Farmhouse Chic Black & White Winter Living Room

I am on a black and white kick and loving it.  Farmhouse Chic is what I am calling it.

I ordered this fabric weeks ago, not sure why it took so long to get here.
These four fabrics will be fabulous to work with, I can't wait to sew some pillows and maybe a table runner too.  These got me to thinking about black and white, so I thought maybe I could pull something together.

I've had this check tablecloth for ages, I just never used it.  Time to pull it out and see how it works.  Now you all know that basically my house is cream and tan, but that doesn't mean that black and white can't work.

I decided to go through my stash and pull out some of my other black and white.  Of course I think the Ikea pillow that is world famous is always great, and how could I not dream up something with my wonderful throw that Santa brought me.

(Now I have to tell you the cutest story about this throw.  Hubby asked me what I wanted for Christmas - I told him I saw a really pretty white fox fur with brown tips throw at HomeGoods.  He said ok.  Now he would normally just tell me to go buy it, instead he just said ok.  Come Christmas morning he pulled out this really big box and looked so excited.  He exclaimed that he found exactly what I said I wanted.  Now mind you,  he really did go to HomeGoods which is totally amazing all by itself.  When I unwrapped the present, this is what I found - a gray feathery fur throw with white tips.  I don't have one single thing in my house that is gray.   I am  not sure how white fox with brown tips got translated into gray feathery, but I adore it.  He tried, so that is what means the world to me.)

Isn't this a fun throw, I love it and of course I absolutely had to figure out how to make it the star of the show.

I pulled aother abstract design black and white pillow out of my stash and of course I added in some black sequin for a little glitz on the chair.

A gray sequine scarf from a friend looks awesome on the ottoman and I adore the gold orb.

Such a simple and refreshing change after Christmas.  I think we can always be open to "new" don't you?

Have you been making tons of changes too?  How about a different color scheme - is it something you like to try out?

  1. Marty,
I love the story about your husband's interpretation of your throw!!!
"Mr. Ed" did something similar a few years back about a scarf I picked out at Target.
I still wear it around my neck under my coat and everyone always compliments me about it!
I love the pillows and fabrics you've chosen!!!
I'm still in the clearing out of drawers!!!
I won't make many changes this year, and those will be more towards Spring!!!

  2. Husbands have a way of "thinking" they are listening - haha!! Cute story - and he actually found a cute one! Every room needs a little black and white - this looks great!

  3. Marty, that was so sweet of your husband even if he missed the description! However, it looks fabulous in your refreshed black and white! I love all of your black/white/gold touches that you are adding! Very classic! Pam @ Everyday Living

  4. What a sweet husband! The black and white looks great Marty.

  5. Oh, I've been very busy changing things. Again! I love the furry throw. I think it looks great with what you have there. Now Marty, I know your style is very elegant. But I always think black and white could use just a little bit of red for a pop...

  6. I love the color palette you have picked for you living room. I have been gone for a while from the blogosphere and it's nice to see such an awesome update!

  7. Love your living room Marty! You know this are my favorite colors, so I`m on your`s husband`s side this time! He is so sweet, you have to give him a credit for trying. Although I don`t understand how can he translated white and brown into a grey and white...But men have their own way of thinking that we will never understand... :)

  8. I'm a huge fan of black and white decorating. Your living room is gorgeous!

  9. Your sweet hubby's gift was the perfect item to bring together the black and white theme, and the cream and tan provides a rich backdrop. Your home is proof positive that a neutral background can be best for changing color schemes.

  10. I love your decorating style, elegant, simple, traditional with just a bit of glam! Everything looks so "put together". Love the story about your husband's gift. Mine did the same. I told him I wanted a crock to ferment olives and even showed him a picture of a beautiful 3 gallon crock. Apparently all he heard was "olive" and "crock" and for Christmas I got an olive colored 1 gallon crock! He said he looked to the ends of the earth to find an olive colored crock, when all I wanted was a bisque colored one! Gotta love the guys for at least trying!

  11. How fun Marty! I love it when my hubby makes that special effort for me instead of making me get it myself. You did a great job of incorporating the throw in with the other black and white items. It's fun to change up the look in the room isn't it!

  12. That KICK is right on the dot Marty! Love how you are venturing into the "DARK SIDE"! LOL! I want to head in that direction one of these days too! love the buffalo checks most of all!

  13. Your husband went to HomeGoods for you. You know that you are loved!
The throw looks great with your styling.

  14. You are so right in your farmhouse chic...I love it!!!...I think that throw was just meant to be in your your hubby did really good!...Such a sweet and precious thing to do for you. He is a keeper!!!

  15. Natural colours combined with black & white details make a cozy home interior.

  16. This is such a bold and beautiful color palette. It is so lovely. Pinning! Thanks for linking up to You're Gonna Love it!

  17. Marty, it's gorgeous! I am kind of obsessed with black and white decor. I love the "neutral-ness" and contrast, and that I can accent with any color I want any time I want! :)

  18. That is really great Marty! I love the contrast! Thanks for sharing at Home Sweet Home!
