Spring ORC - Master Bedroom Closet Makeover

I am one week late to the party, but I am happily joining
for her ORC series.

Our master bedroom closet is in desperate need of a makeover and some organization.  I thought if I joined this challenge it would push me to get this room done.

As you walk in this is what you see.  There are double rods on the right that my hubby uses and straight ahead are double rods that I use.  This is an L shapped space, so to the left is the worst space of all.

As you can see, hubby's side and those wire baskets are as bad as my stuff.

This is what is to the left of the double rods you see in the above pic.  A messy space for dresses and taller hanging clothes.

Since there are no drawers, we put this basket unit here to hold socks, tees and undies.  Useful, but not really pretty.

The worst part of all is this house has the smallest linen closet in history, so all of our extra blankets and such are on the shelf above the long clothes hanging rod.  I keep waiting for all of this to tumble down on me any minute.

I have 5 more weeks to complete this project, and I think I will need every minute of it.  To start with, a lot of purging is needed and then some pretty organization.  So far on my list I have ordered 6 pretty storage boxes, a shoe organizer and a hanging shelf unit.

I found 3 of these fabulous bins at Ross, perfect to store tons of stuff.

Tan & Black Hangers and those fabrics are going to be some of the wow.

My color scheme is tan/black/white with touches of gold gild.

Since this is a cosmetic makeover not a gut job, I am trying to make what we have as functional as possible, and I want to add a little glam at the same time too.  I'm working with builder basic - no fancy custom organizers.

Here is my plan-
1. add more shelving
2.   paint
3. add wood shoe rack for hubby
4. rearrange hanging space
5. possibly replace carpet with wood floors
6.  add decorative accessories and hooks for purses.

I am trying to do all of this on a budget of no more than $300.  This is not a gut job, just some cosmetic changes and hopefully utitlize what we have better.   Wish me luck.

  1. Better late than never Miss Marty! This space is going to to look great! I love all of your ideas. Can't wait to get even more inspiration as my closets need a bit of a spruce too. Keep up the good work!

  2. One of my favorite transformations to see is storage/closet spaces. Can't wait to see it progress!

  3. Glad you jumped in the ORC, Marty! Doesn't Ross have the best stuff sometimes?

  4. My goodness, you" before" closet is way ,I mean way better than mine....I live in a 1930's house just barely enough closet space for two. Can't wait to see your new closet redo.

  5. Can't wait to see you work your magic! I'm working on two closet re-dos right now (boy bedroom and playroom); yours looks more fun! xx, b @

  6. Its nice to see we all have the same issues with storage in our closets. I am sure it will come out fabulous.

  7. Good luck, Marty! Having a pretty and organized closet is so important and gives you such a good feeling when you open the door. I know I feel happy every time I walk into our master bedroom closet.

  8. I love the color combo you are working with and those storage boxes are beautiful unto themselves. I can't wait to see how it all turns out. Every day when I walk in my closet I think "this space will be great...someday". I'm happy your someday has rolled around.

  9. I am going to keep an eye on you and can't wait to see how it turns out. I am so in need of doing this very chore,

  10. A closet makeover for under $300 ... I'm in! Looking forward to following along Marty!

  11. Pretty brave to post the inside of our closet, I don't think I could do it!!

  12. Oh, Marty, I can't wait to see the transformation of this space!! I need to reorganize our walk in closet, too, and I'm looking for ideas. My budget needs to be no more than $200 and I can do it, just need the storage boxes, etc. PLEASE, keep us posted on the progress!

  13. Good luck, Marty! I can't wait to see it completed. Closets can be so overwhelming especially the ones that hold our clothes. Mainly because we need our clothes! We have a great organizer in ours (it was there when we moved in), but I'm sure we could always use it in a better way.

  14. A closet makeover sounds awesome! Can't wait, Marty!

  15. I'm very much interested in seeing this makeover. So many of my closets need to be done over. Our closets are tiny too which is always a challenge.

  16. Oh Marty! I'm so glad you joined in on the fun!!!! So excited what you do with your closet since I need to do mine one of these days! Excited of course to follow along your progress!

  17. And when you are can come to my house and do our closets! LOL
I can't wait to see what the redo looks like. Very exciting for me! I hate the way my closets look! Have fun!

  18. Looking forward to the reveal Marty...I know it's going to look great!!

  19. Hi Marty,
I cannot wait to see your closet make over. I know it will look awesome. I need to organize my closet too. It will be fun to see all your great ideas in there.

  20. Marty- I need to makeover my closet SO bad!!! I cannot wait to see your ideas come to life. PS where's that shoe organizer from? I need like 7 of them ASAP! xoxox

    1. Good ole Walmart. They have some pretty things on line.

  21. Hi Marty,
This looks like a great project. I am thinking of changing out all of our hangers for the ones you have. I'll be really interested to see how your closet ends up. :)
    Have a great weekend!

  22. I think I beat you on the linen closet, I don't have one. When the previous owners built this house they tried to skimp on everything. We made some changes like bumping the kitchen out two feet with windows and other small changes. Love it!

So I have a cabinet made from wood kitchen cabinets cut down. Nice idea to have towels in the bathroom, but I would love a linen closet, just no place to put it. If you have any ideas, please pass them along! Would be grateful!

  23. Can't wait to see the after! Can you come an do my closet next?! I started working on it in Jan....but did not finish the job. Ha!

  24. You are so cute! Glad to see you jumping in. Your closet looks fine to me. Love the bins.

  25. SO glad you joined the ORC, Marty! It is the perfect way to stay on track and get a room done! I love your inspiration for your closet! Can't wait to follow along! xo

  26. I will enjoy seeing the progress. I love your ideas.

  27. Marty, I love your ideas. Can't wait to see them. You don't need will knock it right out of the park.
