DIY Ugly Sweater

Are you going to an Ugly Sweater Party?
My son asked me to help him make one for his company party.

I started with a red sweater, felt, jingle bells, pom poms, beads, letters and glue.

He came up with the design - - - - so fun.

We used the white felt to cut out snowflakes, reindeer and a tree, then used fabric glue to attach them to the sweater.  A red bow and wiggly eyes for the reindeer and bells for the tree.  Iron on letters spell out our HO HO HO and Bah Humbur.  I had a small stocking ornament,so I sewed it on and also sewed on a couple of small presents.

The leaping reindeer are out of the felt also.

On the sleeves - - - Jingle Bells

Batman Smells - - -remember those lyrics.

Oh, Jingle Bells, Batman Smells, Robin flew away,
Batmobile lost a wheel and the Joker got away, hey.
Jingle Bells, Batman Smells, Robin flew away,
Batmobile lost a wheel, oh Happy Christmas Day.
(I can't believe how popular that was for a while.  You can still find it all over Youtube)

The back has a small decorated tree and a fun quote.

Can't wait to hear about his party and all the other "ugly sweaters".

Do you have an ugly sweater?

Be sure to get all of your projects lined up for Inspire Me Tuesday.  Party goes live this afternoon at 3 PM CMT.  Can't wait to see you there.

  1. No ugly sweater but as a child in northern CA I sang:
Jingle Bells, Batman Smells, Robin laid an egg, Batmobile lost its wheel and Joker ran away. :)

  2. That sure is one cute ugly sweater. Clever idea.

  3. Very clever Marty! My son also asked for a sweater, but I took the easy way out and borrowed one from my next
door neighbor who has been attending ugly sweater parties for many years. LOL

  4. I always thought these were so fun. My daughter needs one for a party. We searched the thrift stores with no luck. I'm going to borrow your idea and make one for her too. Hope your son had a good time at his office party!

  5. Oh my gosh the SLEEVES! I love this - it cracks me up!

  6. Yes, I have been to an ugly sweater party and it was so much fun....and to think we all had those types of sweaters years ago...I got rid of mine when Oprah said that they are the one thing we should never they are going like hot cakes on eBay and consignment shops!....Great job on the sweater and yes, I do remember that song!!!

  7. So creative and I have a couple of sweaters that are light years away from cute, but they aren't for Christmas! LOL!!!
