Room Reveal - I Am Calling This DONE FOR NOW

I have stressed and changed this room more than I have ever changed any room in history, and there are still tons of things I would like to do, but for now, I am calling it done.  Time to go on to other projects around the house and outside.  I really want to do some landscaping in the back by the pool and move a few things around on the patio, so time to turn my attention outside.

In the meantime, I have to show you what I found to use as a TV console.  If you have been following along then you know that I painted the black console table we had white and it really didn't work in this room.  (You can see that post here).  Then while my daughter and I were at Home Goods, I found this really gorgeous cabinet.  It just seemed perfect, so it came home with me.

I love the gray and brown worn finish on this piece, and the mirrored doors are so pretty.  It bounces light all around the room which is always a welcome thing.

This is with the black console (I was testing out fabric for the chair)

This is with the console painted white.

I decided not to reupholster the french chair, just to paint the frame.  I think it looks so much better and I really like the camel colored upholstery with the rest of the room.

The finish turned out like a medium walnut.  It looks really pretty.

All in all I like the direction things are going in here, so it is good for now.

Still trying to decide if I want the french chair next to the sofa or on the right side of the TV console, but at any rate, I am calling this done for now.  The rest will have to come this fall.

So what do you think?

  3. OMG I love the new TV console! I also like the way the mirror reflects light around the room, making it so bright and cheery. I haven't been to Home Goods in a long time...maybe I should!

  6. Looks really good Marty. Sometimes we have to step back and live with it awhile and decide what will go. But I am sure your will make the right choice. I like it.

  7. Marty -- BRAVO! Really like your choices and that cabinet REALLY MAKES the whole room! Great find AND also has storage which is always a blessing! Can't wait to see what you got cookin for the rest of the place - particularly outside!

  8. It all looks great- that new cabinet fits in very nicely! I often get to where I can't think of anything else to do with a project so I leave it be for a while but in the back of my head I feel it's not just right yet. Then one day something comes along and you realize that's it!! I'd love to get outside and do something- a fresh bit of snow has fallen again.... drat!

  9. Hi, Marty! Have been following your Blog wayback before you moved to this new house... a really lovely home. For what my opinion is worth as a spectator I'd like to make this observation: The chair next to the couch (by the TV) seems squashed in the corner too much. Take it out. The wood finish on the side chairs make the new TV cabinet look out of synch with your other woods in the room. The heavy upholstery and color on the chairs is too heavy for the new piece. Frames around TV need a nice chunky matting (at least 2-inches wide- or 3) and more substantial frames because of wall size. Divide them up and put them in straight line up the wall further away from TV and put an even larger frame and matting of one of your prints over top of TV to create cohesion but keep prints a couple feet away from TV to balavce this large wall and keep the eye on the TV and not the prints which are too close to screen and under-sized in scale for wall. Keep chairs away from cabinet wall altogather. Let it be a focal point all by itself. Keep the chairs on the wall over by the door maybe and draw them over to living room area as needed for company. A tallish floor potted plant from Home Goods would look nice on the right side of cabinet to bringin in interest and greenery perhaps. Gosh, somebody stop me! Every thing you do, Marty, is very tasteful and uncomplicated. Something we can ALL copy especially your efforts to keep a high style, with a low budget. I've admired your taste for some time. Keep up the good designs...and just chuck this comment-I'll understand, ha,ha!

  12. I really like the mirrored cabinet that you found. I also like that you are open enough to show us your "mistakes". I've been thinking about painting a black bookshelf that sits under my tv white. I'm trying to lighten the room it's in. After seeing your white table under the tv, I realize that is not a good plan for me. Thanks for sharing.

  14. It's looking really classy. I can completely understand that changing room and shifting stuff is really a tough job to do. Especially when you have to shift big tables and chairs, it becomes messy too. Even I got frustrated with all these things. But thanks to residential cleaning services nj to help me out from all this mess. They have done such a fabulous job, I must say.

  15. It looks good! I like the new cabinet much better; it plays off the round metal and glass coffee table well. I hear you on getting outside ~ on the docket for today as I need to plant one rose bush in a pot. It arrived yesterday via the big brown truck. :) Happy gardening!!!

  16. This works! I like the touch of glam which is a nice contrast with the more rustic elements in the room.

  17. HI Marty,
Love the mirrored cabinet,it is perfect as the black was just too much black with the tv being black too, and the white was sorta washed out....
I love the new arrangement and I like the darker french chair by the sofa the best....just
looks more eye appealing and adds some contrast in that area. Looks great to me.
    Blessings, Nellie

  18. Love the TV cabinet. It pulls everything together nicely. I do agree with Nonni that the prints around the TV aren't working well.
