A Timely Makeover - Me

I try to update my makeup and add a few new items to my wardrobe every year on my birthday.  This year has had so many changes - wow - We moved to a new home closer to family, tons of remodeling and a fabulous new pool in the backyard ~~~~Plus we also have two new grands, so life is fleeting by at a rapid pace. With all these changes, I really need a little sprucing up too.

I am a little late this year - my birthday was actually in August.   I did get a perm and haircut, so that was new, but the makeup didn't happen until the other day.  I love it when someone with amazing skills can apply makeup to make you look a thousand times better than reality.  haha.

I have learned when I find something that is flattering to buy it in multiples.  I have this same blouse in black and I wear it all the time.  So when they went on sale, I picked up the purple, polkadot and red ones to add to my wardrobe.  I am always needing new tops.

I recently bought a new pair of black leggings, I think these are staples for all year.  While I was shopping the sales racks, I couldn't resist this pair of white slacks marked down to $19.99 and this really fun sequin sweater that was marked down to $27.50.  The slacks will be fabulous all year and that sweater will be perfect for the Holiday Season.

Nothing new on the makeup front.  My tried and true basic items still work for me.  I am definitely not a makeup snob.  Whatever works is what I use since I don't use a lot of makeup.  This is all I use every day.

My lips and skin kind of have a blue undertone, so anything with a peach tint to it makes my face come to life.

The older I get and the more wrinkles, I find any kind of foundation is too much for me.  I love my tinted moisturizer.  Adds a little brightness to my skin and doesn't look heavy.

I think eyes are one of the most important features on a person, so I like to try and make mine stand out.  Some good black mascara and a brown eyeliner bring my eyes out.  The greatest thing I found a while back is this wonderful Gimme Brow.  This stuff is amazing.  It fills in the brow naturally without looking like you drew lines on your face.

The best part was getting a new makeup tutorial.  I love it when a real artist does her magic and it is even better if they show you how to do your own makeup.  Keeping eyeliner just on the top lid and the corner of the bottom lid opens up my eyes.  Great trick I didn't know about.  The new perm and haircut make my days so much easier too.  Just run a comb through it and go.  My haircolor is a little lighter too so that looks fresher.

When I got home I had to take a selfie.  Time for a new picture on my sidebar.  The previous one was 3 years old.  You can sure tell from my tan that I have been enjoying the new pool. (Do you know how hard a selfie is to do - mine were so bad I got a case of the giggles.  Hard to keep a straight face.)

You guys, if you take a selfie in a place with really bright light, it just washes out all of your wrinkles.  It's magic.

This was three years ago.  I've lost 15 lbs, but I have a few more wrinkles.  Oh well, I think that just comes with the territory.

So how about you, do you try to do a little makeover each year?

  1. I think you look younger now than three years ago by the picture. I have been through a lot too and I really need a makeover. I think I will wait for a few months. We have an event coming up that is going to be very stressful at the end of October. If that goes well than I may just do a makeover.

  2. I noticed your beautiful new sidebar photo the other day. Looking good! Great shopping, too. I do the same thing when I find comfortable shoes. I buy them in different colors. Recently I even bought another pair of the same sandals (on sale) so I'll have them when my current favorites start to look worn.

  3. Marty, you look fabulous. the new hair color seems a bit warmer in tone and really warms up your face, I like it a lot.

  4. You look beautiful. The decorating, the wardrobe are so helpful to us out here. Thank you for sharing with us.

  5. Lookin' good Marty!! I like your thinking about treating yourself around your birthday.

  6. I've taken to watching some of the You Tubers "beauty" ladies, and have learned some useful tricks from them on makeup application. I never wore a lot of makeup, but now I focus on my eyes. I have droopy lids, and knowing how to apply a little shadow can really help with that. You look wonderful!!

  7. I think you look younger now than you did three years ago. I think it's interesting what you say about having blue undertones in your skin and peach making your face come to life. I have blue undertones as well, but find peach looks "off" on me. Pink(s) is what makes me come to life.

  8. I read all your posts but don't normally post myself. Just had to say, you look beautiful! You're aging in reverse and with your attitude you'll be forever young.

  9. You look great! I bet it's because you're happy inside. Being back close to family sure brings a smile to your face. It does mine! I use BB cream too. It was new to me and recommended by another blogger. (See we do pay attention)😀Happy belated birthday.

  10. You're beautiful Marty! I love that tradition of taking care of yourself every year around your birthday. You deserve it! Did any of your grands get your dimples?

  11. What a great idea to update our looks on our birthdays. I'm adopting that idea! You look lovely, and I really like your perm!

  12. Marty, you are such a lovely lady...inside and out!

  13. Marty, you look fabulous! What a nice idea for a birthday update!

  14. What a great post! Thank you for showing the products you use. I love your selfie! -Marci @ Stone Cottage Adventures

  15. Happy (belated, very) birthday, dear lady. Love your new blog pic - you are one pretty gal.

  16. I love your new look! ....and all your new clothes! You look great.

  17. I love your choices in clothing, especially the gold sparkly top. I never seem to have anything for a special occasion.

I've always thought you are such a naturally pretty lady---those dimples, and big smile! Your hair is great. I've used the Gimme Brow, but I need more filling in. I over-tweezed my brows terribly in the '90's.

Keep it up, Marty. Change is good!

    Jane x

  18. Love your new clothes!! The sweater is so much fun!!
