We left off on 5/22 with them pouring the deck. I love how much room we will have for entertaining. This had to cure for several days, so no work could be done.
5/26 - We got tile!!! Two guys showed up on Friday before the holiday and in about 2 hours, we had tile. One guy mixed up a bunch of cement and the other one started brushing down the edge of the pool.
Since we had the holiday, nothing was done so we were sitting and waiting again.
5/30 - Here comes the clean-up crew. Boy did this place really need it. We have bits of concrete and debris all over the place and the dirt has been heaped into piles in all kinds of areas too.
This crew got busy busting up all the concrete that was dumped on the dirt from the concrete guys. They also had tons of other debris to clean up.
Remember this - - There was a mess everywhere - -
When they were done, the inside was nice and clean - - -
and so was the surrounding area of the yard. Boy, what a difference. I am so glad to see some of that mess gone. No landscaping, but this looks pretty to me.
I even have a clean patio - Hubby helped me clean all the junk off of it too.
Lots of popups to keep the pool nice and clean.
6/1 Here is the crew to do the Acrylic Lace finish on the decking. This is the coating that makes the concrete cool so you can comfortably walk on it. There were a lot more steps to this than I thought.
One guy is rolling out a huge sheet of plastic. They are going to tape off the entire inside of the pool. Another one is getting ready to cover a hair line crack in the cement.
Pool is lined. Everything is covered under the concrete edging.
The patio and post is taped off -
then they do the top
This has to sit & cure for at least 3 days, then we can do the final steps. Monday or Tuesday we are scheduled for the inside plaster, then the next day acid wash and start filling the pool.
We really, really are almost done.

Oh wow it is looking so good Marty! I love the colors you picked. I would be chomping at he bit at this stage.
ReplyDeleteOh, my goodness Marty! I loved this post! I learned so much - had absolutely no idea what all went into something like this.
ReplyDeleteI would love a pool beyond words - but it makes no sense in Ohio.
Your pool and surrounding area is going to be AMAZING!!!!!
I am so happy and so excited for you both! ♥
Love that finish on the deck. It is all coming together. Beautiful.
ReplyDeleteWow I love that finish on the deck. It is taking longer than I imagined, but only means it will be even more fantastic when they are done! The border looks so pretty- you've really selected a some nice features! Glad they cleaned up for you- I imagine some companies don't do that and leave the homeowner at a loss. I'm cheering for you that you'll be in the pool next week!
ReplyDeleteSo many steps going into this! It is going to be wonderful.
ReplyDeleteIt will be so great when it is finally done. I can envision you practically living out there every day.
ReplyDeleteWhen I was very young I lived in San Jose and we had a pool and I was outside first thing every morning after my daily housework was completed.
The girls and I would spend late morning and early afternoon swimming and lounging until it finally would be too hot then we would take a last dunk in the pool and go back in the house to enjoy the air conditioning. Then once hubby came home he and I would swim again after dinner.
It's looking wonderful! Your going to love it. Hugs,
ReplyDeleteWow - a lot of work is going into that pool! I didn't know it was such a process to get the cool deck, but I am sure you will love it. I will be excited to see it when the water is in and the landscaping is done - it will be gorgeous! You are so good at coordinating colors and textures, and inspire me with design plans for my own house... thank you!
ReplyDeleteThis is fascinating and it is turning out so beautifully Marty, you are going to love that pool!!!
ReplyDeleteOMGoodness, this whole area is going to be gorgeous! I am so happy for you and you will really have a large area to entertain! I know you will thoroughly enjoy this! have a beautiful weekend!!!
ReplyDeleteI love watching this process!! You're right, it is so pretty all cleaned up......the deck is beautiful and love the tile!! It will all be a show stopper when done.....enjoy!!!
ReplyDeleteIt looks great, Marty! I didn't know you could add something to cool concrete. Now your landscaping endeavor must not look as daunting with so much of the space taken up by the pool.
ReplyDeleteBrenda
how fun watching this progress... I am sure you feel like it is going so slow right now, but soon you will have a pool to dip into by Summer!
ReplyDeleteAlmost there, Marty, and it will be so pretty! BTW, if you are planning on grass, I highly recommend the new artificial turf...it looks amazingly real, but no watering or mowing!
ReplyDeleteOh I am sure that you are way too anxious to dip your toes in that pool for the very first time. Looks like it won't be long!
ReplyDeleteWhat a pretty pool. You are going to be spending lots of time out there! Don't forget your sunscreen!! :) enjoy!
ReplyDeleteEverything but water ! How exciting. Tick tick tick tick. Thanks for sharing the process with us.
ReplyDeleteOh Marty, I know how excited you are. It is going to be so beautiful once they have it finished, your almost there. Next week you will be swimming everyday. I love the colors you picked out for the tile, etc.
ReplyDeleteCan hardly wait to see everything done.
Mary
I do completely understand this process that you photographed and described so well! And I'm sure you realize, even though you want it finished NOW, just how critical all that waiting for curing is. It will ensure the longevity of that beautiful texturizing of the cement. It's gorgeous. And I also appreciate the beauty of just having the worksite project cleaned up, even without the landscaping. So close to the finish line now!
ReplyDeleteThe pool project is almost complete! I didn't know that something could be added to make the concrete cooler to walk on. Excellent idea, particularly in your part of the country. The fellas who did all the work are true craftsmen. I bet you can't wait to get in the water.
ReplyDeleteIt's beautiful. Those men worked so hard. "Curing time" on any project is painful...we just want to get on with it. Soon, very soon:-)
ReplyDeleteDee
So pretty! You will be in and splashing around before you know it and loving it! I really enjoyed the details on this post. Our concrete around the pool is plain and hot! We have a few hairline cracks now too with age. Your post was very informative and gave me some wonderful ideas. The only finishes I have seen are more of a stamped concrete which look more brickish if you will and have a very shiny coating on the top and I'm not really crazy about those. I love, love, love, the look of yours. Thanks so much for sharing!
ReplyDeleteIt won't be long!! Looking wonderful :)

Marty, what a process and labor intensive. I can't wait to see it finished! You will enjoy so much time in this space with family and friends!
