See it from this angle.
Here, the height is what I am talking about. I made it this tall because my last sofa had very high side arms and this one is low, So the table is way toooooooooo tall.
This is why I put this off for so long. I have a beautiful damask cloth that I always use on it, and then I just change the cover one to go with whatever color scheme or accessories I am using. So to shorten the legs, I had to cut off the skirt and then redo the welting hem. It really only took about 30 minutes, so I can't explain why I didn't do it sooner.
Also, as an update to the lamp delima. I loved reading all of your guys help about the mercury lamps I was considering for this room. In case you missed it you can read all of it here. Most of you felt like I did, that although they were gorgeous lamps, they just didn't work in my room. So, I am still on the hunt. However, I didn't take them back, my daughter loved them and they will be stunning in her more contemporary home, so I gave them to her for her Birthday which is the 22nd. She is thrilled and I am thrilled to have the perfect present. So all turned out well after all.

ReplyDeleteMarty,
ReplyDeleteI totally agree!!!
An amazing transformation!!!
You always inspire us to "think" and take action
to accomplish fabulous design in our home decor!!!
Thank you, dear friend!!!
Fondly,
Pat
Much better! Your instincts were right Marty!
ReplyDeleteWe had an end table like that as well-far too high. We switched it out and it's so much more functional now! I love skirted round tables, too, and yours is so pretty!
ReplyDeleteAmazing what a difference that little change made!
ReplyDeleteOMG I didndn't even noticed it was really so high! The end table is perfect now and boy, what a satisfaction of a perfect well done job! Sometimes we just procrastinate for so long to make the right change. Perfect Marty!
ReplyDeleteFABBY
I have 3,752 jobs I am procrastinating on!
ReplyDeleteI have to say that shortening that table makes a big difference in the feel of the room!
xo
Andie
Yes, the table looks like a perfect height now. Boy, are you ever talented to redo that so quickly!
ReplyDeleteHave a great day.
Pam
marty I am famous for procrastinating. What turns out to be less than an hour I can think about forever before I make the move to fix it. Having company is always a good way to get me moving. It does look better and you know how I love the checks, one of my favorite patterns,
ReplyDeleteHappy Sunday,
xoxo Kathysue
It turned out great Marty! I know what you mean about the height making a big difference:@)
ReplyDeleteIt looked ok to me until you showed the cut down table. then I got it! it does look so much better.
ReplyDeleteLove your table redo. That was a simple fix, wasn't it? I've had that same problem before, but wasn't able to cut the legs down so I had to use another table. Love the checked tablecloth you made too.
ReplyDeleteAmazing what a little change can do for a room.. Great job!!!
ReplyDeleteYour room is stunning by the way.. did you make your throw pillows?
-Tina
Yes, I made all the pillows and the drapes too. Thanks.
DeleteBeautifully done! Love them.
Delete-Tina
Smart idea. It looks great. I always love skirted round tables.
ReplyDeleteMarty, every step on your home decorating journey makes sense and looks perfect. Funny what a difference that height of the table makes - and yay/grats on the perfect gift for your daughter - love love love it when it happens.
ReplyDeleteKeeping my fingers crossed on your lamp find - you will, you ALWAYS DO!! ? : - )
Hugs.
Hi Marty, isn't just amazing how we feel when such a difficult thought of change can just take a bit out of your day to then make such a rewarding outcome to a project? Like you said your not sure why you waited so long. Bravo! Job well done without disturbing the effect of the piece :)
ReplyDeleteXx
Doré
So happy that your plan worked out marty.
ReplyDeleteMarty,
ReplyDeleteLove the round table lower. That was so great that you could pass the lamps onto your daughter for a nice gift. I know you will find the perfect lamps. They are out there!!!:)
Kris
I do the same Marty, just keep putting off things then when I do get them done I wonder why I just didn't do them in the first place. I love how the table goes so well now, I have that problem between the two chairs in my livingroom to tall of a table!
ReplyDeleteThe table looks much better. I also do the same thing - put things off and think tomorrow I will do it and then tomorrow comes and its a month later. So glad that your daughter loved the lamps.
ReplyDeleteHave a terrific week.
Mary
I know how nice it feels to finish something you have wanted to do for a long time . Glad you feel better. It does look nice but to tell you the truth I had not noticed the table was taller at all.
ReplyDeleteGreat idea, isn't it nice to get that off your "to-do" list! Such a pretty room Marty!
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Cindy
That's something most of our visitors don't notice that much, but we know it's wrong! It looks great, I love your room ;)
ReplyDeleteI have alot of projects like that - once you do it you wonder what took you so long. It makes a big difference. Great job.
