Makeup For Over Fifty

I try to go every year and get refreshed on my makeup.  It seems like the older I get the more wrinkles and while I am determined to age as gracefully as possible, I think when your skin changes, so should your makeup.

I love a fresh dewey look for a more mature person rather than a made-up look.  So I went for my usual makeup lessons.  Most beauty counters will do a complete makeover for free or a very reasonable price.  I am sure we all have favorite "labels" that we love.  My favorites are Clinique and Bobbi Brown.

(Tip - since the light in most department stores is not very good, don't buy anything and don't judge the makeup until you can see it in natural light and at home in your own light.  That's the only way to get a true idea of how it looks.)

I scheduled an appointment at Macy's with Clinique and one at Dillards for Bobby Brown.  Both makeovers were nice, but the one from Clinique was my favorite.

Very soft and natural.  It just made my skin look dewey and fresh and not made up at all. I didn't need but a couple of things right now.  A soft peachy blush and lipstick.  The blush is called "aglow" and the lipstick is "melon pop".  Both are very sheer and very natural looking.  Just a hint of color.  Perfect for that no-makeup look.

Now you know how it goes, when you buy something you get the "gift with purchase".  These things are usually not someting I would ever use, however I did find a few things in the "gift" that I really like.

Clinique Moisture Surge Intense Skin Fortifying Hydrator.  This stuff feels like it goes deep into my skin and it feels so good.  It dries totally dry, so your makeup won't slide off your face and it won't feel greasy.  It just feels soft and hydrated and those wrinkles look a little softer.  I went back and bought the regular size, that little trial size wasn't going to last long.  (I put it with my travel makeup, perfect for a travel kit)
All About Eyes - This is great to give the eyes a fresh look.  Just a tiny bit does it and my eyes look brighter.

I have a wonderful brush cleaning and buffing system that I use and I usually just go with Dove soap.  However this little trial size cleanser felt really good and my face felt really clean.

How about you, do you try to refresh your makeup routine every year?  What are your favorite "go-to" products.

  1. I used Clinique for years. I moved around and am currently using Lancome but I was thinking the other day I should re-visit Clinique's product line. Now that I've seen this I am definitely going to do that! My goal when I wear makeup is to still look natural and not "made up". That lipstick sounds perfect!

  2. Thank you for the recommendations. What foundation do you use?

    1. I just wear a tinted moisturizer. I am currently using "it cc".

  3. I'm a total lipstick gal.... and I like my lips of a color that people see me coming. LOL That being said, today I stopped at the Mac counter in Macy's. They have my favorite lipsticks, and for a change, I bought two soft pink colors for summer. This will be a huge change for me. As for cleansers, I've always been happy with soap and water, and for a moisturizer I use Olay Regenerist Nightime Recovery creme.

  4. Oh, Marty, I have been a fan of Clinique for many years, just love their products. Their daily moisturizer, various lipsticks, eye pencil, mascara - all of these are in my everyday arsenal. I do love all of these you've listed here, as well, and have in recent years started using them. I have the face cleansing brush/cleanser, and purchased the kit for my daughter too (who loves it). I had previously bought the Clarisonic for my other daughter (much more expensive!). When the gifts with purchase roll around, my rep calls me and I pre-order enough to get gifts for each of my girls too (but I have also shared with my sisters).

  5. You should've shown us a picture of both Marty!!!! I would love to see both looks, I'm sure, both were pretty, just the feel, as you described was different. Love Clinique now and always!

    1. Oh I never thought of taking a pic. Next time for sure.

  6. Marty, this is so smart! I've ben thinking lately that I need to change my make-up, but I haven't quite known where to start. I saw a photo of myself recently and thought, "Oh, boy, I don't need to accentuate those lines with my make-up any more!" I don't ever want to be obsessed with my looks but I do want to look my best; I've never thought of scheduling a time for a makeover at one of the counters. Thanks for the tip!

  7. Hi Marty! First of all, you look beautiful! I agree with Richella, this is a good idea and I should do this too! I used to use Clinique and even though it's supposed to be allergy free, one day I just couldn't wear the makeup or use the products! I have really sensitive skin. So, I started using Neutrogena and Aveeno products. But, after we moved here I had to go to a dermatologist because my face was so so dry! I thought I was getting eczema. Seems my cleansers were too harsh for this climate. Our skin seems to change as we get older. You're making me want to go and get a makeover and maybe learn how to 'paint' up a little better! ;)
    Be a sweetie,
    Shelia ;)

  8. I need to get in and get a refresher as well Marty! Thanks for the great tips!

  9. I used Clinique for years. I still use their blush and foaming face wash, it's the best!!! Never use any foundation and rarely use eye makeup. Love Paula's Choice for face creams. Just started using tinted lip gloss......from the drug store!!!

  10. I'm a Mary Kay gal. I love that they will take back any product that you are not happy with and give you your money back or trade for another product. Also, you can schedule free makeovers whenever you want. I'm going to the less is better route too. The cc foundations are fantastic. Thanks for sharing your favorites.

  11. maցnificent put up, very іnformative. І wonder whhy the opposite speciаlіstѕ off this sector don't understand this.
