The Buffet Is On The Move Again

If you have been following along, then you know that my buffet server has been used for everything you could possibly imagine other than a buffet.  This piece of furniture has been in nearly every room of my house at one time or the other.  I found this piece at a consignment store about 20 years ago and had it in the dining room of my old house.  Perfect.  Then when we sold that house 12 years ago it began life as the "whatever" piece.  It was used for whatever I needed at the moment.

Remember I showed you that it was used as my desk in the last house.  It actually worked really well as a desk.  Plenty of room to store all my desk needs and a really nice big work surface.  I also had tons of fun decorating it, plus I had the advantage of being able to look out a window.

When we moved into this house and I was struggling so hard to figure out how to arrange the family room, it was used for the tv.  Then I finally figured out a better arrangement and it was moved out of the room along with several other pieces of furniture.

That's when it was moved to the guest bedroom to serve as a dresser in there.  Then I finally found a dresser that I liked at a used furniture store, so it got moved again.

Now it's found a home in the upstairs landing area.  Not necessarily where it should be, but since this has become the "whatever" piece it works.

The landing is really quite big, so it fits nicely and I always appreciate having the extra storage.

So I guess for now it has found home.

Do you have a "Whatever" piece in your home?

Be sure to get all of your projects lined up for Inspire Me Tuesday.  Party goes live Monday afternoon at 3 PM CMT.  Can't wait to see you there.

  1. HI Marty I really enjoy the buffet journey. It's funny what grabs our attention.Have a great week. I am headed to Haven. laura

  2. I have always thought it was a pretty little piece. And it has so many uses for you. Marty, you home is so pretty. I just couldn't imagine why you would leave you previous place. It was so beautiful. But I totally agree with moving closer to family. Isn't that the very reason we fuss over our homes? For family and friends to gather and enjoy each others company. Our homes are to be enjoyed. You sure know how to make a house a home. Hugs to you Marty

  3. I think it is fun Marty to move pieces around in rooms. Gives a whole new look to a room and does not cost anything to do. Love it where you have it now. Looks great.

  4. Marty, yes we do. We hang on because it has history. I have a hutch and buffet from the 1960's. It holds so much but no longer matches anything.
Now that you have moved so much around and need more pool time, I wondered why the big bookcase ended up upstairs in your office. I think that's what throws us off. Either way, looking good.

  5. What a completely versatile piece. I love all the different ways you have used it and where it is now. :)

  6. It's funny how moving into a new house can spur on what seems a perpetual moving and rearranging of furniture! I'm right there with you! I love the buffet in it's new spot. Thanks for sharing. Happy Weekend. Toodles, Kathryn @TheDedicatedHouse

  7. It always looks good no matter there you place it.

  8. What a useful and decorative piece of furniture! I have a reputation for moving the furniture around, though possibilities rather limited these days.
    All the best.

  9. The buffet has looked good wherever you've had it. I love the decorations on it now -- the horse figurine, the riding hat and the book with the horse on it are a very clever combination. You do an amazing job at creating fresh and interesting décor with a combination of vintage and newer items. Thanks for sharing.

  10. I love pieces that are so versatile that they will go everywhere. I'm glad it found a good home.

  11. I loved reading about the travelling buffet.:) Although it fit well in every room you placed it in, I really like the way it looks in your upstairs hall and the pieces around it and displayed on it are perfect.

  12. I just love multi-functioning pieces.

It looks great where it lives now - well done, my friend.

SO sorry I have been MIA - nice to be back - I have sooooo much catching up to do! Hugs! ♥

  13. It's a great piece, Marty, and has looked good in each of its many locations. We have several pieces of furniture that have served us well in whatever situation we placed them in.
