At the beginning of the year, this is what the seating area looked like. The dreaded and outdated plaid sofa and the drapery panels just tied back and sheered on a rod. I had one clock and a painting on the wall. (Love that painting, but this room needed something else.)
So how many times have you changed a room this year? I think this will stay this way for a while, but you never know.

Marty,
ReplyDeleteThis is so funny. My post today is about how much I change things. Do you think we could start a support group? Love your room any way you have it!
I seem to change my rooms several times a year... each time it seems a slightly different arrangement gives it a whole new lease of life... during the summer, I arrange the seating so as to give a clear view of the garden.. then in the winter we put the couch in front of the windows and place all around cosily and it seems to feel completly different... I like all the arrangments you had, even the first one, as I have a much smaller version of that picture in my bedroom..it must be by a famous artist then if you had the big version, I cannot see any name on mine... anyway, whichever way you do your room, it looks stunning always... thank you for sharing, and also what you did to the curtains looked much more up to date, or en trend as they like to say! hugs from across the pond.janzi
ReplyDeleteMarty you are so cute. I love how we are so hard on ourselves and are our own worse critics. I thought all of the pics you featured showed a very pretty and classic room. But, since you showed the befores and afters, I gotta admit the final one is my fave too. :) It looks very warm and inviting. I love the wicker chair in there too. Love you. xxoo
ReplyDeleteYou are a mover and a shaker, that is for sure. I only wish I had your energy to do all that you do every day. My favorite is your final result, but I know sometime down the road you will make more changes and with each change it will get better and better, xo Kathysue
ReplyDeleteHi Marty! Your family room is beautiful in every stage but I think I like this new one the best. What a difference adding the trim and letting your drapes hang straight make! Love your new recliner, doesn't even look like one. I need you to come help me with my living room! :)
ReplyDeleteBe a sweetie,
Shelia ;)
Oh goodnes lovely lady..looks like you and me don't stop!! I love it when we exchange things with our kids and we've done it all year with our daughter Alexandra and now we got a present from her too!. I love the changes you did. The trim and the drapes straight is perfect and more elegant, to me. I love the leather chairs together and the new lamps. The room looks awesome! Big hugs,
ReplyDeleteFABBY
Marty,
ReplyDeleteI adore ALL of your changes...but the smaller sofa is perfect for this room!!! Yes, I move furniture around when things seem off~balance. My Art Studio is the room that I changed MOST this year!!! Now that the excess furniture has been sold I can make some detailed changes...which I am in the process of doing NOW!!! Keep the inspirations coming this way, dear friend, I can use all the help I can get!!!
Fondly,
Pat
Always fun to look back. I was looking back and some old pics of my rooms, too and was saying to myself what was I thinking. Your living room is beautiful now.
ReplyDeleteMarty- What a very different look from start to finish. I didn't realize how very much you had changed it over. I think it went from feeling darkish and kind of formal to light, bright and very welcoming. That sofa is PERFECT. xo Diana
ReplyDeleteIf I'm not satisfied with the room I keep changing but if I am satisfied I don't change it that often. Your room has a very light and bright feeling now.
ReplyDeleteMarty I love the addition of the wicker chair! Your room looks beautiful!
ReplyDeleteI love the last pic, too, Marty! The wicker chair seems to be the right scale and I love the smaller sofa! It all looks comfy, cozy and warm and inviting!!
ReplyDeleteYou certainly are a mover and a shaker!! Love all the looks Marty.
ReplyDeleteLove all the different looks . Your home is lovely ! Have a good day !
ReplyDeleteIt was so much fun to see the evolution of your lovely living room! I'm one to take my time and assess each change... are we really ever done? I see you are going very neutral... so am I! You have such a graceful style!
ReplyDeleteYou've done a wonderful job! The room looks beautiful! It looks fresh and lovely! A pretty room is nice, but it also looks cozy and comfortable and that is most important of all. A room people want to sit and relax in.
ReplyDeleteI cannot believe that there is someone who changes their room as much as I do!
