Using Plants Around The House - Realistic Faux's

I love the look of something green and alive in a room, but I can't keep a plant alive to save me.  So faux's to the rescue.  They have some really realistic looking ones now, so there's no excuse to not have a few plants if you have  a brown thumb too.  I especially love small pots of plants to tuck into little nooks here and there.

I shared this arrangement yesterday that I created for the dining room table.  These little pots of plants pulled all the diverse elements together for a cohesive display.

Small pots of plants are so useful, they can be tucked in around anything and add that finishing touch.  I made a ton of little green plants on this post.  Just find some realistic looking faux and take them apart and create some really fun little plants to use all over the house.

You can see in the pictures below how many different ways you can use these little pots of plants over and over.

There are some really realistic looking faux ivy plants out there too.

Michael's, JoAnn and Hobby Lobby have some great faux's.  Go make a few faux's and scatter them all around, it is fun.

  1. You are right Marty, greenery does magic in a home; makes it warm and the small pots in litte nooks are perfect. Although I have some real plants, I've been wanting to acquire small ones for places where there's no sunlight, as shelves and for decorating trays. Always thank you for such clever inspiration you share with us!
    Have a great weekend.

  2. Hi Marty! You are one of my favorite bloggers. You are down to earth, you use what you already have in new ways, and, as of today, you use faux plants! Keeping plants watered if they are anywhere but on my kitchen shelf under a window, is a lost cause with me. I am inspired! Keep up the good work!

  3. You really have a way with vignettes. Not too much - not too little. If you lived close by, I'd commissions you for help.

  4. You do have great vignettes. Now, if only the fauxs did not attract so much dust.

    1. The thing I love about faux's is you can just use the mist on your hose and wash them off. They dry in minutes in the sun and good to go again.

  5. I love the way you use greenery in your vignettes. I was telling Sheila at My Kentucky Living that years ago I worked for an interior designer who refused to use any kind of greenery, faux or live, and no floral arrangements. Her rooms always lacked something.

  6. I couldn't agree with you more Marty! I love greens all around, and I have a few faux ones I love like my faux wheat grass and orchids! You display yours always so perfectly!

  7. Marty,
The ivy on your coffee table looks very realistic, dear friend!!!
The Peace Plant is one of my most favorite,
mine only last a few months and then die away.
I use artificial green plants throughout our living area, also!!!
Great post featuring creative ways to use faux plants within your homedecor!!!

  8. love how the plants pull the look all together I have one real plant that my cat thinks is his buddy will have to see what he'll do to faux plants love the look thanks for sharing

  9. I looked at faux plants at Hobby Lobby yesterday, but haven't bought any yet. I'm upset that gnats (AGAIN) took over my house plants and I had to put them outside and most all are dead.

  10. I agree that good faux silks really add a nice touch of color around a house. Sheila
