Kitchen Drawer Organizing - Simple Tips

As you all know when you start any project, one thing leads to another.  I have been doing a makeover of my kitchen, so of course that leads me to scrutinizing every single inch of this space.  (You can see where we are at this point here.)

My kitchen has plenty of drawers - but I don't utilize all that storage too well sometimes. This is just one corner.  I have 5 more drawers on the other side.

Most of the time they look like this.  Just stuff in the drawer so you have to dig around to find the one thing you are looking for.  Now this drawer still needs some dividers, but I did find a couple that worked great for two other drawers.

While out shopping at TJMaxx I found a pair of kitchen dividers that were a little bigger than most.  I thought they might work to organize some of my kitchen gadgets.  This one is for silverware, but I repurposed it to hold these essential kitchen gadgets.  Scoops, can opener, slicer, peelers, pizza cutter, bottle opener, large wisk, salad tongs and misc.  Not perfect, but so much better than everything just floating around in the drawer and getting stirred up every time I want something.

This one is just three large sections.  This works great for my spatulas, potato masher, tongs, ladle and a few other miscellaneous items.  Right behind it are my food shovels and my vegetable brush.  This is so much better.

Now I am on the hunt for something for all those large spoons and turners.  I am going to get this kitchen organized or else. haha.

So how about you, do you have all your stuff organized or were your drawers like mine.  Any tips to help me out?

  1. You have really organized those gadget drawers, Marty. I have several drawers in my kitchen in need of organization. One, in particular, has gotten really out of hand. It takes so much time to find anything that I forget what I was looking for in the first place. The idea of using the metal organizers for the gadgets is a great idea!

  2. Excellent choice of organizer for those larger kitchen utensils! You have really good storage in your all the cabinets and drawers. I have some individual trays that can be hooked together that I have had for probably 35 years. Not pretty but they get the job done...they are country blue which was big back then.

  3. I love organizing too Marty... and yes, dividers are the best, can't live without them! You did a great job.
    Enjoy your weekend.

  4. Great ideas! I won't use any of my few drawers because I had a mouse problem there.

  5. I have organizers in my drawers, also. I just find it's so much easier to locate what you're looking for that way. Of course, if my daughters could manage to put things in their proper places that would make the system foolproof!!

  6. You can make your own dividers from left over wood or I used paint sticks. I cut them to length, put a dab of glue at the ends and made the compartments to the size I wanted. Worked great. I even painted them so that you could not tell they were paint sticks. I used the larger size. but I know that Lowes and HD sell lattice dividers and molding and Michaels sells MDF in small quantities.

  7. You did a great job, Marty. I use dividers too. I keep the cooking utensils that I use everyday in a crock by the stove. My knives are in a knife block that goes in a drawer. I am fortunate to have 2 LARGE drawers that I keep all the miscellaneous stuff in (in dividers too). Have a beautiful week. We leave in the morning for vacation!!

  8. I use those on all my drawers, and add sturdy cardboards on the back to keep them from sliding backwards.

  9. Awesome tips you have here! I'm sure this'll be very helpful for everyone. I think this'll be perfect for my home in Arton. Thanks for sharing!
