Fabric For My Thrifty Louis Chair Makeover

Deciding on what fabric to use in my chair makeover has been a bit challenging.    Remember this is the chair I've had for a few years that I found at Hotel Liquidators for $59.  It is a great chair with fabulous carving and style, it's just the fabric I want to change and also paint the wood frame.  That brings up a whole 'nother can of worms too.

You might recall my inspiration board for this room.  I want this chair to be an off white to go with the white sofa I have

I still think something in a white pattern is what I am looking for, but then I got this wonderful gray chair for Christmas.  I love how the painted frame on this piece adds some interest to the room, especially since I want to paint the tv console too.  I really like the weathered finish on this chair.

This is a fabulous makeover inspiration chair that I found.  I also like that this one has a painted frame too.

I tried several different fabric samples for this chair, and it was hard to find something that had some texture or pattern that would go with the sofa and not clash.  Whites are so tricky.  Then I tried a remnant piece of fabric I had and I think it is perfect. It is a small pattern that is greige.  Depending how you look at it, it is either a soft beige or gray.  It looks perfect with the sofa.

The two fabrics play nice together.

This shows the white fabric draped on the back of the chair.  I think the fabric is great, now to decide about the wood frame.  Paint it like the gray chair or refinish the wood?

What do you think?  I need to figure that out so I can get this chair done.  I just really need to paint that console and then I think I will be able to figure the rest out.

Be sure to get all of your projects lined up for Inspire Me Tuesday.  Party goes live Monday afternoon at 3 PM CMT.  Can't wait to see you there.

  1. I love the fabric...you have used it before, right? Anyway, I am in love with chippy chalk paint. I saw how a lady was making brand new furniture and doors look old/distressed with the chippy chalk paint. Maybe you could try something like that in a shade darker (or lighter) than your new chair? But then, staining the wood on the chair in a weathered gray/driftwood color might look great also! Oh my, I can't wait to see how this turns out. As I look at all the projects you have done in your home, I am so inspired for my new home...if it ever gets built! Cheers!

  5. Wait until you decide the color of the console. You have one painted chair in the gray/blue tone. The chair you got for Christmas is gray. The chair in question could be painted pearl/gray or white. To add another thought, what color do you plan for the end table? ISN'T IT NICE TO BE A WOMAN AND MASTER OF THE PAINT. What ever you decide have fun.

  6. I think paint the chair. Also, those really cool lightening rods that stand in the corner of your dining room..have you thought to bring them in your family /tv room area? I think they would be great with the horse pic.

  7. LOVE that fabric, Marty. It is perfect for the chair. I would paint it rather than refinish it, I think. Good luck- no matter what you decide it will be perfect! xo Diana
