our marriage and made just about everything that my kiddos wore. It had the cams, & it kept me stitching away for about fifteen years. Just after I started sewing professionally, my hubby bought me the top of the line Bernina. It's going on 27 years and still sews like a dream. It's also built like a tank -- glad I have a dedicated space for it, because it is sooo.... heavy! You are going to have a blast with all those fun stitches!

  15. Happy Birthday! Nice Birthday present!
You will have a lot of fun experimenting with the different stitches.
Hope you are enjoying the weekend.

  16. Happy Birthday Marty. Good call on picking the one with all those different stitches. When I bought a new machine a few years ago I shied away from the electronic machines and now I wish I had just taken the plunge. I can't wait to see what you are making with those fabulous fabrics.

  17. Happy Happy Birthday, Marty. What a great present. Brother makes a VERY good machine. You will have so much fun using it. I had an old Kenmore and I finally burned the motor out in the thing. It was one of the older ones and Singer made those and put Sears name on it. Can't wait to see what you are up to with those fabrics and to see what's happening Monday! xo Diana

  18. An early Happy Birthday wish, Marty. So, there go your wonderful no-sew tutorials! You will be sewing up everything with your wonderful birthday present.

Have a great rest of the week-end, and I'll be back for Inspire Me. :)

  19. well, happy early birthday to you! Love the machine. My mom used to sew all my clothes when I was in jr. high and high school, but she didn't have the patience to teach me. I can cut out a pattern, sew with a needle and thread, but never learned to run a machine. Lucky you! I love your choice of fabrics! Can't wait to see what you will be doing with them! I'll be back on Tuesday, for sure! :)

  20. You are gonna love that new machine and soon you'll be back to making quilts and all kinds of new goodies!!! My sister has a Brother and loves it, even does the monogramming thing. I have a Bernina, 10 yrs. old and it is a work horse, still haven't figured it all out yet nor have I used all the stitches!!! Hey, there's still time!!! Happy Birthday!!

  21. Enjoy your new sewing machine, Marty! I got a Brother sewing/embroidery machine last year when my old Singer died. So many features that I love on it.

  22. You will love your computerized machine. I always tell people you really can't hurt just enjoy playiig with the buttons. Hopefully, it came with some lessons too!

  23. Happy Birthday and happy sewing! Wonderful gift and it is something you wished for. enjoy!!!

  24. Happy birthday dear sweet Marty!!! May God continue to bless you always!!! Wish I could sew, so I'm kinda glad the prize is not a sewing machine! But I'm happy for you, more projects for us to see then!CHEERS!

  25. What a great gift on your birthday! Please do posts on how your learning curve with the machine is going (maybe I'll learn something) ....My old sewing machine and I had to part ways....I just couldn't get it to work to get the last word I sold it for 2 bucks at a garage

  26. What a lovely gift! Thanks for sharing at Silver Pennies Sundays.
