Show Us Your Life - Bathrooms

Our home is 6 years old and definitely a builder basic, so I have tried to "up-grade" the basic cabinets and fixtures with the camouflage of accessories.

You enter the master bath through a large doorway in the bedroom.

First thing was to get rid of the "hollywood" lights and add new fixtures.  I found these on sale for $19.99 each, only catch is they were painted to look like a leopard stripe.  Brand new and so ugly.  I bought them because the style was good,  the shades were really pretty and they were well made and good quality, just ugly.  (Wonder what in the world the mfg. was thinking anyway.)   Then I painted them Oil Rubbed Bronze and they were fabulous.

I added the accordion mirror so I could see up close to do my makeup.  It has a magnifying mirror that I find I use more and more.  (Just like me the eyes are getting old)

As you enter the bathroom from the bedroom, you see the double sinks.  This is not a very large bathroom, so I chose to leave the one big mirror since it gives the room a much more spacious appearance..  On the to-do list is to frame it.  The angled door you see goes into the water closet and the door on the left goes into a large walk-in closet.

We have the standard double sinks, tub and shower.

No jets, but it is a nice soaker tub and the shower is large enough to be really comfortable.

We get wonderful natural light from the big window.  I love a bright bathroom and this one is always filled with sunshine.

I didn't want to take up a lot of counter space, but a small vignette is reflected in the mirror and gives the appearance of being bigger than it really is.  I think it helps to make the space look a little more "grand".

The rest of the counter accessories were chosen for their "frenchy" appearance, but are all useful and necessary every day items.  I coordinated the towels with the camel and black color scheme of the room.

The water closet has a couple of accessories to give it some interest also.

This is an antique medicine cabinet that I've had for years.  It holds extra rolls of toilet paper, air freshener and wipes.

The painting carries out the colors of the bedroom.

Very workable space and a bright and cheery one to bath and get dressed in.

The hall bath is painted a soft camel color also.  I made a shower curtain out of a dramatic tropical print outdoor fabric and hung it from the ceiling for extra drama.  It is tied back and a tall liner is on a second rod behind it.  I replaced the flat builder mirror with one I found at Ross.  The light fixture was replaced with another one in Oil Rubbed Bronze.  (Another great find on sale for $19.99)

I found a fabulous nylon rug that has the look of sisal.  I thought it was perfect for my tropical theme.

A small bathroom, but also very functional and quite comfortable.  All of the accessories are done in ORB and the paintings have a tropical theme to tie into the curtain.

Two very builder basic bathrooms, but both work and a few changes in accessories gave them a more updated look.

  1. Very pretty bathrooms Marty! Have a great weekend xox

  2. These are great! I need this inspiration, one of these days I must take on our crazy pink bathrooms! Thanks for sharing this great post Marty!

    XO, Aimee

  3. Very pretty bathroom, Marty! I love the color you chose to accent!
When I lived in England we would say WC!

  4. Your bathrooms are great-you have made some very stylish upgrades! I also like the colours you chose.

Our house is old and we don't have an ensuite. Our kids have their own bathroom but I wish we had an ensuite after seeing this!

Best wishes for a lovely weekend,
    Natasha in Oz

  5. Your flower arrangement is so pretty! I think I need something like that in my bathroom - we are pretty much "accessorie-free" right now.

  6. Your bathroom is gorgeous and so inviting. I'd stay in the tub for a long time! xo Jenny

  7. I just decided that your bathroom is my favorite room in your house. Since I've stalked your whole house over the years, I feel safe in saying that. There's something just plain pretty about it.

  8. hi Marty, just popping in to say Hi, your bathroom is so nice and bright! Mine is in need of a new floor, which hubby has been going to do for months!! I dont understand what the hold up is.. other then that it is probably not a task he is looking forward too. He will have to pull the clawfoot tub out and that baby is HEAVY!
    have a great weekend!

  9. Marty,
Your bathrooms are so nice. I love your accessories, color choices, etc. Your antique medicine cabinet is lovely. You do such a fabulous job decorating. Everything is fabulous!

  10. Marty, your Master bath is gorgeous!! I love the vignette on your sinks. I wish my tub had that pretty shelf over the tub. I suppose I could add one. My hubby has an aversion to shelves though for some reason.

  11. Both washrooms are great! I especially love the shower curtain in the hall washroom, and the antique medicine cabinet in the master!

  12. Beautiful bathrooms Marty; I have that same mirror in my entry hallway. I got it at the East Coast Ross aka Marshalls!

  13. I love how you've accessorized your bathrooms, Marty! I have a long mirror like yours in our bathroom, too {really, really long}. I'd love to frame it out, but I think the cost would make me faint. I am going to frame out the one in the main bathroom though. I have those round bulb light fixtures in our bathroom currently and hope to change them out at some point. I love the fixtures you found. We have no window in our bathroom so the lights and the mirror are a plus to give us lots of light in there.

  14. Marty,
Lovely Master Bathroom! I L O V E all the natural light!!! Amazing hhow accessories can take a bath from bland to glam! Love the vignette between the two sinks!!!

  15. They are both pretty. if you don't mind me asking - where did you get your accordion mirror? I bought a magnifying mirror at Tues. Morn. (?) several years ago and ended up sending to GW. Just poor quality I guess.

  16. Your bathrooms are very pretty, Marty. You've accessorized them beautifully.

  17. Hey sometimes basic is best. Then you don't have to worry about your bathroom being dated. You can update it with current accessories and colors (as you have done). I think they look great! Your master bathroom has the same layout as a friend of mines. I love a bright and sunny bathroom too!

  18. Marty, sus baños son muy lindos, a decir verdad me fascina toda su casa y esos colores que hacen un ambiente muy familiar. Saludos desde Costa Rica.

  19. Marty, thank you for your precious comment you left about my dining room. Coming from someone who decorates so well, that's a real compliment! Magical is a good word for it, especially at sunset!!
Your bathrooms are elegant and serene. I'd love to take a long bath in your pretty tub! I like the vignette you have on the vanity, too. :)

  20. You know, I think our new master bath will be alot like yours! Soaker tub, shower stall, WC seperated etc. I hope I can make ours as pretty as yours! I think I told you that I ahve the exact same monkey picture as in your hall bath! Wish you lived closer: I would hire you to make me a long curtain that hangs from the ceiling, I love that look!!! XO, Pinky

  21. You've done such a great job on your bathrooms, Marty! I love all of your rug choices!
What a deal for the light fixtures, and such an easy fix with a can of ORB!

LOVE, love, love, the antique medicine cabinet in your water closet! It is really a special piece!

    Have a fantastic weekend!

  22. Your bathrooms are very cozy and warm! I love the colors and you did a wonderful job on the light fixtures! Great job all over! And I just love the painting, also!