ReplyDeleteI do that very same thing ~ putting things off that I'm dreading. But what a wonderful feeling when it's all done and out of the way and you can enjoy the fruits of your labor instead of cringing every time you think of it. It looks great at the lower level.
ReplyDeleteCindy
Marty, I also procrastinate about things and then wonder why I waited so long. The table looks great at the new height.
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Sherry
Love the skirted table and the way you always having it matching the rest of the room, and at the new height it looks fantastic.
ReplyDeleteSandy
I never noticed the table was high, but I agree that the new height is just right. I cringed when you said you made the table cloth shorter, I need a new, larger one for my round table. I got Hubby to make the top larger..from a 24 inch to a 30 diameter. The smaller size was always smaller than I liked and when we rearranged the furniture, it was really too small. Did you ever do a tutorial on making a round table cloth? . xo Babs
ReplyDeleteWow, out of all the projects I've done, I never have done a tutorial on how to make a round table cloth. I need to do that, It is really so easy.
DeleteWould you just LOOK at the comments... we were all interested in the lamp situation and now just look at what you did. An easy fix indeed. Some of us would have been out trying to find another table...(not mentioning any names here.) All you did is cut down the legs and PERFECT! You are so clever, Marty! GOOD JOB!
DeleteMarty,I couldn't see anything wrong with table until you did the makeover, and then it was obvious. It looks so much better now.
ReplyDeleteIt goes to show how we live with something for so long and it could have been fixed in 5 mins. I have so many things like this to do.
What a difference, Marty! I had the exact same problem years ago and that height issue nudged at me for such a long time. In the end, I just placed the table in another room. A charming result you have here!
ReplyDeletePoppy
Such a great idea. It looks much more comfortable!
ReplyDeleteSounds like a pain in the neck. I'm sure it feels good to have that crossed off of your list.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad your daughter liked the lamps. I have those lamps and I love them.
Great call Marty. I didn't really "see" it until you made the change....looks so much more functional.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Shanee -- although your home is just gorgeous regardless! xoxo
ReplyDeleteHi Marty! You seem to love the color and shape of your white ginger jar style lamps, so I was wondering if you've tried changing them up with a new shade? It may be the solution to your lamp dilemma. Keep the lamps you love and get a new look. -Marie (Long Beach, CA)
ReplyDeleteI have SEVERAL similar projects that I know perfectly well won't take that long to accomplish. You have inspired me my friend to "get on it". :) The table does indeed look SO much better.
ReplyDeleteHave a happy fall day my friend! Don't forget to enter my 1000th post celebration giveaways all week long.
It's the little thing that make such a difference and by cutting it down really made it! Looks great!
ReplyDeleteAlmost couldn't tell the difference at the beginning but then I looked again at how the light from the lamp falls, and it truly does make a whole lot of difference Marty!
ReplyDeleteThat looks great. Shortening the legs was a nice easy fix! I would be scared to change the welt on the fabric though- that's not my comfort zone! Great job!
ReplyDeleteYep -- that table is now perfect! You've done it -- inspired me again. I've got a couple of those dumb, easy projects that take more time to put off than they do to tackle, so I'm going to get at 'em this weekend. Thank you, Marty!!!
ReplyDeleteLove the change. It's now more functional and beautiful!
ReplyDeleteAs many times as I have seen your living room I never thought about the height of that table! It does look better now. I sure do wish I had your sewing skills, I would be sewing right now if I could! Have a great week, Marty! XO
ReplyDeleteHi Marty, that looks really nice! Surprising what a little detailing can do. We all would not have noticed that but I do the same as you when something is not right it bothers me and I just have to fix it too. Happy Decorating! Lisa @ Sweet Tea N' Salty Air
ReplyDeleteI can't tell you how many times I have said, "Why didn't I do this sooner?" It looks really nice!
ReplyDeleteMarty isn't it funny how you put it off and put it off, and then it only took a half hour and made the room feel better? (PS if I was trying to re-do welting it would take me 2 days!!!)
ReplyDeleteI LOVE that huge mirror over your couch. The scale is so fabulous!
I see Mrs. Wonderful Decorator strikes again! Your table looks perfect! I just love your living room. Thank you for your prayers, Marty.
ReplyDeleteBe a sweetie,
Shelia :)
I understand what you mean Marty, I have several projects that need my attention, but I just put them off for another day. Then, when you just jump in and get it done, you feel so good about it. Your living room looks lovely. So inviting.
ReplyDeleteHeather
Looks wonderful! Thanks for sharing at Silver Pennies Sundays. x
ReplyDeleteYes, the table is perfect now! I do that same thing, and usually the task is not nearly as difficult as I thought it would be.
