I hope everyone had a very fun, fabulous and safe 4th with your family and friends. We had a great BBQ and I had a little time to do some crafting and putzing too.
You know how it is, you do a project and then you just keep tweaking it ever so slightly. I am really enjoying my new diy desk accessories. I had so much fun trying to create a look inspired by some accessories that I saw from Kate Spade. I just needed a place for my paperclips, so I took a trip to goodwill and found just the perfect thing.

Ok, actually I found a few things. I have no idea what these little rectangle dishes were originally for, but I bought both of them (hubby said he thinks they might have been for sugar packets) and also a little round dish that I thought was cute.
I'm still using the same gold spray paint that I have been using on all my glass and accessories. I love this stuff. It is available at Joann's and on line.
I taped a strip through the middle of one of the rectangular dishes and then sprayed it with my 24K gold spray paint. Perfect size to hold my big paperclips.
The second one I left the bottom and top of the dish clear and just spray painted a gold band around the side of the bottom. I also sprayed some of my butterfly clips gold too.
I think they are a fun addition to the desk.
Alright, I know, this is getting to be a little obsessive, but since I have been painting everything in sight, I really thought I needed to give my tape dispenser a chic makeover.
While the paint was drying, I decided to change out the lamp for a more sleek style. I love the style and geometric shape of this one - - -
Not sure if I did something wrong or what, but the clear spray over the gold paint on the dispenser made it look weird. I ended up gold leafing it. Much better.
I love the tape dispenser, it is a great finishing touch.
Then on a seperate shopping trip with a friend, I found one more upgrade. I really thought I needed an elegant cup to go with all my other accessories. How could I possibly turn down this beauty with gold trim.
OK, I am going to quit now, I love it all and I have had so much fun just playing. Isn't that what counts?
So what have you tweaked lately?
See you this afternoon for Inspire Me, Party goes live at 3 PM CMT

Painting your desk accessories gold looks like a terrific way to make things look chic. Generally I prefer a basic black, but your desk looks like a million bucks!
ReplyDeleteAmazing what you think up! How rich your desk looks now, love it!

Marty, the gold paint makes everything looks so chic! You did a fabulous job with your updates!
ReplyDeleteDo I dare say you have the Midas touch? Everything looks so lovely and pulled together! Very cute idea to spray paint all of your accessories. I'm so glad you found such a pretty cup, because, truly the desk would have been missing something if you had not added that cup! My desk is rarely without a cup (or humungous mug) at least throughout the morning....lol!
ReplyDeleteMarty your desk accessories look very stylish...love what you've done to them!!
ReplyDeletelooks great! I dont think I would have ever thought about painting that gold paint on the glass items and I love how it looks. I need to remember this!

ReplyDeleteLove how you updated old tired things and made them beautiful! Love how your desk looks now. Great makeover!
ReplyDeleteLove the gold look Marty!! Your desk looks beautiful!!!
ReplyDeleteLuAnn ;)
What an elegant desk set you've created, Marty! You've made me ashamed of my junky desk. I hope this post inspires me to do something about my desk. laurie
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea to jazz up your desk supplies like that! I had not ever thought to use paint to make everything match. Your desk looks a lot nicer than mine! Mine has doors that I can hide all the clutter, but it usually stays open most of the time.
ReplyDeleteI put together a tutorial on creating wall art with a simple decoupage idea. I saw some expensive prints on Oka and I guess sort of 'hacked' the idea. I was quite pleased with how it turned out and hope that your viewers find it helpful.
ReplyDeleteLee :)
I love the gold! Pinned. We love having you be a part of our party. I hope to see you tonight at 7 pm. http://loulougirls.blogspot.com/