ReplyDeleteI do love your changes....the room seems much more updated in it's current state. I think the curtain treatment has made a huge difference, even though it probably didn't seem like that big a deal, compared to some of your other changes.
All in all, a lovely room!
Now you know it isn't going to stay that way!! You enjoy changing it too much.....lets see....Yep, I changed a few things this year!!! Boy, did I ever!
ReplyDeleteI love the new look of the room...our rooms seem to evolve over time...better and better with each change...the changes just keeps things fresh and just makes us happy!!!....You did a great job as usual!!
ReplyDeleteLooks lovely, but soon you will have to add Holiday decor...it's a never ending battle...but a lot of fun right?
ReplyDeleteWow, what a difference. The old was lovely and cosy but this is so different...restful and relaxing! I love it!! Joan
ReplyDeleteMarty, all your changes are fabulous! Your living room was beautiful then and it is gorgeous now!
ReplyDeleteThe two biggest difference are changing out the plaid couch and updating the draperies. It is as if the entire space received a face lift! :)
ReplyDeleteIt looks fantastic. so warm, cozy and inviting.
Marty, do my eyes deceive me or did you change your dining table chairs too?
ReplyDeleteI don't tend to change much because I don't have extra leather chairs or groovy furniture stashed somewhere else in my home, haha. I DO change the little 7th layer things for seasonal though, but big changes like lamps chairs and sofas are not often changed around here.
I do love your final room - I kept looking back and forth and back and forth and what you have managed makes the room so much larger looking and so much brighter - well done, lady!
Yes, I changed out the chairs with the dining room. Very observant.
DeleteHi Marty! I love the changes you have made. It really looks bright and fresh and it reflects you a whole lot more.
ReplyDeleteOh Marty, anything you touch is always fabulous!
ReplyDeletePaula
I love the progression photos. It's great to be able to look back on all of the changes! Your room always looks lovely!
ReplyDeleteYou amaze me! It's hard to believe you've made all those changes over the course of this year--but things look so nice! You really know how to make a house a home. :)
ReplyDeleteWow Marty - I've watched you over the months making all these wonderful changes to your room, but didn't realize how drastic it was! I'm with you - I love the latest look the best!
ReplyDeleteNone of the changes seemed huge but they all made huge differences. Your room looks so bright and airy and inviting.
ReplyDeleteWow--you are so creative, Marty--so many pretty changes to your family room. It makes a big difference to have the sofa be the right size for the space. We used to have a large one, and recently got a smaller one, and the entire room seems lighter and just completely better all around!
ReplyDeleteI think the room looked so pretty in every picture. you just have a way of making a room look so classic - it's timeless. I do love the current look though. I tend to change things frequently also. When we were first married, my husband told people he always had to look behind him before he sat down, because I was always moving the chairs! laurie
ReplyDeleteMarty, I love seeing your changes. Rearranging a room can make it feel so new without buying anything.
ReplyDeleteMy very favorite of your room is the texture your added with the wicker chair and most of all......the splashes of color on the sofa. Stunning!
Hi Marty! The changes look wonderful. Your home has always been beautiful and I especially love the new look. Thanks for sharing it at the Open House party.
ReplyDeleteno matter what you do it looks beautiful! Thank you for joining in the fun at the Thursday Favorite Things hop. Happy Monday wishes xo P.S. sorry I'm so late visiting :-)
ReplyDeleteThe final look is fantastic, Marty. Love the contrast of the materials for the seating - the lightness of the drapes! Beautifully done! It is fun to look over the posts to see all the changes! I appreciate you sharing with Home and Garden Thursday,
ReplyDeleteKathy
I love the final result! I laughed at your "musical furniture" among family members. We did that with mattresses at one point when we got a new mattress and traded my parents our old queen for their old full size for the guest room. :) Whatever works, right?! Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteMarty, I loved seeing how your room has evolved. It's amazing what a little tweaking here and there can do! The drapes hung straight and the mixing up of furniture totally changed the feel of the room and I hope you're enjoying this pretty outcome!
ReplyDeleteMarty! I loved watching your living room transform! And the last picture is definitely the best! Great job. :)
